Choteau, Montana
The Rocky Mountain Front Retreat is located 23 miles NW of Choteau, at close to 5,000 feet above sea level, on a 20 acre section of the historic Moore homestead established in 1919. If you are looking to experience the 'last best place' in the Crown of the Continent, where the rugged Rocky Mountains meet the expansive Great Plains, this is it.
Many outdoor activities are at your door step, such as hiking, photography, running or biking. Also, there are over 1,000 miles of wilderness trails close by in the Lewis and Clark National Forest and the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Plus, there are fishing, hunting and skiing opportunities in season.
There are very few places to stay located on the Rocky Mountain Front. It is sparsely populated with plenty of wildlife viewing, including: mule and white tail deer, elk, many varieties of birds, grizzly and black bears, chipmunks, rabbits and squirrels.
For those times you prefer to be cozy and stay indoors, the interior is comfortable and inviting, with quality furniture, and fully-equipped kitchen(s). The area is very quiet if you are looking for some writing or other creative time.
The Retreat has just been upgraded with high speed internet and two flat screen TVs for streaming from the internet, together with DVD players for watching movies.
High speed WiFi is available, as is a land line phone for local calls.
Introductory pricing from $120 to 220 per night (plus cleaning fee and taxes).
• The Rocky Mountain Front Retreat offers two suites: The Elk Suite and the Grizzly Suite.
• Both suites together (this site) can accommodate up to 11 guests.
• If you are interested in the one bedroom Grizzly Suite that can accommodate up to 5 guests, please see: VRBO #822351
• If you are interested in the two bedroom Elk Suite that can accommodate up to 6 guests, please see: VRBO #822466
The two suites are private and fully separated from each, joined only by a large common entry area containing the laundry and some reading/games materials.
The Retreat is located in the heart of the Rocky Mountain Front on the edge of wilderness, yet not too far from town. It truly is part of the Crown of the Continent.
Please note there are security cameras outside the entry doors and on the outside wall in the back of the property.
Our extended family has stayed here multiple times. We have a small cabin on the front, so it's great to have this place, too, when more family visit. This is the most comfortable place, with the most beautiful views. We walked with kids every evening to go play in the South Fork, and hiked a ton in the canyon. I had a favorite spot on the love seat to read in the evening and stare at Ear Mountain.
Our group of ten met here at this lovely home for our first ever summer hike on the Rocky Mtn Front. Aki and Laura's home is so comfortable, with everything you could possibly need in the kitchens and plenty of bedding and towels. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a peaceful retreat close to hiking, birding, fossil and archaeological activities.
Our second stay with extended family. Cannot think of anything to recommend to improve.
Superb location!!! Incredible!!!! Supeeb amenities in the home!!!! This is my third time there and I will certainly return. I've stayed in many VRBO's. This is hands down the most well appointed---everything a person could possibly need!
Except toilet paper supply was insufficient or else we couldn't find it.
Thank you again for another wonderful stay at your property. We found the home in clean and orderly condition. The directions provided before our arrival made the check in process quite simple. The directions to the home are easy to follow as are the directions for getting the keys and accessing the home. We love the quiet setting of the home and there is nothing like waking up to the views and wonderful Montana breezes. We love the quiet solitude of the home and the fact that unless we needed anything we didn't see a person! Thank you again for opening your home to us. It is the perfect spot to access the Rocky Mountain Front. We will be back!
Location, Location, Location! Anyone looking for outdoor activities, this is the place! You are minutes away from hikes that are hard to beat. We did the hike up to Hidden Lake, and enjoyed all the natural beauty! We had the Elk property for a week and enjoyed every minute of it. It was Dad, two adult sons and a nephew. Plenty of room, good beds, and a view out your front door that makes it worth while all by it self! We cooked trout or BarBQ'd every night. Aki was a great host and full of help full information and directions. We look forward to future stays, and exploring the Choteau area more in the future. A huge bonus was being able to attend the Agusta Rodeo! The oldest rodeo in Montana! One note of caution, driving at dawn & dusk be cautious of wild game, there is plenty in the area. On a good recommendation from the fine folks at Grizzly Sports, we picked up cans of bear spray. While trout fishing, we never saw a bear, how ever there was plenty of tracks and fresh sign. A true Montana adventure! Martin Carstens
The house was very nice, clean, and spacious with comfortable beds. The owners were accommodating and helpful. The location is beautiful as well. It was a great place to stay when spending the weekend skiing at Teton Pass.
We enjoyed both suites and highly recommend this great VRBO! Close to Teton Pass for skiing and cozy to come back to. The property had everything our larger group needed. Excellent place to stay near Choteau!!
We were thoroughly pleased with our stay at the Rocky Mountain Front Retreat. From the moment of inquiry to departure the owners/managers were incredibly responsive, easy to work with and made the whole process very easy. The location is spectacular - and the house was perfectly comfortable. It was very clean, tidy and clearly well taken care of. We will absolutely return! Thank you for such an enjoyable stay at your beautiful property!
