The Neighborhood

Our home is located in a wonderful neighborhood lined up with beautiful tall Aspen and Conifer trees, rock outcroppings, and total privacy.
You will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, yet you are only 5 minutes away from fine dining, casinos, world-class spas, opera shows, ...
Not very many neighbors in the area as Gilpin county is one of the least populated counties in the state of Colorado. There are less than 200 homes in the town of Black Hawk, so the area is wonderful for the outdoors and is frequently visited by all kinds of wild animals, such as Moose, Elk, Deer, Bobcats, Coyotes, Bears, and even Mountain Lions. None will bother you and consider yourself lucky if you see them because although they are there, they are very elusive.
The wilderness nearby is simply amazing, from its beautiful hikes, lakes, scenic drives to its beautiful tree-lined peaks. Trails and hikes are amazingly beautiful and so near.
Nightlife is abundant, whether it is casinos, restaurants, bars...and all are less than 5 minutes away.

Getting Around

There is a shuttle that goes from Black Hawk to Denver every hour but we do recommend renting a car for most of the year and an all-wheel drive SUV during the winter months.

Our stay was very brief, but the home was beautiful and nicely secluded. We only used the main floor and loved the views and tranquility. The kitchen needs more coffee cups and we couldn't get the grill to work. Other than that, all was perfect.

Stayed here with 4 other family members, we enjoyed our stay but found it slightly more rustic for the daily rate and photos advertised. Overall it was pleasant - nicely appointed, though the beds leave a lot to be desired - and the house has plenty of features we enjoyed, but we should have set our expectations to a nice log cabin, rather than a high-end/luxury home.

We loved the house. It had an amazing view, the beds were comfortable and very spacious. Definitely would stay here again. It’s all very close to the casinos making it the perfect destination!

The cabin was great and felt homey. We were there during on of the biggest snow storms they had had in a long time. The snow was great! Family had a great time and would recommend.

We were so excited to find this gem in the heart of Black Hawk and looked forward to the spacious and sparkling home listed. At first on site glance, our hearts fell with slight disappointment. The home is somewhat smaller than pictures would have you believe, the carpet is in desperate need of replacement or a deep cleaning, and the beds are not at all comfortable (two are inhabitable for sleeping or even sitting on, and the freezer door would not open as the previous renter got something lodged inside. But, we were booked for 7 nights, and already there, so we decided not to complain, but make the most of our time in the cabin. To our joy, we were able to have and extraordinary time! The weather was hot (heat wave) and the house was too, but on the 3rd day a cold front moved in and it really changed the ambience of the cabin. The place began to feel COZY and the night views are as spectacular as the gorgeous day mountain views. The jacuzzi is such a treat in the cool mountain air. We sat by the fire place, and enjoyed home cooking, as kitchen is fully stocked (even minus a freezer), and the master bedroom and two other rooms were an acquired comfort, and of course, the whirlpool bath is fantastic!! The dry sauna was a nice touch too! And the scenic drive into casinos, parks, and trails Is short. Plenty of places to explore on foot or if curving the mountains on your scooter or in your car is your thing, this is the perfect locations. My wish is for new beds or at least new mattresses, clean carpet or replaced, and a working freezer to be installed, and if that were to happen, not only would this review change, but we would defiantly book again! Thank you ?

It’s a beautiful place, but not quite what we expected. The windowed Great Room is beautiful, but was very uncomfortable. The sun blasts in during the day, but the curtains are fake so you can’t block it. While there are several thermostats located throughout the house, we could not find one that actually worked to control the temperature. The owner/manager was always prompt and polite in our email interactions. But there were some “rules” that made our stay stressful. The listing clearly says this house will accommodate 6 adults and 6 kids. Then the owner made us sign a paper contract stipulating that only 8 total people were allowed. (He also requested the name of each person coming to the house.) on check-in day, he sent a new list of rules that stated only 6 people total could be in the house. He said that was a state COVID law (it isn’t- I talked to the county health dept). Another “state law” was that you had to remove your shoes inside the house. Rules also stated that you are not allowed to walk anywhere off the property, and no noise after 8pm. Based on that it sounds like maybe the owner is not supposed to be using this place as a rental? It’s a cool house in an amazing spot, but it was hard to relax with so many changing rules.

Our group had a great time. Plenty of space to spread out for 8 people, plenty of bathrooms, and plenty of beds. The downstairs level was perfect for our work meeting times. There wear a lot of great hiking trails a short drive away. Sal was a great host. Check-in was easy.

The house was exactly as described. Very good communication with the host, good proximity to nearby towns. Kitchen is fully stocked and even had a cooler we used for tailgating at Red Rocks. Hot tub was perfection. Would recommend grabbing groceries on your way to the property as a lot of the closest restaurants are inside casinos (depending how the group is feeling about covid). We had such an amazing trip and would come back again! Somethings that didn’t impact our stay at all but could use attention are very minor repairs (screens and door handles).

The house is close to many activities yet feels like you are in the wilderness. It is large enough to spread out. We especially enjoyed watching the hummingbirds.
