Private 5-6 bedroom house, large living room, dining, family rooms and dinette. Large deck, patio, and outdoor sitting area. Conveniently located on Madison's near-west side(just off university ave.) on very large wooded lot. The house is 10.9 miles from EPIC, a straight shot to DOWNTOWN Madison via University Avenue and an easy drive to the AIRPORT by going around the north side of Lake Mendota.
Perfect for family reunions, wedding parties, football games, small conferences, and for the business traveler.
House is on a large wooded lot and offers privacy rarely found in the city. Has wood burner, outdoor fireplace, and off-street parking. On bus route. It is about 3 miles west of UW campus.
This is a unique, very old house with lots of beds. The location and size are great, but it had a few flaws: 1. The plumbing is shaky at best. Master bedroom shower needs a significant overhaul. After playing with it just to get started, user was forced to choose between water pressure and hot water. I've had better showers at Red Roof Inn. 2. Cleaning could be better. Bedroom remote control and some floors were sticky. 3. TV technology is "smart," but several years past its last update. As a result, none of the TV's worked quite right. I presume this has been an issue for past visitors, as the master bedroom TV was totally disconnected from all cables prior to our arrival. Given some attention to the plumbing and technology, this could be a real gem for group visits to Madison.
We loved our stay at this property! Richard was fantastic to work with. Our original intent in renting this property was to have a place for our wedding guests to stay for our daughter's wedding. However, once the pandemic hit, we had to make major adjustments which included canceling two different venues for the ceremony due to restrictions in Dane County. Richard kindly offered the backyard of this home as a site for a small wedding. The backyard was perfect for our small group of less than 20 family and friends. I highly recommend this home if you are looking for a place to relax with family and friends. The home owner is fantastic to work with, and the beautiful home is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for a home close to downtown Madison.
We had such a wonderful stay. The house is lovely and Richard was so easy to work with. We’ll be back annually!
Spacious, well-equipped, warm and home-like for a group of 10 to 12. A very good location near all the attractions of Madison.
Great WI game weekend as always and always love staying here!! Thank you so much, works perfect for the family to get together and enjoy the game weekend! A WI win always helps as well, On Wisconsin!!
There were 10 of us on a Board retreat. Warm and inviting atmosphere. Lots of places to meet officially and unofficially. Everyone enjoyed our stay at this beautiful house.
This home is very welcoming and well-stocked with the necessities for a comfortable weekend. The wood burning heater in the family room was stocked and ready to go when we returned from the fall farmers market on the capital square. The kitchen had everything that we needed to prepare snacks and meals. The beds all had wonderful linens that guaranteed good sleep for all. Thank you for a lovely place to gather for the weekend.
We used every bedroom in this home, as some family left early and others arrived a day later. Our grandchildren loved being able to run around instead of being stuck in a hotel room, kitchen was fully stocked (I had brought tea but didn’t need it as there were several kinds in the cupboard), and there was plenty of room to spread out. We were in Madison for our youngest son’s wedding and this was a perfect location—close to everything, but with privacy and a sense of being in the country. The interior is old and a bit worn, but I was glad it wasn’t a lux, upscale place because I would have been afraid to bring the 2,4, and 8-year old grandchildren into a fancy place. Comfortable and down-to-earth is what this home is all about. Huge master bedroom suite, as well!
Home worked well for the celebration of a birthday girl reaching 100. The stairs were a bit of challenge for some of her younger :) guests but, overall, it was a great success. The 40 - 50 guests had plenty of close space to mingle and enjoy refreshments and enough nooks to escape the flurry of humanity. The weather prohibited the use of the alluring outdoor space. All in all, the venue was the right choice.
We enjoyed our stay immensely. Everything was just as presented online. This lovely home was spotless, very comfortable and inviting, and a great venue for our daughter's wedding and reception. The outdoor area was perfect for the wedding ceremony, and the weather cooperated which made it a lovely weekend! Many thanks to Richard, the owner!
