The property is on the main road down to Charlestown Beach but there is SO much property, there is no issue! There is a ton of room in the house as there what’s considered the main area and there’s almost an in law type space so you get a second dining and living room. We really only used the living room space when 6 of us wanted to watch two different things at night. You can tell that they are working through updating the property as there were pending completion on a few projects (new master bathroom was waiting on glass for the shower, wainscoting type wall in the second bathroom that appeared new but unpainted, etc.). Overall, the house gave us everything we needed, the location was great and in biking distance to the beach, etc. The hosts (or hosts family) are in a second home on the large property and they were so friendly, gave us some of their beautiful vegetables and let the kids say hi to their sweet dogs! Completely satisfied with our stay.
Wonderful week as advertised! Quintessential beach rental. Layout really worked for our family and dog friendly! Would stay again.
The house was perfect for us. Wish we could have stayed longer!
Older interior with mishmash furnishings with 3 bedrooms but one in middle of the house. Listing did not specify to bring own linens and towels.
The location of the house is great and convenient to the beach. I also found the owner very easy to communicate with and she promptly answered all my questions in advance of the rental. Overall the house itself is only okay. It was sufficient for our stay but we wouldn’t rent this one again. Everything is a little dingy and beat up and the house doesn’t seem like it’s had a lot of upkeep. It’s unfortunate because it’s spacious and has potential. The layout is a little strange in that it’s set up to be split into two separate properties if desired. One of the bedrooms listed is the only pass through to the third bedroom and second living space without walking outside. It’s not a convenient place to have a bedroom - especially with putting kids to bed early but we made it work. We’ve rented at Charlestown for years and have had much nicer houses for the same price point so we would look elsewhere in future years.
Good location, plenty of room
As someone who has been visiting Charlestown for over a decade, I was so happy to find this beautiful home available in the same neighborhood as my family-friends. It is a gorgeous and spacious layout. We were all very comfortable. The kitchen’s AC cools down half of the house without a problem! There were fans available in every room. The driveway is convenient and accommodating. We had about 4 cars and there was plenty of room! The owner requires a tidy clean up before the end of the stay, but if you are a decent guest that shouldn’t be a problem! I would definitely recommend.
This is a nice property very close to Charlestown Beach and a new Clam Shack with a restaurant, ice cream shop, deli and bakery at the other end of the road. The wrap around deck is great, with a lovely sitting area with chairs, a corner table, two loungers and a rug. There are two kitchens and dining areas, one king bedroom with a sliding door (no A/C), one queen with a sliding door (and A/C) and one bedroom in the middle of what appears to be two parts of the home. That bedroom is a pass-through with a twin and a queen bed. There are A/C's in two rooms, the only two with windows that will accommodate A/C's. If both are on, most of the house will be cool. I did not venture to the basement so can't comment on the W/D or the condition of the basement. The only negative is that the property could use a refresh in some areas - in some cases just paint and in others more of an overhaul (one of the bathrooms and parts of the kitchen). Overall a nice beach house in a great location.
House worked for us, good location, nice deck and yard and we would still go back but not a first or second choice. It is tired and needs attention. Only real objection is that it is not air conditioned despite listing. There are two window units, one in kitchen and one in rear bedroom but no ac in the master or the and middle bedroom or living room. Not happy about that. Otherwise house was a bit dirty/neglected. I had to clean the deck chairs and outdoor shower. Because no a/c I essentially had to fix some windows to get them to open and clean them and the screens because they were quite dirty. Main bath toilet seat was worn and unhygienic. I asked for a replacement and got it the next day but I had to install it because of the corona virus as owner had a health condition and handy man not available. We were informed after we arrived that the dishwasher was broken. It was fixed on the 8th day. Not happy about that. Fan in rear living room was set on a low setting controlled by a remote control that didn’t work . I asked for batteries several times. Kitchen is not well equipped. Missing basics like a cork screw and serving bowl and utensils. Can opener is non functional. Cutting knives are all very dull and hardly useful. A piece of the dining table, a skirting board, was broken off. Dining chairs were loose so I tightened the screws on the legs. Master bedroom door does not close and has hole in it. Master bed mattress was good but all other beds very uncomfortable I’m told. Soft and worn out. Bring your own pillows as those provided were stained and questionable looking with no pillow protectors . We bought some at Walmart for $5. Washer dryer in basement worked fine but basement very poorly lit and very musty smelly. Nobody would go down except me. Needs some lights installed and a fan to exhaust the damp air. We took advantage of the beach chairs provided by they were old and rusty. No umbrella so we bought one and left it for others. Really think a beach house should have chairs for guests. It’s not something you can bring with you.
The home is light and spacious. The separation of living spaces was very convenient for our guests and us. The location was great. We have already booked for next year!
