Harpers Ferry, West Virginia
1st floor private suite with 2 entrances. Filled with light and art in our pre Civil War home in the heart of Harpers Ferry.
Trouvaille House was built in 1830 and was one of the earliest houses built. It has been remodeled in 2021 and is light, bright and full of artwork. It is a private guesthouse with 4 luxury suites and a community area with kitchen.
The Provence Suite is the largest in the house, originally a living room, complete with fireplace (Electric insert for safety!) and exquisite double sliding doors into a huge, skylit bathroom. The bathroom is very spa like with stained glass, dimmable lights and luxury toiletries, linens and robes. The claw foot bathtub is for soaking after a long day exploring town! (It does have a hand shower.) From your bathroom, you can go out into your private sunroom where you will find Nespresso coffee just waiting to be brewed! There is also a private keyed entrance in the sunroom if you prefer to use it. Your room has a mini fridge stocked with milk for your coffee as well as bottled water.
The new kitchen is a shared, gathering type space with full set of dishes, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, etc. Lots of windows and light and seating options.
Trouvaille House is on the Main Street - Washington Street, just steps from lower town and convenient to everything.
(No keys to lose or to return! This property provides secure, keyless entry with an August Smart Lock. You can lock and unlock the door with your smartphone, using a unique virtual key, or personal entry code issued to you for the duration of your stay.)
Very clean historical home, and nicely decorated. The only thing that could have been better is receiving a passcode for the home and our room before arriving via email like most rental properties do.
We enjoyed our stay. Harpers Ferry is a fascinating place to visit. There is a severe shortage of dining opportunities for visitors. We drove to nearby Charletown for Friday dinner and Sunday breakfast!
Very comfortable, spacious, well located. Christie was an excellent host and gave us very useful advice about options and activities in the town. Thanks to that we had a very enjoyable weekend.
It’s a great place to get away. Christie leaves you with stellar recommendations for food, hikes, and shopping. I enjoyed reading in the sunroom on the rainy days of my stay and touring the places she recommended. And…… that soaking tub…… I’d go back for the bathtub alone. 10 outta 10 would recommend!
Christie met us soon after we arrived and gave us great info and background about the area. Beautifully decorated suite, clean and comfortable. We walked to restaurants, the park and to a Maryland Heights. Great place to stay!
The experience was wonderful. Property is very clean and comfortable. 15 minute walk to Lower Town. Plus a great bar with live music just 5 minute walk in the other direction. Host was very nice and informative. Had a wonderful 2 days at this property and will stay here again when we return to Harper’s Ferry.
This is a beautiful and well-appointed home. It's convenient to town and other services such as a bakery and some good restaurants. The owner was easy to reach and came by the house to introduce herself. I highly recommend!
This property is wonderful, the photos don't do it justice! Our suite was very roomy, clean, and comfortable. Close to everything! We enjoyed the outdoor grill and hang out area as well.
This was the perfect place for us to celebrate our anniversay. We loved the back sun room to start out morning. Love the lavendar soap as well.
It was perfect! All the amenities needed,
In town to play golf at Palma Ceia and this was the perfect spot. Thank you!!
My husband and I originally booked 2 nights. Temps were some of the coldest of the winter and when we arrived at the house we couldn’t even take our winter coats off because the house felt just as cold inside. We found the remote to start the electric fireplace in our room which kept it comfortable so we didn’t bring it to the owner’s attention as the problem was solved. However, we had the room with the large bathroom which was absolutely freezing! There was a drafty door from the bathroom that led to an enclosed glass patio that didn’t have any heat. We found a remote in the sunroom but didn’t see anything that it belonged to so when we text her she said it was for a heater in the sunroom (we didn’t see one) but she asked us not to turn it on. The bathroom was chilly but we didn’t complain to the owner since the chill stemmed from the unheated sunporch. We left for the evening and when we returned we had difficulty getting into our room using the keypad. After several attempts and contacting the owner she noted that the keypad to our room was “finicky”. The next morning the blow dryer stopped working within a few seconds after it was turned on. We tried all of the outlets in the bathroom and bedroom and only one in the bedroom worked which was behind the bed headboard. The gas fireplace also stopped working along with the tv. We contacted the owner. It took her an hour to respond. She said that has happened in the past and that the electric fireplace heater pulls a lot of power and you can’t use a blow dryer at the same time or an electrical issue occurs. In a phone conversation with the owner, she agreed that due to the issues we could check out after the first night and she would refund us the second night’s stay minus the cleaning fee which we agreed to. We commented that the temps were some of the coldest of the winter and there wasn’t much to do in the area and she pulled that from the conversation and is claiming that is why we checked out early, which is untrue. We gave the owner plenty of time to refund us what she verbally agreed to and we tried contacting her through text messages but no response. We were then notified that she is claiming damages for breaking the handle on her refrigerator which we did not do. What you do not see in any pictures is that small dorm-size refrigerator sits on the floor behind the door and when the door opens it automatically hits into the middle of the handle—right where it’s broken.
We loved our stay! The house is immaculate! So gorgeous! We would definitely like to come back! The host is so caring to make sure your stay is perfect!
My husband and I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary with a weekend stay in Harpers Ferry. Our room was large and comfortable, with lots of charm. The host, Christie May, gave us a wonderful tour of the property, its history, and tips for things to do while in town. The location is great, within walking distance to restaurants, pubs, hiking, and other things to do. We will be back!
We really enjoyed our stay in this beautifully updated house and walking down to the shops, restaurants, historic spots and hiking opportunities every day.
Perfectly located to enjoy all that Harpers Ferry has to offer, this beautiful home is steeped in legacy. I loved my spacious bedroom, stunning bathroom and peaceful sun room. Thank you Christie for sharing the history, where to go and what to do.
Loved our host, Christie's hospitality and knowledge of the area. Everything she recommended was right on key. The house was an amazing historical home and our room was beautiful. Enjoyed taking a bubble bath in the clawfoot tub, after a long hike! Being our first VRBO, will definitely do this again. Would totally recommend this place to anyone!
Our suite in this beautifully reimagined antique home was a welcome retreat. Just over the crest of the Washington St hill in Harpers Ferry, it was an ideal base to unwind and explore.