Had 14 members of our family in town to help celebrate our sons weekend. Used it to host many meals for 14 to 60 people. There is enough room inside and out to accommodate many more. There is an ample supply of pots, pans, utensils and paraphernalia to host those events. Beds are very comfortable and enough towels and comforters for all. Would highly recommend to anyone needing such a facility for a gathering such as ours. Would definitely be back if we need such a place in Madison again.
Richard's house was perfect for our reunion of 11 siblings/adults! This home has EVERYTHING you could possibly need, including a well stocked kitchen, charcoal for the grill and firewood for the fire pit! We enjoyed hanging out on the large deck playing cards, sharing meals around the large kitchen table, and star gazing around the fire pit at night. The backyard is wooded, quiet and spacious (and equipped with plenty of chairs). The 6 bedrooms and 21/2 baths gave everyone the privacy they needed. The pictures do not do this house justice....very charming and clean! It's location close to the University and downtown was so convenient. Thank you, Richard, for sharing your home! We appreciated your timely response to our questions and the fresh flowers on the table when we arrived! We will be back!
This property was everything as listed. There was plenty of room for everyone without fear of being crowded for 11 people. Having somewhere that felt secluded in the city was awesome as well
Richard's House was a beautiful house for our annual girlfriend's weekend. The eight of us had plenty of room to either spread out or gather together and catch up. The house is lovingly decorated and there is a wonderful deck as well as fire pit outside, all of which we used constantly. The kitchen was fully stocked and there was every supply/appliance we could think of (and some we did not) for our convenience. The TV had Amazon & Netflix so we watched movies. There was ample parking for our 5 cars on the private driveway. Although we didn't need it, there was a full laundry on site. The neighborhood was quiet and enjoyable to walk through (we went for an evening walk). I would highly recommend Richard's House to families, group getaways, group business travelers, etc.
Loved the house! Thanks for having us.
We had a lovely stay at Richard's house. It's convenient to downtown Madison, well equipped, and large enough to host a big family. Thank you for sharing your house with us!
The house was perfect for our needs. Lots of sleeping areas and large rooms to gather in. It had everything we needed and was very clean. We appreciated it’s beautiful historic touches and it was very well situated. We enjoyed it very much.
This property was large and spacious. It was very clean and had all the supplies you could want (soap, paper towels, toothbrushes, towels, dishes, pots and pans). Large kitchen where we could all gather, cook and eat. The bedroom and bathroom on the first floor also was very helpful for one of the guests that did not want to have to climb steps. I would definitely recommend this house to my friends and can see us staying at this same house in future years.
We needed a nearby home for our son’s Madison wedding. Plenty of space for our friends and family, yet a very quiet setting, set back from the street. A cozy home that made you feel like you were in a cottage in northern Wisconsin. It was a perfect setting for what we needed.
Used the home as a family retreat for our son's wedding. Handled six families easily. Well stocked with paper goods, spices, and even a few non-perishable food items. Quick response by Richard to small maintenance item. Would stay again if need for family reunion in Madison arises.
Overall a great property, well maintained and very convenient for whatever you are looking to do in Madison
We were in Madison for a wedding weekend. The big, comfy house accommodated 7 adults and one baby very comfortably. Thanks so much Richard!
What a terrific place for our party of 4 to stay during an academic conference. The house is spacious and well-appointed. Lovely antique furniture and plenty of bedrooms and space to spread out. The deck is wonderful, and the air conditioning worked like a dream, which was nice given the heat wave when we stayed. Thanks for a lovely stay! We were very pleased with the atmosphere and accommodations.
This was a perfect roomy gathering place for our extended family event plenty of clean towels also thank you Richard!
Richard's property is well maintained and worked well for our group of 12. We especially enjoyed the back deck and firepit. I would stay again anytime.
We had a wonderful time, loved the house and what a great weekend! Thank you!
We had a group of guys stay Richard Home and it was incredible. We had a blast. Everything you need is within a very short drive.
