Why stay at Fern Grotto Inn The reasons are as numerous as our glowing guest reviews. In fact, Fern Grotto Inn recently became the best-rated vacation rental and was featured in Lonely Planet—all thanks to our warm hospitality, prime location, and super cute plantation cottages.

One of the best parts about Fern Grotto Inn is our central location. Why limit yourself to Princeville or Poipu, when you can stay with us and easily drive to both the North and South Shores within 45 minutes

For a little outdoor fun, check out our COMPLIMENTARY two-person KAYAK, SUPs and “his and her” BIKES. The coastal bike trail is only one block from Fern Grotto Inn, and we’re conveniently located right on the Wailua River and of course, there’s plenty to do locally—we’re only one block from the pristine swimming beach at Lydgate Park, and Kapaa’s many stores and restaurants are just a few miles away.

The real attraction of Fern Grotto Inn is our secluded, vintage plantation cottages. Originally constructed in the 1940s and 1950s, All our cottages have been fully renovated with your comfort in mind while still retaining their authentic Hawaiian charm. We've outfitted each one with chic but cozy island-inspired decor.

Our cottages are surrounded by a lush, tropical garden, which, combined with the fact that our property is very quiet and private, creates the feeling that you’re in old-time Hawaii, far from civilization. It’s the perfect setting for your honeymoon or other romantic getaway.

Here’s a brief description of Garden cottage. For more information and pictures, please visit Fern Grotto Inn website.

My husband and I stayed in Kauai for 4 nights and could not have picked a better place to stay! We stayed at the canal cottage. Paul keeps a well maintained property and our cottage was clean and very tidy. It was spacious, well stocked with all the kitchen gadgets you could need, the beds were so comfortable and the best part was two full bathrooms! Paul and his wife are wonderful hosts; they attended to every detail from bed linens and towels to beach supplies and laundry facilities. The grounds were very private and we felt like we were at home. The bbq grill was great to have to have the option to dine in. Paul's wife also makes homemade indian dishes that you can order. Unfortunately we did not have a chance to try it but I am sure it would have been wonderful! Our only wish is that we could have stayed longer! The location is absolutely perfect... right in the middle of the east coast of the island makes the drive north or south easy. I would not want to stay in any other location. If you are looking for a private, comfortable and relaxing vacation retreat, I am sure you will find one of the cottages the place to be.

The stay at the Fern Grotto Inn was very pleasant. The hosts were very nice, and I can't think of a single complaint (except the roosters showing off at 3 am - but that's part of Kauai's charm!). What we really liked: hosts provided beach accessories to their guests, nice spacious shower, really decent kitchenette and bed was comfortable. It was a perfect spot for us to stay - close to everything (centrally located), and had everything two active people (who like to hike/swim/climb/kayak/insert whatever else will get you bruised and dirty here) might need during vacation (including washer/dryer available for use - that was a HUGE plus). Overall highly recommended, I know we will be back for more :)

My husband and I stayed in the Garden cottage for our honeymoon. We enjoyed out time in the spacious studio cottage. We used the bbq to cook dinner right outside and appreciated being able to borrow and ice chest and beach mats. Thank you for the great hospitatlity.

From the moment we walked in the door of the Garden cottage we knew that we wouldn't want to leave. The Fern Grotto Inn is one of the most unique accomodations we have experienced. It was refreshing to stay in a local run place where they understand what their island has to offer and what the guests will need while staying there. Such a pleasure.

We stayed in the Garden Cottage in early May, 2008, during our first trip to Kauai. We love the outdoors and the Fern Grotto Inn was the perfect home base for all our adventures, from Kokee to Ke'e. We loved the new expansive shower, the comfortable bed, and the peaceful setting. Paul and Nausheen were wonderful hosts and made our visit so easy with late checkout for our 8 pm flight (we actually got to hike, snorkel, shower, go to dinner, then go to the airport!), and the well-accoutered Cottage. They anticipated our needs and provided items to make our visit more enjoyable and convenient (like the beach chairs, bottled water and cooler). We also really appreciated the outdoor hose and shower to rinse our diving and snorkeling gear. To top it all off, Paul helped us get our boarding passes printed for our return flight, relieving some of that last-minute airport stress. It was an indescribable trip, and the Garden Cottage was just what we needed. Thank you!

My husband and I stayed in the garden cottage in march. We were delighted with it. First and very important to us was the fact that it was scrupulously clean The decor was warm and cozy with nice little touches like the shells on the corner shelves. It also was very well stocked with everyday stuff that would have been a pain to have to buy, paper towels, soap, shampoo. We also loved having the beach mats to use.The location was great, halfway between north and south activities. Oh, and how many places can you use the laundry facilities for free? She even supplied the detergents! The next time we come (hopefully soon)maybe we'll bring friends and rent the larger unit.I did a lot of research on accomodations before we went to Kauai and believe me these cottages are priced very reasonably if your looking for a quiet private piece of paradise Mahalo to Paul and Nausheen
