5 Star Generals Retreat is a charming, elegantly-furnished, 2 bedroom/1 bath guest home that rests behind our family's original property (The Big House) that was built in 1919. Nestled in a private setting with a private driveway and parking, this gorgeous vacation property is a mere 15 minute walk from Main Street Franklin and all of the historic sightseeing, shopping, and dining it has to offer.
There is ample outdoor room to run and enjoy cooking and recreation with the family. Enjoy the view of the historic property via a screened in porch and large outdoor patio off the master bedroom, the latter of which includes a gas grill and grilling utensils for cookouts.
Generals Retreat also offers a fully-stocked kitchen with service for 8, a formal cozy living room with console TV and a separate dining room surrounded on three sides with plantation shutters, a stackable washer/dryer, and much more.

Lovely cottage tucked in on the property close to downtown Franklin. Comfortable and cozy stay with everything you need.
The house was in a beautiful neighborhood close to downtown.
This property couldn’t be cuter and is as darling as it looks in the pictures! I stayed here for two weeks while in town for a horse show, and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Mark greeted me upon arrival to show me around - he was SO warm and friendly. The banana bread which greeted me as well ;-) was beyond delicious! I definitely recommend staying here if you have the opportunity!
Incredible location with wonderful property owners. Would definitely stay there again and recommend others looking for a weekend in Franklin area stay there as well.
Very clean, safe and great location!
General's Retreat is a beautifully decorated cottage in the heart of Franklin. The owners, Damon and Mark have done a splendid job of showcasing art and antiques in a cozy and warm atmosphere that wraps you in a hug from the moment you arrive. I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking to explore all that Franklin has to offer. We celebrated a 92nd birthday there and would love to return at another time.
Everything we needed and a nice screen porch that made you feel like you were outside of the city limits. Great for morning coffee.
Very good communication. Location was greay
This house is an oxymoron. It has great facilities to enjoy the outdoors with dogs (Being a long leash, as fence has openings. ). However, the house itself has antique furniture which is much better suited for short, thin people. It is beautiful, but not something you would want a dog to gnaw, so property is not well- suited to young dogs. Older, well-mannered dogs - no problem. We brought three dogs, two older and one young pup. Carpeting throughout is nice, but again, not as dog friendly as. Hard surface would be. House has all the amenities to make short, thin to average-sized people have a wonderful stay. Beautiful screened porch, living room, bedrooms, etc. Wonderful, gracious hosts. Big yard, lots of outdoor seating and tables, BBQ grill. There is an adjoining unit, perfect for traveling for a family reunion. Dog friendly for mature, well behaved dogs. Not so much for pups.
The General’s Retreat cottage was just perfect for our stay……..great location to downtown Franklin, awesome furnishings, super easy check-in, very cozy, nice wood-burning fireplace and outdoor fire-pit, and stocked well with supplies. We really enjoyed our stay and would certainly go back.
Loved our stay and Damon is a true delight. Place is very charming and spacious, really enjoyed sitting on the patio with tea and wine. Will definitely make it my go to place when staying in Franklin!
My wife and I along with my daughter and my Mom were able to travel from VA and spend several days visiting with two of our older sons that now work in TN and GA. The Generals Retreat was the perfect place to stay. The kitchen allowed us to cook several meals for the six of us. The dining room, living room, porch and yard gave us several opportunities to talk, play games and catch up with each other. The location gave us a chance to easily see Franklin and to have access to an incredible park area for running. The hosts spoke with us several times to see if we needed anything. They also warned us of a city-wide fun run that would shut down several streets. Their concern for us allowed us to leave early and avoid a huge delay in our departure for home. We plan to stay here again on our next visit and encourage you to stay here as well.
NICE PROPERTY CLOSE TO MAIN STREET FRANKLIN AND GRAND CHILD. QUIET NEIGHBORHOOD. GOOD VISIT.
Such a serene place . Like stepping back in time when one drives down the driveway, and passes the owners house that I called Gone with the Wind house . The whole area is full of history and staying in the Generals Quarters, with its beautiful shuttered dining room and sunroom off the main bedroom just added to the enjoyment of our stay. The owners were very friendly and hospitable. I would definitely recommend this cottage to everyone.
I booked this property for a weekend getaway with my mom. We are simple, down to earth country women who don't require a lot. We were looking for a clean, quiet place to relax. While this property was well stocked (except for toilet paper--there was only one roll) and the beds were comfortable, overall, it appeared to be sadly neglected. There was dust and cobwebs around the tops of almost all the lampshades. The door threshold from the twin bedroom onto the patio was covered in dirt, leaves, bugs and cobwebs and appeared not to have been cleaned in ages. When the large closet in this bedroom was opened, it was found to contain the HVAC system and there were large piles of dirt and dust (enough to fill up several dust pans) covering the floor. We had looked forward to sitting on the screened porch, but the floor was covered with leaves and the furniture needed a good cleaning. The outdoor furniture also needed a good cleaning, a downspout was off the side of the house and the foundation plantings were full of weeds. The plumbing is in serious need of repair. A sign on top of the comode indicated the plumbing was old. The sign stated to hold down the handle for several seconds until the comode flushed and not to try to reflush until the bowl refilled. While we followed these instructions, we had difficulty ever getting the comode to completely flush the first night we were there. Finally, at about 5 am, my 80 year old mom took the cover off the tank and figured out there was a button on top of the tank that you could push down and the comode would flush perfectly. Since we were able to fix the problem on our own, I didn't see the need to call the owners, but the issue does need to get resolved and I can't imagine we were the first guests to have this problem. We noticed that there were several flashlights in the house and a sign indicated that there were often power outages. We did experience two of these, and while they lasted only a few minutes each, they required resetting clocks and tvs in the house. This was a bit unnerving, as they happened without reason (no storm, nothing extra turned on or plugged in)--making us wonder if this was a wiring problem in the house. Also, this house is connected to a small apartment and apparently they share an HVAC system--everytime the neighbors in the apartment made coffee or cooked you could smell it in the twin bedroom. We wanted to love this place, but overall it had the look of being neglected.
All was great...easy to get to town, delightful back porch, beautiful neighborhood!!!
Absolutely lovely relaxing stay in a comfortable, safe and quaint neighborhood. We hope to visit again soon! Thank you to Mark and Damon. Hoping Mark is feeling well soon!