Beautiful, clean house was perfect a weekend football road trip to Madison!
The property is spacious with plenty of room for our large party. The house was very clean and well maintained. The location was very accessible for our events and outings around Madison. Richard was very responsive to questions about our stay. Thank you for letting us use your wonderful home! We had a great stay and reunion of friends for a wedding.
This house was awesome. We had a reuinion here with 12 people and it accomadated all of us very comfortably. Everyting was very clean and very organized. It was only 3 miles from downton Madison. The back yard and all of the lawn chairs were great to have along with the wonderful firepit. What a great weekend!!
Large, beautiful home, private setting yet right in the city, close to stores and area attractions. Highly recommend.
We couldn't have asked for a better home base while celebrating our daughter's wedding at the Blackhawk Country Club. We did a 9 night stay with my husband and I having the home all to ourselves on the first and last nights which allowed us to prepare for our guests and to pack at the end of our visit at a more leisurely pace. Family stayed with us from New Mexico, Montana, Minnesota and Wisconsin. We were able to share family meals, cook on the grill and roast hot dogs over the fire. The house had everything we needed and had space for a variety of activities, inside and out. The groom's family joined us for wedding preparations on the two large dining tables as we tied bows on the flower jars and did last minute tasks. The location was convenient to the Blackhawk, Hilldale Mall and the Best Western InnTowner where our guests stayed. On Sunday the house worked wonderfully for a day long open house with family and friends stopping in for beer and brats as they left Madison by car or by plane. My husband and I kept the large bedroom for ourselves and every morning we woke up in what felt like a giant treehouse with birds singing and the sun rising outside the large windows on 3 sides of the room. The two full baths upstairs and half bath downstairs meant no waiting at anytime. This house was wonderful and met all of our needs. Thank you Richard!
WONDERFUL PLACE TO STAY IF WANT TO VISIT MADISON, FOR A FAMILY REUNION, GRADUATION, OR GET TOGETHER. LARGE SPACIOUS PLACE, COZY, CLEAN.
Richard's lovely house was ideal for a weekend get-together with family. The house was spacious enough to accommodate our large group very comfortably, and the kids enjoyed the large deck and yard. Getting downtown was easy, too. Richard responded to questions quickly and was very easy to work with. Highly recommend this house.
I rented out this home while visiting Madison for a conference. We had a total of six guests and we were all able to sleep comfortably. The owner did a great job with communication and providing us with everything we needed.
We had 10+ friends get together for a brief weekend getaway and the house was perfect for our needs. I am a UW Alumnus and the house just felt like you were coming home to Madison. Everyone had a blast and we look forward to visiting again. Highly recommend. One of the easiest VRBO experiences I've had. Thanks again!
This is really a fantastic house for a group. So cozy and full of charm. Two dinning room areas and two sitting rooms meant that we had plenty of room to spread out and relax. Plenty of bedrooms, all with comfortable beds and room for your stuff. Plus big beautiful yard with back deck. It was cold during our visit, but it would have been nice to have had a fire in the fire pit and sit outside. The house is well stocked with plenty of supplies in the kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry room - don't buy any detergent for doing laundry! It's all there! Lastly, nice owner. Clearly he loves this property. And you will too.
Our large extended family all fit comfortably for a grand holiday reunion. We love Madison and Richard's house was just perfect for us. Highly recommend this place for a large crew.
excellent time was had by all....the fireplace was a wonderful addition to the house. Our family loved the huge dining area...we had many a good talk around cups of coffee in the morning. Thanks for shoveling the walk and driveway after the big snow storm. Coming from places with no snow, we were grateful that we did not have to negotiate the snowy walks/driveway when we awoke to the winter wonderland! I would definitely recommend this beautiful house to all...there are not many in the area with that much room and ambience. Thanks again! To answer some of the questions below: the listing was very accurate, the location was excellent, the property was clean and well-maintained...this was obvious when the owner came to shovel the driveway on Sunday...since we were only focused on getting to and from Blackhawk Country Club and my mom's house in Shorewood Hills, the attractions were unnecessary but the Target and Starbucks got multiple visits in the two days
This house was perfect for our family reunion. The property was so close to everything we needed and wanted while we were in Madison. The accommodations were perfect to host multiple families.
