Stayed Oct 10, 2025Good morning! We had a very pleasant weekend with some hiccups. The retreat was just what we needed. WE are a family that enjoys quiet, access to the water, kayaking and sitting around the outside fire in the evening, gazing at the stars. I suggest bed side lamps. the screen door was loose on the door leading from the kitchen to the deck, i had to buy tea light candles to light the steps going up to the entry door.. I was surprised to see the bedroom adjacent to the games room. It was listed an an upstairs bedroom, needs heat in there for sure. We made excellent use of the kitchen for our meals, pantry space was very adequate. Do supply a potato masher for the potatoes. Dishwashwe washer was so nice to be able to use. Feeding ten people three times a day was a treat for easy dish and cutlery washing. Nice to have lots of pans. The gift was very much welcoming and appreciated. We were a ble to warm up two of the bedrooms, had to heat the kitchen with the stove oven in the morning to ease the morning chill/. Other then that we enjoyed it. Extra seating in the living room area is needed. I notice in the picture the sofa in the games room was pictured being in the upstairs living room. We certainly enjoyed the deck adjacent to the kitchen for extra seating. God willing we will be back. Thank you so much! We certainly mwill try and be back next Octoberg

Stayed Sep 12, 2025We enjoyed the place overall. Couple minor things we didn't like: * the floor was dirty/dusty when we came in (not like garbage were left on the floor, just dust and needed mopping... we mopped it). * the garbage/recycling bin outside was full when we arrived, no space for our bags to be thrown in * there was no thermostat control (I understand not having a full control but having control over couple degrees would have helped as the temperature fluctuates a lot during this time of the year) * no dish-soap/cleaning spung/scrubber at the place, but did have dishwasher with adequate tabs of detergents Place was nice otherwise, it was easy and convenient to interact with people renting it out, were very quick to respond as well. Definitely somewhere we can come back to if going to that area.

Stayed Jul 28, 2025The team from grey bruce were super helpfull and nice. Answered all my questions promptly. I was disappointed in the shape we found the house in. Felt dirty and run down. We had a great time and the location is amazing, but for 2500 dollars for 3 nights I expected more. Its a nice cottage with a probably great history but the overall feel from the start was this place needs work done. Empty nails in the walls dirty doors a railing thatwas wobbly on the back deck just made me think about what this place could look like when someone cares about it. Even though we had a great stay I probably wouldnt come back. The price was to high for what it was.

Stayed Jul 16, 2025We stayed at the cottage at 214 Dorcas Bay Road from July 16th to July 19th as a group of nine guests. While the location is scenic and peaceful, the actual condition of the cottage was far from what the listing photos and previous reviews portrayed. Here are the issues we encountered: There are two main washrooms, but one had no working lights, making it nearly unusable. With nine guests, we were left sharing a single main washroom and a small powder room. Most electrical outlets in the bedrooms and living area were non-functional, forcing everyone to rely on just a couple of working outlets throughout the cottage. The basement staircase was unstable and wobbly, posing a serious safety hazard — especially for children and seniors. Several of the steps appeared damaged. When we arrived, we found water spilled across the basement hallway floor, and none of the outlets in the basement were working. There was only one working flycatcher in the house — another one was broken. Worse, there was no proper insulation to prevent flies, mosquitoes, and bugs from entering, which became a constant issue during our stay. We tried contacting the property manager multiple times, but our calls went straight to voicemail. We eventually reached them via email. Although we were advised to switch the breakers, the issues persisted. These problems — especially the non-functioning washroom and widespread electrical failures — significantly impacted our comfort and experience. It’s disappointing that none of these issues were disclosed beforehand, and overall, the listing felt highly misleading. We hope this review helps future renters make an informed decision. The location is beautiful, but unless these issues are properly addressed, we cannot recommend this property.

Stayed Jun 2, 2025Beautiful property right on the lake and proximity to many local sights we went to photograph. The bbq was a little small for our group of six and oven mitts would have been handy but otherwise it came equiped with everything.

Stayed May 8, 2025Ample parking, bright family area, spacious kitchen ample bedrooms. Having 2.5 baths make it easier for the whole family or groups of 5 to share the space with ease.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969Overall a great vacation. We appreciated you getting us the lights. The issue was the mildew smell in the basement that made its way throughout the house when we first arrived. It would be nice to have lamps in the bedrooms and living rooms. The place felt well used and dingy. We thought the kitchen was well equipped and the patio off the kitchen was great for meals. Also loved the fire pit.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Whispering Waves. While the property and amenities were great, it was the quick responses and actions by the Grey Bruce team that really felt like we had concierge type service for our entire stay. Can't wait to be back!
