Spacious cottage on an estate where peace, privacy, fun and exploration abound

We felt at home the moment we walked in Abbotsway. It was comfortable and cosy with everything you could need for a great stay. Everything was super clean and tidy. The grounds were so well tended and the walk through the gardens to the shoreline a real treat with red squirrels, hares, deer and birdlife around. Location was great and good information provided for exploring the area with coastline and forests nearby.

Abbotsway Cottage is comfortable, spotlessly clean and thoughtfully equipped. The location is great, quiet and tranquil yet within reach of a wonderful community shop/cafe at Auchencairn and the lovely town of Kirkcudbright. We enjoyed nature on our doorstep and cosy evenings by the woodburner after days out. I couldn't fault anything. Thank you.

The cottage was so nice - clean and tastefully furnished, spacious and comfortable. Well equipped kitchen & nice welcome goodies of tea, coffee, milk & a tasty cake! Hand wash, washing up liquid, foil, clingfilm, shampoo & body wash all provided too! The dog welcome basket was brilliant, with bowls, towels, treats, first aid kit, tick removers, poo bags & dog tags for their stay! The dogs enjoyed exploring the enclosed courtyard & soaking up the sun. The gardens & fields surrounding the cottage gave us wonderful views of red squirrel, hares and deer, plus the many garden birds on the feeders daily. Great walks around the estate and surrounding area straight from the door. The gardens & beach both lovely to walk to/around. We caught seabass, mackerel, pollock & wrasse from the shore and saw seals and porpoise too. Galloway Forest is an hour away with many interesting places to visit. Lots of Red Kite to spot but the wildlife highlights for us was seeing golden eagles & pine martins! A special thanks to the gardener, who gave us some great wildlife spotting tips! All in all, a fantastic holiday in a stunning place! We will definitely return :)

Beautiful cottage, immaculately decorated and very well equipped. The enclosed courtyard is great for the dogs. The grounds are stunning and very peaceful. Lots of wildlife to watch - deer, hares, red squirrels and numerous birds. Highly recommend it. 10/10

If you are looking for peace & quiet, then this is the place for you, and you can enjoy the wonderful countryside and local animal population. Seeing the red squirrel was the highlight of our week! The cottage is great, very high spec, everything works, and it is clean and beautiful, the decor is lovely. The only thing I personally would have preferred is the front garden to be fenced, the view from the front garden was beautiful, and for us, it would have been nicer to relax totally, with the dogs with us, and not have to worry about them bolting after a pheasant or two that just wonder into the garden. Saying that, this is only a very minor point, as it's the only negative to a very pleasant stay. (I marked the value for money a 4 because it is expensive, and I've stayed in cottages of the same standard for less money; however, because of the beautiful private estate, I believe it was worth the money)

Abbotsway Cottage is a home-from-home experience that is just gorgeous in its location, layout, cleanliness, and offering. We stayed over the Easter weekend for a week and were greeted after a long drive with a lovely little welcome tray, fresh milk, and yummy homemade brownies. Everything was thought of for the house and what we could use or need during our stay. The location was perfect and central to visiting places in the area. Orroland as an estate is stunning and so lovely that the owners want to share their estate with their guests. The wildlife on the estate is varied - we had a few firsts… squirrels, eared legged partridges, and nuthatches! Would highly recommended Orroland and Abbotsway Cottage - well definitely be returning!

Very enjoyable, despite last day weather ! V well equipped, v clean, great location. (a fire glove would help as difficult to just use the tongs with the logs - just a small point, in no way a criticism)

Perfect in every way. The cottage is beautifully decorated, very comfortable and extremely well equipped. The enclosed courtyard is perfect for the dogs to go out in securely. The grounds of Orroland are stunning with lots of places to explore. It truly is a magical place.

Fantastic cottage in a great location, the cottage was really clean and had everything you need for a break away from the hustle and bustle. Lots of wildlife around the cottage and great walks in the areas also. Would definitely recommend and will be returning as well as we had a great time.

excellent property very secluded and private and very relaxing everything and more than you want. even a back up generator if the power fails. absolutely no complaints.

We absolutely loved our stay here , it’s such a magical place I’ve never stayed anywhere quite like it before. The owners have thought of everything, the cottage is so well equipped. It’s super dog friendly, the dogs even get a welcome pack with dogs tags in it such a lovely touch . We shared with friends it was perfect as the bedrooms are in separate wings of the house and having 2 bathrooms was ideal. I will definitely return to Orroland it’s a hidden gem, we always holiday in Dumfries and Galloway and had no idea about this place !

Abbotsway cottage is gorgeous! Fantastically equipped, clean, comfortable, and cozy. It’s amazingly dog friendly, the wonderful hosts have thought of absolutely. We had a small problem with the ev charger and the hosts did absolutely everything to help. We had a wonderful, relaxing stay. Cannot recommend this property highly enough.

We stayed here with our reactive dog and we had a great time. Lots of wildlife to watch from the windows, access to long walks and a house that was a home away from home. Such a peaceful and quiet location and so picturesque! We will be definitely be back.

This was the 3rd time we've stayed at Abbotsway Cottage, 4th time at Orroland The Cottage is always immaculate and is so well equipped, it has everything we need. It's beautifully decorated and very comfortable. It's so peaceful and totally relaxing. The secure courtyard is great for the dogs to wander about in and the bbq was appreciated. The welcome pack for us and the dogs was lovely and the dog tags were a brilliant idea. We've loved staying here and watching the deer, hares, red squirrels and all the birds. Zorro was very happy to be back at Zorroland, he and Breagh loved the window seat (we put a cover on it) and enjoyed their walks round Zorro's kingdom. We've booked again already. Thank you

High standard of accomodation from bedding to bathrooms - well equipped kitchen - spotless clean - efficient wood burner - great wildlife from window too! Welcome to walk around the landscaped garden of lake, summer house, wild flower meadow - beautiful & serene - as part of the private estate and access to rocky shore on Solway. Would recommend for a quiet getaway - though local stores only 10 mins away.