We very much enjoyed our stay. The location was ideal. The house and grounds were immaculate, well kept and served our needs completely. The kitchen was well stocked with all of the cooking implements we needed. There were more than enough beds to sleep the bride, bridesmaids and family on Friday night. Family and friends stayed Saturday night after the wedding. We believe we could have easily slept 14 in the beds provided. The kitchen, dining areas and back deck worked perfectly for us to host brunch on Sunday morning. I would strongly recommend this property to anyone needing a weekend getaway in Madison, WI. Two thumbs up!
No complaints at all. There were 10 women (over the age of 50), the house was clean, nicely decorated and there were plenty of towels. Beds were extremely comfortable. It was close to anything we wanted to see in Madison; ample seating for dinner and for watching the Packer game. The weather was wonderful, but too early for maximum fall colors. The only thing is the coffee machine did not work well. Ten women, and all needing coffee in the morning; the machine only cranked out 1/2 pot in three hours! The next day, we elected one person to get up and start it at 4:00 a.m.; when everyone got up at 7:00 a.m., the pot was barely half full. Now THAT was a bummer. Thank goodness we found some instant coffee in the cupboard. That was the only issue we had. It was a great October weekend for the 10 of us.
This home was in a nice location. We walked to a 'market' just down the block, and also walked to The Original Pancake House for breakfast. Lots of kitchen items, many towels, sheets were comfy. Some nice reading material available. There is lots of space for everyone to spread out! Be ready to climb quite a few stairs from the driveway to the main door. There is only a half bath on the main floor; two full baths are upstairs. Because part of the house is older, expect some squeaky doors and floors and stairs.
We were a group of 7 women who stayed in Richard's home for a girls weekend visit to Madison. The house has a lot of great usable space for a large group. It was very clean, equipped with everything we needed and when we ran out of gas for the grill, Richard came right over with a new tank. Very accommodating. We would stay here again for sure. Very easy access to downtown Madison.
This secluded setting is a fantastic location for a family reunion, wedding party or any large group to get together for a few days. Richard supplies everything you need to enjoy some time away to relax with family or friends.
This house allowed for ample space inside and out during our 'man's weekend'. We had plenty of space to sit at the two tables, ample space for sleeping and parking along with a very nice deck and side yard for playing yard games. This home is nicely placed just off the road but very close to stores just around the corner. Uber had zero problem picking us up and dropping us off. Several of the guys mentioned they would absolutely rent this place again! Richard had the place clean, air conditioning running with great instructions before arrival and a notebook with the same on the counter there.
My family and I could not have asked for a more perfect home for our vacation. The location is ideal -- close to Madison's lakes, parks, restaurants and grocery stores, yet in a lush green and private setting. The home is large, spacious and beautifully decorated. Every possible amenity is provided -- from plush towels to toiletries to spices to cooking tools. The large deck and grill are perfect for cookouts, and the yard is shaded and peaceful. It truly is a perfect home-away-from home. I cannot think of a single thing that could be improved. Thanks, Richard, for providing a lovely locale for my five siblings + spouses (and one five-year old and one beagle) for our summer vacation!
We really enjoyed our stay at Richard's house. The place is very large and extremely accommodating for a group. We found all the beds to be very comfortable & the place has all the amenities you'll need for a great stay. The fireplace is great & makes the place real cozy. Richard was also very easy to communicate with. I'd definitely stay here again.
The house is fantastic and there is so much that the owner offers but is not in the description. The house has two dining tables each able to seat 8. There are two living rooms, plenty of parking and at least three tvs with local stations. The owner has generously left behind all the things you might forget to bring. We had between seven and eight adults and there was more than enough room. Looking forward to coming back next year. Thank you.
