Sonoma, California
The cottage is a little gem that friends love to come stay in. The ceilings are vaulted and the main room includes a queen bed (adjustable Temper-pedic) that is set on a custom Ironies bed-frame. Across from the bed is a chic daybed with an animal-print ottoman.
There is a 65" TV with cable service plus all the major streaming services including HBO Max, Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+.
The kitchen includes an under-counter refrigerator, four-burner Viking range, sink and ample cabinetry. In the kitchen is also a closet with hangers and shelves for your clothing.
The bathroom includes a vanity with sink, toilet and bathtub with shower.
French doors lead from the great room to a semi-private terrace with bench seat, a table and two chairs as well as a lovely antique fountain that also serves as soothing sound. Beyond the fountain and bench is a seasonal creek. A rock wall with hedge provides privacy from the street. Note that there is no fencing between the yard in the back of the guest cottage and the seasonal creek which provides plenty of wildlife, especially deer.
The cottage is on the coveted east side of Sonoma - we are only two and a half blocks from the center of town - the Plaza. But, nicely, tourist parking does not extend to our property very often so it is much quieter than if closer to town.
There are so many historical neighborhoods on the east side with its renovated, and original, bungalows, that it is fun to go on walks throughout the neighborhood. But it's only a couple blocks before you're walking through vineyards, Sebastiani in particular. There is also a Bike Path that starts 3 blocks and weaves through vineyards and in-town scenery for about 2 miles and it's all flat.
Within a 15-minute walk:
- The Plaza and all the darling shops, wine tasting rooms, cafes and restaurants that surround the plaza perimeter.
- Bike/walking Path that traverses the town of Sonoma thru vineyards, meadows and in-town destinations. Walking is a passion for many Sonoma residents and traffic on country roads is usually light. We can let you know of specific vineyards you can walk thu.
- Grocery stores, including Sonoma Market (favorite), Whole Foods and Safeway
- Wineries, including Sebastiani, Buena Vista and Bartholomew Park plus 20+ winery tasting rooms around the Plaza.
Within a 30-minute drive:
- Top quality wineries such as Patz and Hall, Domaine Carneros & Chateau St. Jean
- The towns of Napa, Yountville, Petaluma and Santa Rosa
- Jack London Park in Glen Ellen (great hikes)
Within an hour’s drive:
- San Francisco, Sebastapol, Healdsburg, St. Helena, Calistoga, Bodega Bay, Pt. Reyes Station.
Car: You may wish to rent a car for your visit. Once you are in Sonoma, and if you plan to stay local, a car is not necessary. But if you want to explore various wineries in Sonoma and Napa Counties it is more cost-effective to do so than use Uber or Lyft.
Flying In:
- San Francisco (SFO): 1 1/2 hours away.
- Oakland (OAK); 1 1/4 hours away.
- Sacramento (SMF): 1 1/2 hours away.
- Santa Rosa (STS): 45 minutes away. Super-cute regional airport but with mostly smaller planes. The airport is named after Charles Schultz, creator of Peanuts and local celebrity (he has passed), and the airport includes many life-size Peanuts characters out front as well as inside the terminal.
