Darby, Montana
Our incredibly charming, fully self-contained 1000 sq ft private rural guest home retreat sits over our garage in the middle of 20 lush acres bordering US Forest Service land and is located just minutes from Lost Trail Ski area, rivers, fishing, lakes and hiking (guests can hike into the forest straight from the property). It has the rustic quintessential Montana vibe + 360 degree views of mountains, pine trees & horse pasture. It features a queen size log bed with a super comfy mattress, 2 full sized futon (fits two adults) Franklin style gas fireplace, full Kitchen (with spices, oil, herbs, organic coffee, sugar and honey), bathtub/shower with shampoo, conditioner and soap in a pump bottle, two additional couches, WIFI, skylights & HD TV as well as access to a 5-person hot tub on the main house back deck with views of the mountains and horses! And when the chickens are cooperating, we will supply organic eggs with yummy bacon! Please let us know how many beds you need before hand. There are exterior cameras on the property
Beautiful setting, but little effort in making it special. Rustic feel was great but kitchen was too rustic, disorganized and haphazard. For $100 a new sink and faucet, silverware and pot and pan set instead of used and dirty relics. Cleaning could have been more thorough as cleaning the windowsills of the hundreds of deceased flying insect’s, and checking the place for the 50 or so flies in the unit as you enter was a turnoff. Kitchen, again needed attention, as well as the shower area and bath. A new light in the bath, you have to ask, is it part of the rustic charm or just inattentive care? The layout was strange with too many couches (5 for a small unit) with no easy place to sit and have a meal. The listing talked about how the owner wanted to know your arrival so that they could greet you and settle you in, however, in the four days we were there we never saw anyone. The place is in a beautiful setting with horses, cows and fields set against the mountain. The pictures represent a cozy rustic setting and most of that is true. But there are some things about the place that with just a little attention and TLC it could really shine unfortunately it did not.
This is our second time staying at the 'ranch', and I'm sure it won't be the last. We love the hosts, we love the property, and we love the Darby area. The views are wonderful, the people are friendly, and the skiing is incredible.
Absolutely beautiful studio with beautiful views of the rockies. Jim met us with a smile, and showed us around. They had even stocked the fridge with eggs from their chickens, organic coffee beans and other supplies so we wouldn’t need to go find a store our first day there. I would love to return to stay there again.
It was a nice place to stay, but the price advertised was not the final cost. They added a cleaning fee of $40.00. They should mentioned that when we booked it!
Beautiful property! Easy and friendly check-in. The studio apartment is very large and well stocked with anything you could need. The owners even left bacon and eggs in the fridge for us. The beds are very comfy. The views are so beautiful that you will miss not having a balcony to watch the horses and wildlife. Also, the skylights meant we were up with the sun. So, bring a sleep mask if you plan to sleep in at all. Otherwise, this place is a dream and I would love to come back.
My son and I stayed here for the first part of a ski trip. It was a great stay. Property was very clean, homey, and was beautiful. The beds were comfortable. The decorations had a mountain / cozy cabin feel. Hosts were attentive, polite, and caring. They left fresh eggs and bacon with a personal note in the refrigerator as a enjoy a mountain breakfast on us. We would stay here again.
It was the amazing time. The jacuzzi was fabulous after a long day of skiing. We had a wonderful time there, with easy access to the mountain and the dogs loved being able to play in the snow. This is a great place to bring the family and enjoy the snowy weather.
Loved it. Beautiful property, everything we needed in the guest suite. Hot tub under the stars was amazing!
The place was great. Very relaxing. Just wish there would have been a balcony or a covered porch. Very clean and well stocked.
This is a fantastic place to stay. The room is comfortable spacious and very nicely decorated.
It was a beautiful place to stay and it was not far from Darby. It was very clean and the people that work there are very nice. Loved the complementary eggs and bacon! The beds were super comfy and I would definitely stay again! Owner was very responsive to questions. I couldn’t have asked for better accommodations while attending my sister’s wedding.
I loved everything about my stay! I felt completely at home; best nights sleep I’ve had in a long time with the cool mountain breeze and the quiet surroundings. Donna and Jim were so great and very responsive to all of my needs. I loved exploring the property and being so close to Darby. I can’t wait to come back next summer!!
Clean, beautiful, perfect location!
What an incredible place to stay. Location was perfect. Donna was an amazing host. We will be back to stay in the near future Mike
Great place for a family of 4 with a dog to spend a weekend skiing at Lost Trail. We saw many elk and greatly enjoyed the fresh eggs and bacon.
Thank you, our stay was wonderful. Exactly what we needed for a ski weekend.
Nice and spacious home base for a visit to the southern Bitterroot Valley. The very well-stocked And well-equipped kitchen makes the property unique. We also appreciated the fresh eggs and bacon.
Excellent
What a wonderful property and situation. We loved the apartment and the people a great deal. Beautiful land and very comfortable digs. We loved the horses wandering the pastures and all the views.
My 10 yr old daughter & I arrived at check-in, 5pm. The VRBO appeared clean. As we were settling in, I noticed a cup ring on the dresser from a previous guest. This told me that not all surfaces were wiped down/disinfected. Under a bed there was a chapstick left from a previous guest, not all floors were swept/checked before our coming. Our time was quiet and hot tub was great! Unfortunately within 2 days of our return, my girl broke out in a rash. P.A. confirmed via micro that she contracted scabies. Being that we are locals and haven't traveled beyond this VRBO & had not purchased clothing recently, the P.A. believes she got it at this VRBO. I am now spending $$$ to clean/kill mites. Nightmare! As asked, not required, we stripped bed and did dishes before check out. Just a warning: Don't Be Fooled That VRBO's Are More Hygienic Than A Hotel.
Easy to find. Close to town but in a beautiful country setting. The room looked just like the pictures. Plenty of space for activities with lots of beds. Many extras in the kitchen for cooking. The Bacon and eggs that were left in the frig were a big hit. We hope to return next year.
Such a beautiful place to stay and the host was wonderful.
We had a very nice getaway. The countryside was amazingly beautiful and the accommodations were very comfortable and very clean. We would highly recommend this as a wonderful place to get away for a quiet vacation!
I left a note to the Owners ( Host Donna) the last time I was here that I would be back. I kept my word primarily because not only is the property immaculate and accommodating but the whole ranch around you experience is breathtaking. And I love the owners and how they are always there for their guests. And I did leave Donna and Jim another note: I will be back.
