Interlochen, Michigan
Lakewood Lodge is a charming waterfront log home on beautiful Bass Lake in Michigan's Grand Traverse region. A very unique 1.5 acre lot with towering trees is hemmed with a 50’ private beach front on an all-sports lake. It truly is a special place for making memories with friends and family.
The full log home provides a spacious ‘up north’ ambiance with cathedral ceilings and two levels of living. An open great room with a loft, kitchen, dining and bar area are centered around an impressive natural stone fireplace. The oversized patio with access to a grill provides two dining areas, with peaceful views of the woodland landscape, wildlife, and the lake. A large fire pit in the center of the property is the favorite spot for evening storytelling and roasting marshmallows. No parties allowed.
Bass Lake is a spring fed, all-sports lake with over 100 acres. Its smaller size provides hard-to-find experience when compared to the larger and busier lakes in the area. It is great for any kind of water sport and activity, as well as an excellent fishing spot for bass, perch, pike and bluegill. Much of the lake shoreline is dedicated to a state park, with public boat access, which makes it a sanctuary and great observatory of wildlife. An older fishing boat, two kayaks and a new L-shaped composite dock are part of the amenities.
Our location offers the best of both worlds! The quiet of the nature while many popular tourist destinations are within short driving distance: Boutique shopping and artisanal dining in Traverse City, and in quaint towns along the Leelanau Peninsula • Interlochen Village and the Center for the Arts/Music Camp • The spectacular hiking area of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore • Crystal Mountain Resort for dining, spa, hiking and golf and skiing in the winter

Nothing more needs said, this place is excellent. The fire pit was well used during our stay as well as the gas grill (which the burners need replaced bad). We used the other amenities onsite as well, kayaks and the row boat. Didn't catch any fish though. The beds are super comfortable and plenty of towels provided. The place is quiet and private for the most part. We'd definitely stay here again.
Comfortable two story for our 6 people and one dog stay. Can easily have more people. Plenty of internal and external sitting areas for everyone. Beautiful beach and firepit. Love the large front porch, and relaxing stroll in neighborhood. Perfect location due to wedding in grawn. River Kayaking near by.
There are positives and negatives about this property. Would I stay here again? No. The cabin is nice, clean, cute, lots of beds and rooms. The loft is a very nice touch. The yard is nice. The host is friendly and responsive. The downside is the cabin gets very hot, it was 84 out and I was sweating like crazy especially when we cooked. The place heated up. Air conditioning units are needed. The beach.. beautiful beach BUT, it isn’t optimal for swimming. There is all this black stuff , soot or algae and as soon as u walk in it the water turns black. We came to swim so this was a major disappointment. I paid for 4 nights, we stayed 2 and stayed w friends the other 2 nights. Also no laundry puts a damper on things too. Overall a below average experience because we wanted a beach to swim in. Advertising a pretty beach, people think they can swim in nice water. This was not nice clean water unfortunately. I paid 546 a night and learned a big lesson.
This property has almost everything to make your week pleasurable. The ample outdoor seating was great appreciated. A very nice set-up at the beach with kayaks and toys. The parking options made getting in and out an easy task.
Quiet, relaxing. Had a great time.
House was very cozy & the back yard / private lake access was the winner with this property. However, the house needs a deep clean. Bathroom floors were dirty, toothpaste on framed picture in upstairs bathroom, big stain on carpet in upstairs bedroom & stains on bedspreads. Windows had cobwebs & dust on the blinds, dust on all logs on the walls, dust on the ceiling above the ceiling fan, etc. Wouldn't take much to deep clean these areas in between guests. House does not have A/C & some windows don't open so be aware if renting during hot months. I hate to even post this but we killed 2 cockroaches in the kitchen while we were there. Location & house is amazing - just needs a really deep clean to reach 5 star status.
Thanks for the stay
The property was clean & the yard & beach were excellent. Nice quiet location, our family vacation was very fun & relaxing
We stayed at the lodge the first week of August and hit perfect weather. The inside was clean and comfortable and provided plenty of room for the 8 of us. Super comfy furniture in the living room and a great beach on the lake shore. Our 3 kids age 5 thru 7 had a ball on the beach. Lynne knew we had kids in tow and provided a Lilypad float pad in the water for them to play on and they loved it. What a great addition! Thanks! She also left 2 kayaks instead of one which made for some great parent /child trips around the lake. The lake bottom is silty and shallow by dock but it did not slow the kids down at all and the water is crystal clear. The spacious very private yard made for plenty of shady places for our dogs to be secured. Everyday was finished with a fire and s'mores at the fire ring. Nice! Plenty of wood provided. The small fishing boat had some issues- the engine was not working well which Lynne had informed us of so no surprise and a little maintenance on some loose metal trim etc. would be helpful. It is a small boat and could accommodate one adult and a child (leaving room for their casting) and was used some for fishing. Fishing off the dock the kids caught too many bluegill to count plus a bass or perch now and then. All the fish were small but the kids loved it. Plenty of chairs and round picnic table on beach for the adults to lounge and keep an eye on the little ones. Things to know: The house has no air conditioning so if you happen to hit a real hot week it might be difficult to sleep at night but there are fans around. Any laundry needs have to be taken care of in Traverse City or Frankfort. Small kitchen but very serviceable with grill outside and plenty of seating outside on patio. August is active wasp and hornet season of course so may have to deal with that a little like all outdoor places. A nice rustic stay at a private, kid-friendly retreat.
We had a great time at Lakewood Lodge, particularly our two young toddlers who loved the sand and beach and shallow water. Everything was just what we wanted and expected. The yard is beautiful and provides shade as well as sun; there were plenty of spots to sit and relax, as well as eat outdoors.
