It was not a mess, but the idea that I have to pay an expensive cleaning fee on top of the nightly rate bothers me. Counters and tables where dusty, dishes where dirty, there were cobwebs in corners, and the bathroom (shower) was rather run down looking. Also, no fault of the owner, but because of either the septic system or the lake, the water from the faucet smelled like sewage.
I have never had a problem paying a cleaning fee on a listing, but I have also never stayed at a property that was so clearly neglected cleaning wise. The majority of silverware, plates, servers, etc we pulled to use had dried bits of food on them, the surfaces were so dusty it was clear they hadn’t been touched in quite a while, and there was a solid layer of dirt on a lot of things. When we messaged about the cleanliness of the food ware, the response I got back was that maybe I should run a load through the washer - if that’s the case then maybe we shouldn’t be paying a cleaning fee. It is a shame because it is an otherwise beautiful property in a beautiful location.
The house smells. The water smells. Filthy! Don't stay here, find another place.
This simple cottage is easy to reach and thoughtfully, practically furnished, with fans and ceiling fans, lots of comfortable seating, plenty of kitchenware, canoe and rowboat, etc. It has a large deck (a bit rickety) and firepit in the yard, both with beautiful views of Dragon Lake, especially at sunset. Wonderful peace and quiet, with lots of birdsong. Do bring your own drinking water. There are some important issues to be aware of before you make a reservation: Water access is EXTREMELY challenging: The short dock is surrounded by dense vegetation. You have to work your way through wide banks of lilypads and weeds about a foot below the surface in order to reach open water and swim or boat. It’s real work to get a boat out, and to swim out you need to use a float and paddle or pull yourself along on the weeds. The dock has no ladder, and getting back in from a swim is even more of an adventure. If you don’t succeed in heaving yourself a couple of feet up onto the dock on the first try and lose your float, you end up plunged into vegetation and muck well above your knees. Several of us earned the title of “Swamp Monster” every time we went out. All of this makes the circumstances UNSUITABLE for children under around 12, pets, and anyone with physical challenges. The rental agency Evolve’s pricing is a (click)bait-and-switch: The nightly rate first presented does not include hundreds of dollars of taxes and assorted fees including a nonrefundable damage charge, which appear when you reach the point of making a reservation. When these charges were added in, the total for our four-night stay amounted to 150% of the amount first quoted. The so-called “full refund” policy also turns out to be no such thing when you read the fine print. Evolve was unresponsive to e-mails, although the individual contact provided a few days before the rental was very pleasant and helpful. We had a very happy family visit here. To make this place a real gem, I would strongly urge the property owner to repair the deck, extend the dock out to open water, install a ladder on the dock, and find a rental agency with more transparent pricing and better customer service.
Great
1 the master bed was horrible Hard and noisy 2 the property was old and not ready for guests 3 there was no tv except Netflix although tv and broadcast antennas were present Two slider screen doors came off track The deck required cleaning 7 furniture was old and sitting chairs were typically dr office style 8 we were required to make or own beds due to Covid ? While comforters were dirty That said not enough blankets with out comforter In general not ready for guests
The location is absolutely great! Walking out the back door to such a peaceful and beautiful view!!! If I come back to the area, 200% chance I will look for this property first.
Property was anything but clean. Poop on the toilet seat, black mold in the shower. Enough said.
Great location with a beautiful view!
the pictures were taken years before obviously. the lily pads were so thick and out past the dock so i could not enjoy the water with the dogs like I had planned so that was a disappointing. The place is super cute but definitely could use some TLC.
Great time with friends
