The Old King’s Head, which was formerly an 18th century inn, is a delightful, spacious cottage providing comfortable accommodation to suit all families and couples. It is perfectly positioned in a quiet courtyard only 50 yards from the centre of the picturesque market town of Pickering and overlooking a tranquil churchyard. The peaceful location is broken only by the chiming of the church clock. It has been decorated and furnished to a high standard and the wood burning stoves gives a welcoming, cosy feel to the property. It is in an ideal location for exploring the North York Moors with some excellent walking and cycle paths close by, including some challenging cycle tracks in the nearby Dalby forest, which is a great day out and has a Go Ape assault course, which is ideal for all ages to enjoy.

Free WiFi

We find that light sleepers may prefer the twin room to the attic as the church clock chimes can be heard at the rear of the house.

We had a wonderful holiday at the Old King's Head, with our six children. The house was interesting, had character, and was very well furnished with great style. It was also spacious and very well supplied with everything you'd need for a family holiday, especially in winter, when you may need to spend more time inside than outside. The location is excellent too. We were able to let the older children go into the town with their pocket money, as everything was basically on our doorstep, yet somehow it still felt private and secluded because of the courtyard and the churchyard next door. So it was a great balance of privacy and proximity. We also liked hearing the church bells chime; it was quaint and appropriately evocative of English town heritage itself.Of course, the proximity to great walks and outings to incredible places like Whitby or Thirsk was much appreciated, too. There is more than enough to do, and the house was a lovely, comfortable, and spacious place to come back to each day, and to relax in throughout the evening. Meals in the large farmhouse-style kitchen were memorable, and the games room was also a wonderful bonus which was generously stocked with all sorts of fun and equipment - much appreciated by the children!Would highly recommend this property, it's a real treasure.
