Mountain view House is the perfect place from which to explore the most beautiful parts of Ireland –the Ring of Kerry and the Beara peninsula. It is set in 6 acres of grassland and has stunning views over the mountain ranges of McGilly Cuddy’s Reeks and the Kenmare River. It has its own stream and gardens.
The house itself is cosy and warm, easy to use and just as easy to lock up and go. There is an open fire in the sitting room and a wood burning stove in the kitchen, aswell as a quick an efficient central heating system. It is a ideal place to stay in both winter and summer. The Christmas festivities in Kenmare are second to none. The kitchen is fully equipped.
The Gulf Stream on the south west of Ireland ensures a warm climate, ideal for walking, fishing, sailing and even swimming! The beautiful gardens of Derreen House, where there is a famous collection of sub-tropical trees and plants, is well worth a visit.
Mountain View house is in an ideal position for walkers to enjoy the many paths and routes, taking you across the Kerry Way, and over some beautiful mountain ranges. The routes along the coast towards Sneem provide some of the best sea views in Kerry.
Kenmare town itself is as picturesque as any in Ireland. It is famous for its markets, both for livestock and for local, natural products. Along with its award winning restaurants and well known musical pubs, it is an ideal place to have a meal or sample some Guinness of an evening. The many art galleries provide an excellent opportunity to see the work of some very gifted local artists, who capture the landscape in all its forms. Also, The Church of the Holy Cross in Kenmare is a large and impressive building with very beautiful and splendid interiors, whose spire can be seen from all over town.

Within easy distance are the Skelligs, Blarney Castle and the Lakes of Killarney. Not to be missed is the beautiful valley of Gleninchaquin, with its stunning waterfall. This feeds into the chain of freshwater lakes –the lakes of Cloonee, where the views are incredible. For those interested in fishing, it is easy to hire a boat for the day and go out on one of the stunning lakes in the Blackwater valley. Alternatively, for those with artistic leanings, there are glass engraving classes, batik classes and, for those with a passing interest in chocolate, there is a shop in Bonane, which demonstrates exactly how it is made.

There is a riding school for beginners, or the more advanced, which comes highly recommended, called Dromquinna Stables. There is also a sailing club, Star Outdoors Centre, which provides courses in Kayaking canoeing and supervised hillwalking. All of this, within a few minutes from the house. There are also two 18 hole golf courses near Kenmare.

If you are interested in taking a dip in the sea, there is nothing better than popping down to the beautiful Templenoe Pier in the early evening, where you can swim and look across the bay to the stunning views of the Caha mountains.
We hope you have a wonderful stay in our house and enjoy it as much as we do.
PS) We have upgraded both the sofa in
sitting room, plus mattress in main bedroom, to ensure you have a comfortable stay.

The house and amenities were awesome. We loved the views across the valley and its close location to Kenmare. The only issues we had was that the house appeared to be prepped for winter. Hot water, central heating and all electrical jacks were turned off. Because the power to WIFI was off, the password provided didn’t work on power up, luckily the original password on the box worked. The water heater came on and heated up fast, but in Summer More the Central Heating doesn’t work even though both timers are engaged per instructions. We had to turn Winter Mode on AND set the he temperature for the centeral heater water. After all that we he house heated up gloriously, in fact we soon found ourselves too hot . If we visit again we would like to have some wood to burn in the main room fireplace. Thanks for an awesome cottage!!!!

This is a lovely old house perched high on a hill overlooking Kenmare. It was a very comfortable place to stay, with big kitchen/diner and lounge rooms. Well equipped for cooking and eating. Very peaceful and relaxing stay. The only 'flaw' is the bath - you cannot stand to have a shower and it's really hard to get out of the old bath! It was ok for us but would not suit anyone with mobility issues.

Nice rustic home about a 7 minute drive from town. This area is a very good staging area for the Ring of Kerry, Ladies View, and the Gap of Dunlow. (All must sees) The heating system is a bit challenging to find a balance between cool, damp and too hot. Note that the shower is not really a shower. It’s a tub with a 4 foot ceiling. On the plus side, it has a huge yard looking out towards the mountains, with tons of bunnies running around the field.

What a great place for a nice, quiet country cottage stay!!! Everything was just as described in the listing but a nice surprise was the short drive into the heart of Kenmare for a variety of restaurants and pubs to visit. I'd love to come back in the future, southern Ireland is absolutely beautiful around the coast and up into Killarney!!!

I would first like to say that it was easy for us to find the place and it was a very beautiful location. The cottage was decent and had everything we needed. Kenmare is a beautiful town. However, the only cleaning that was mentioned in the listing was running the dishwasher. When we got there there, were notes that we needed to take out the rubbishe, separate and take out our recycling and we needed to start the first load of laundry. I wish this would have been on the listing as there was a 35 cleaning fee. I may not have booked the property knowing that there would have been that much cleaning to do. Also, there were 2 different structures on the property. 1 brown 1 blue. The only one we were able to see in was the blue structure which had a couple of beds in it. It left us feeling unsettled as we weren't sure if somebody else was going to be staying there while we were. It would have been nice that these two structures and all of the cleaning would have been in the listing. Overall, it was beautiful. It provided us with a bed and kitchen items. But, the listing does need to be updated with relevant information.

We totally enjoyed our time at the cottage. It does have its quirks and we appreciated the reviews that cautioned about finding and getting into the cottage. Even with that, we couldn't locate it immediately and were trying to reconcile the difference in instructions we were receiving in the app and in emails. Emily was immediately reachable and helpful. Once we figured out the electricity, which is set up differently than in the States, and the key situation, we settled in and thoroughly enjoyed the shifting clouds on the mountains, the sheep, and the view from the bathroom. Based on a review that said the house was 1km from town, we thought we could walk into Kenmare but that would have been challenging. Great location for exploring the area but not on foot--or at least we couldn't figure that part out. Would happily return.

Lovely older house away from the hustle and bustle of Kenmare. Perfect location for exploring the Beara Peninsula. Guests have access to both a washer and dryer.

It’s in a lovely quiet position with good views from the garden and upstairs windows. Lots of rabbits in the adjoining field and a group of Roe deer visiting each evening to graze. I suppose it could be considered a little dated in style and decor, but we had no complaints. We used both bedrooms and were both comfortable. The smaller bedroom would benefit from a bedside light. The shower over the bath has no headroom, but is easily adjustable. Good value for money, suitable for a quiet pair of companions such as ourselves, but probably not for a party!
