Town: Keighley, a prominent market town in West Yorkshire, is located in the Aire Valley, close to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The wool and cotton industries grew the town, which was recorded in the Domesday Book, during the 18th and 19th centuries. Keighley now has a shopping mall, bars, takeaways, and restaurants, as well as two retail parks on the outskirts of town, and the Keighley and Worth Valley Light Railway, which was made famous by the 1970s film The Railway Children, runs for five miles through the town to Oxenhope. The lovely 17th century National Trust East Riddlesden Hall is just one mile out of town, while the village of Haworth, made famous as the home of the Bronte sisters, is only four miles distant. Cobblestone streets, charming shops, and the Bronte Parsonage Museum may all be found in the village. The market town of Skipton is nearby, as is the picturesque Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the city of York and charming Harrogate are both within driving distance. A fantastic base from which to visit much of Yorkshire.
