Janie and Allen were great. My husband and I stayed in their cottage for an extended work trip and ended up being much busier than anticipated. Janie and Allen made sure we always had what we needed and then some with our crazy schedules. So happy with the time we got to spend there! The cottage is beautiful. The river is peaceful. The hosts are 5 star.
We stayed at the villa for the month of February. Our intent was to get to know the New Braunfels area and decide if it was a place we could live. Our hosts at the villa helped make it an easy decision. They are excellent ambasadors for the region. They were very helpful in directing us to places to visit and explaining the local culture. Quite frankly, they were lots of fun! As for the cottage and setting, check out the other reviews. They are all true! This is a great place to rent for a vacation. The accommodations are special and the setting is great. We would have no hesitation in returning to Villa Sartain. Ciao! .
We thoroughly enjoyed our month long stay at the Villa Sartain. The cottage was charming - far more impressive and unique than the photos show. The location was convenient for all our New Braunfels and Hill Country explorations. There was so much to see and do in November, and the weather was a treat for two Oregonians. We particularly loved the warm welcome from our hosts, Janie and Allen, and how they continued to make us feel at home throughout the month.
My husband and I stayed in this lovely cottage for the weekend and we could not have asked for more. Janie, the owner has thought of everything and showed us the best hospitality! Her suggestions were spot on and her thoughtfulness made us feel welcome like we were visiting family. Beautiful bike ride into New Braunfels for coffee and farmers market. Great time in Greune, exploring true Texas (living in Dallas is not Texas). Highly recommend for couple's getaway, stay a week or a month and you will not regret it. Kayaking down the Comal River is refreshing and caught several nice bass.
I hate writing this review, because it can only result in more demand....and higher prices! Janie is an excellent hostess and the property is very, very nice. Old world charm and modern conveniences....what's not to like?? The owners were very thoughtful and left nothing to chance. Our 3 night stay was AWESOME and included a couple of surprise plates from Janie. By far, the cold plate of venison sausage/mustard/crackers was the BEST!! The Cottage is close to everything that New Braunfels has to offer, yet very private and relaxing. This is a most excellent place to spend a night or ten. Watch out for Ceazar 2....he might lick your leg!!
Our very first visit to Texas, was an extremely enjoyable one. The cottage on the Comal is a unique, wonderful place to stay. We enjoyed meeting with and learning about the area from our outstanding hosts, Jamie and Allen. The village of New Braunfels has so much to offer; sightseeing, restauants, and nearby attractions, etc. The cottage was ideally located, had everything we needed to be comfortable, and what a view! We fell in love with the cottage and the area. It's like stepping into Tuscany. Kayaking right from the waterfront property, in the Comal Springs was so much fun. The scenery is breathtaking, and water is crystal clear. Enjoyed our morning coffee on the screened porch overlooking the town, and at night we could see the lights below, and the stars above. So many things to see and do close by. Very thankful to have discovered this hidden gem. The owners are so nice, very thoughtful, and sensitive to your privacy. This was one of our best vacations ever. You'll feel right at home here. Very highly reccommended !
We have stayed here two times now and love it! First of all, the cottage itself: charming and comfy, with a great screened-in porch for lazing and enjoying the amazing setting. The kitchen is well-equipped. So we stocked up at the nearby grocery and made our dinner many of the nights we stayed. The hosts have put together a very thoughtful guide to the area, with good recommendations for restaurants, date nights, etc. For those who like to get away but still want to stay somewhat plugged in, there is wifi access and a very nice television and DVD player. Second of all, the setting: breath-taking. The whole property looks like a Tuscan landscape, with elegant cypress trees, hedges, and sun-baked stones. The cottage has private access to a quiet stretch of the Comal River, with several terraced seating areas, inner tubes, kayaks, grills, and beautiful oleanders framing the waterfront. We got up one morning to kayak down to New Braunfels' Landa Park and pretty much had the cool, clear river to ourselves. During our stay, we saw all kinds of wildlife: waterbirds on the Comal, cardinals in the trees, and many deer roaming peacefully through...well, pretty much everywhere. For city-dwellers and animal lovers like us, it was pretty exciting! Last of all, our hosts: their hospitality is just right. If you want to make interesting new friends (which we always do), you will. They are happy to suggest things like great local music venues, and they are so engaging to chat with. We found we had a lot in common, and it really added a happy personal touch to our vacation. But, if you just want to get away from it all and do your thing, you will also find this the perfect place for peace and quiet, rest and relaxation. We love to travel and have visited a fair number of places. New Braunfels is just an hour away from us, but I say, with no reservations, that the cottage here feels like a true getaway and will remain one of our favorite spots. I hope many others will be able to enjoy this haven; it is such a delight.
I had visited this beautiful, serene location once before with a dear friend. She ended up passing and that vacation was our last memory together. A wonderful one! I sought out to visit again last spring, and made new memories. I hope to return yet again this year. The calm river, peace, beautiful landscaping, hospitality, and great location. It holds such a special place in my heart!
To escape the cold winter of North Idaho we rented the lovely cottage on Comal Springs for 2 months during Dec-Jan. 2012-13. It was truly one of our best vacations! The cottage is cozy, quiet, very clean and comfortable, a perfect getaway, an excellent escape from the business of the world! Even though we are seniors, we found the accommodations perfect for us; however someone with some physical limitations might find all the steps challenging. There are 12 very wide concrete steps leading to the cottage and more than 80 steps leading down to the water's edge. I might add that there is a wonderful view of the water from the cottage windows. The outside terrace is perfect for grilling or for just having coffee in the morning! We actually read a couple of books and sipped wine on the terrace! The hosts are friendly, hospitable and very helpful. There are so many wonderful restaurants in the area. We sampled several of them and found them all very good. We particularly enjoyed the historic village of Gruene which is nearby. We plan to come back again and highly recommend it.
