About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical-drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pick-up game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area), and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer, and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

This is a beautiful, completely updated two story home. There were only two of us, but this home can accommodate up to 6 people. The early morning and late afternoon wildlife viewing, from the second story porch, was both relaxing and entertaining - wild turkeys, squirrels, woodpeckers, Steller jays and fox. If you could provide, or even advise guests to bring their own laundry detergent, coffee pods and ice for first day, that would be the only improvement I can think of. Enjoyed our visit very much and highly recommend!!

My family and I had an enjoyable stay in Cabin 12R. We liked the location within Wawona- on a hill with space from neighboring cabins. We also liked being inside Yosemite Park boundaries. It is about an hour drive to Yosemite Valley, so plan accordingly. Biking around the valley was a lot of fun and the way to go in our opinion. Spending half a day in Mariposa Grove hiking is a great option too. There are VERY few dining options near the cabin in Wawona so plan to purchase all of your food for all meals and snacks in Oakhurst. There are a couple stores in Wawona, but they mostly carry the basics. We’d recommend this cabin when traveling to Yosemite.

Overall the property was nice and well maintained. Here are my thoughts on our stay in no particular order: - I knew we were staying 40 mins from the valley floor. I thought it was fine but looking back I wish we were closer. - The place has a hot tub, that I don't think was listed but I had read in another review. That was a bonus when we confirmed there was one for us to use. - The place wasn't ready for us when we arrived at 4:00. However the front desk was very nice and provided us ice for our groceries. - The house is located at the end of a street so no thru traffic and made it feel a little bit more secluded even with the other houses nearby. The neighborhood was so quiet it was completely peaceful. - All basic cooking supplies were included. - The house sleeps six but we only had enough towels for 4. You can get a towel exchange but that requires going to the check in office to make the swap. The house does come with a washer and dryer however, there is no starter pack. - We had only 1/2 a used paper towel roll available to us. Again, I'm sure we could have gone down to the check in office to get more but we were only staying a couple of nights. - Grill was basically new and worked great. - The upstairs shower door is a barn door. There are gaps so you can still see in/out. - The pictures are accurate to the place. - I think other reviewers mentioned this but yes, their pillows are terrible. If you're picky be prepared.

This was a great house located within Yosemite National Park. There are some great trails close and it is about an hour drive to the valley when you want to spend the day there. There are a couple of local groceries with limited hours, but it's best to get most of your supplies before you arrive. The house was stocked with everything you need to cook and also has a regular and Keurig coffeemaker.

This is a beautiful place to stay while visiting Yosemite. While it is in a small community of houses, it was quite private. The home has been recently renovated and it is modern and tasteful. The kitchen was very well stocked with appliances, dishes and utensils (not always the case with rental units). Only thing missing was sugar and salt, so bring your own. It was very well maintained and very clean. The hot tub was a pleasure. The only downside was that the mattress in the master bedroom was extremely firm. I like a firm mattress but this was uncomfortable. But that was the only downside to a wonderful place.

The house was advertized with washer/dryer but the dryer did not work and we were not notified. Also, the beds were rocks and the pillows were very uncomfortable.
