Prudence Island, Rhode Island
Our classic island cottage is located in the Homestead neighborhood on the corner of Narragansett Ave and Pier Rd. We are across the street from the ocean and within a short walk to the ferry landing. We have a panoramic view of Narragansett Bay and a large enclosed front porch from which to enjoy watching the boats sail by. The beach is quiet and perfect for a morning walk to Sandy Point and the Lighthouse.
Each year, we make minor upgrades to the cottage. This year we replaced the light fixtures and added ceiling fans throughout. We also added WiFi for our guests. In 2020, we upgraded the electrical service and re-glazed the tub. In 2019, we replaced the outdoor shower.
The cottage has hardwood floors throughout. The two bedrooms each have a full size bed and the front porch has a daybed and trundle for extra sleeping space. The kitchen includes a gas range and a microwave. An outdoor shower, charcoal grill, and a washer and dryer, located in the garage, are provided for your convenience.
Prudence Island is located near the geographical center of the bay. To get to the island, a Prudence & Bay Islands Transport ferry from Bristol provides transportation for you and your vehicle. Once there, this quiet island provides the perfect environment for sailing, boating, beach combing, fishing, hiking and biking. In World War II, the Navy established an ammunition depot on the southernmost 400 acres which they turned over to the State of Rhode Island in 1972. Today the former base is now the Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve where you can still find bunkers and the T-Warf pier. Approximately 85% of the island is in conservation easement and there are miles of hiking trails which help you explore the island.
Although there are no restaurants on the island, you will find a small general store and a few farm stands where you can purchase fresh eggs and vegetables.
Great place to stay. Grew up on Prudence always love coming back and seeing family. Will be back again next year.
Very nice home, perfect location, house has everything needed
The property was just fantastic, fully equipped with everything we needed, beautiful views, location was amazing especially for someone coming without a car since it’s across the street from the ferry & the little store. My family of five had the best time. Thank you!
Across from the ferry and general store as stated. 3.5 miles down to T Wharf. Excellent hiking trails through shaded woods paths. Sunset trail terrific as well. Bring extra bike tire tubes.... Terrific vacation destination. Thank you!
We had a wonderful quiet, peaceful old timey vacation — walking, exploring, fishing, reading, chatting, playing board games, watching the boats and ships pass by, enjoying the breezes and the morning mists, evening sunsets, outdoor shower, and home cooking. No WiFi, no AC — and we didn’t turn on the TV. Quality time — loved every minute!
Pictures do not do this listing justice! The place was very clean and had more amenities than expected. It is a very peaceful space with an excellent view. The ferry situation can be challenging, but the walks on the island can fill the time on the island easily. Also surprisingly, the ferry itself is actually a fun experience! You can really unwind and relax here. Loved it and hope to come back soon!
Pictures don't do this place justice!! This was a stunning location! Owner was awesome, responsive, and just perfect. Couldn't ask for a better weekend!!
Very quiet little island with great fishing on T warf and tons of clams to dig
We love Prudence Island ! We've been coming here for over 10 years. This was out second year at Avalon, and it's just the right fit. All amenities are perfect in this house. A great place to unwind from the chaos and simply relax. We will be back. Mark McHugh
Beautiful home, with the most amazing sunrises. Early bird gets the worm. Get your camera and coffee and go sit on either of the porches. Or grab your chair and sit outside for the most beautiful show. Watch the ferry â›´ and hear the horn blow when they say goodbye to the island! Walk to the little and only island store and say hello to Lorie. Visit sandy Beach, the T warf, sandy point, potters cove and watch the sunset on the west side at sunset trail. Take a walk through the many trails and find kindness rocks. Explore the beaches for interesting treasures. Pick some rocks, bring some paint and leave some all over the island for other islanders or visitors to find. Join heard around the doc on Facebook. So you will know whats going on while your there. The home will have you feeling at home, and a lot like being a kid again yourself. Remember before you hit the hay, to try out that brand new outside shower. Have fun! You will love this place and the island it sits on.
