Atascadero, California
Welcome! This charming 1920's 2 bedroom 1 bath Craftsman style home is located on one acre and less than 2 miles from the heart of Atascadero.
You can travel in any direction and explore some great places in SLO County. There is Paso Robles Wine country, Paso Robles Event Center with the Mid-State Fair and Lake Nacimiento to the north, to the east there is the Carizzo Plains National Monument, to the west there is Morro Bay, Cayucos and the Pacific Ocean, to the North West there is Cambria, San Simeon including scenic Hwy 1, and to the south there is quaint Santa Margarita and Santa Margarita Lake, San Luis Obispo, Grover and Pismo Beach. San Luis Obispo County also boasts the Los Padres National Forest with plenty of hiking trails that can be accessed near Atascadero.
The Cottage was simply built in the 1920's and updated with function in mind. It is one of the original Colony homes in Atascadero. It is well suited for four people. It has a front porch with rockers that you can enjoy the evenings on...even take your meal there. There are two bedrooms; one with a queen size bed and the other with a double bed. Both have a dresser and a closet in their rooms. A full size oven and stove, microwave, dishwasher and full size refrigerator are provided in the kitchen. The bathroom is equipped with a shower/tub combination and a heater for your comfort. There is a BBQ in the back yard that is stored in the shed near the house, and a table and chairs for outdoor use. There are a number of oak trees on the property which gives the front yard a park like setting. Deer meander through the yard each evening and you might even see a turkey every now and then. Walk the 'San Clemente loop' and enjoy the diverse architecture of homes and landscaping along the route.
Interesting points of Atascadero: There is fabulous weather. The average high in the summer is 90 degrees, low is 56. The winter highs are 62 and lows are 37. The summers can be gorgeous with warm days and evenings. There is a great park and lake where you can rent paddle boats, canoes, feed the ducks or have a family gathering and rent BBQ pits. Located near the park is the Charles Paddock Zoo. Atascadero hosts many events such as wine tasting, Christmas in the Park and other holiday events each weekend in December, and a summer concert series. We hope you enjoy your stay here.
The cottage was very clean, filled with enough supplies and it has a spacious kitchen. The host was very sweet, and accommodating. We totally enjoyed our stay!
Peaceful, well maintained, quaint. We all enjoyed this home!
When to town for a car show Definitely will stay again next time in town Love to see the Deer in the afternoon
The furnishings were dated and the yard had lots of leavings from the dog but overall, the space both inside and out was so restful.
This was exactly the place for a peaceful retreat that my husband and I were looking for for our vacation. We could tell when we saw the front porch and rocking chairs that it was made for us. We stayed a week and are happy to be home. We will have fond memories of this cottage for many years to come.
The Colony Cottage is a favorite. We've been many times and are always delighted with our time in the area. Tranquil, yet near Paso, SLO, and Morro Bay. Donna is an excellent host.
Great. Very nice house.
This was a nice and clean property with a classic look. Especially loved the front porch. Wish it was a bit warmer so we could sit out and enjoy it more. Just the luck of the draw. It was located in a nice central area close to the coastal area as well as a plethora of wineries. Hosts were very accommodating and responsive Very easy to work with. Would book again if available and we are in the area.
If you want to go to a comfortable place, this is your choice. Everything in the cottage was very clean. The kitchen was marvelous. Donna is an exceptional host.
When we pulled up to the property it was night time and there was no lights on. The next door neighbors dogs were out and charged our car when we got there. Although they turned out to be very nice dogs it was scary as my wife was just a victim of a dog attack a few weeks prior. The space worked out well for the four of us. Bringing an air mattress did help us.
It was affordable, comfortable, with everything we needed for our “home base “while in the area for an event.
The Colony Cottage is delightful. We've stayed multiple times. Excellent hiking, wineries, Morro Bay, Elephant seals above Sant Simeon, Hearst Castle, and so much more are all within easy reach. Deer in the back yard and neighborhood, goats, puppies, everything that we need to feel like we escaped the city are abundant. There were several very hot days, yet the cottage stayed cool without air conditioning. The host, Donna, is attentive to any questions and needs. I can't recommend the cottage enough (except I kind of want to keep it a secret!).
The house is full of charm and history. Truly one of the original houses built here. It really is much nicer than the photos. The kitchen is fully equipped and the beds were very comfortable. It also stayed anazingly cool, even when temperatures were reaching towards the 100 mark. It is the perfect spot to enjoy hiking from the front door all the way to Harmony, Moro Bay, San Louis Obispo … We will definitely return!
The location and cleanliness of the property was excellent. Overall a great experience for us. Minor setback was loss of electricity on the morning of departure, but not a huge issue. We loved the place. Would definitely recommend it.
