It is a tradition in Florida to throw up a fisherman's shack in the back yard for guests and annoying relatives. That's how Susie's Cottage began, many years ago. And the funky construction quirks of the original can still be seen in today's renovated version. Don't expect the walls to be plumb or the layout to make sense! But paint and funky furnishings have done wonders. A/C, ceiling fans, full kitchen, and a cute (but very small!!!) bathroom (shower only). The cottage is the February retreat of Susie, my sister, a retired opera singer (she painted the heron bathroom door). Off season (April through January), it is available to vacationers who want privacy and some Old Florida charm.
My street is a short, unpaved road off Stringfellow Rd. ("the" road on Pine Island, which runs 18 miles from north to south. The Cottage is at the back of the property, behind the main house and separated from it by a trellis upon which Carolina jessamine grows. Guests have sole occupancy of the cottage, including the little lanai and the secret back deck, as well as a parking space. My goal is to make you feel that Susie's Old-Florida Cottage is your home during your stay.
Susie's Cottage is tucked in behind Seagrape Escape (the park-model trailer where I live in winter. It is invisible from the road. Gail, my manager, lives a few streets away and is there to help you should you have questions or run into problems. The garden comes every other Sunday.
This was our first time in this side of Florida and it was a great surprise to discover this beautiful area surrounded by history. A door to discover the old Florida. The cottage is well equipped, very quaint and comfortable. Great location to visit Pine Island, Sanibel Island, Fort Meyers and much more.
Very quant and comfortable. Will use again if we return to Pine Island.
The description of the cottage is spot on…brought back memories of being in Florida in the 60’s. I enjoyed my stay, simple and relaxing. I will return!
Quirky, quaint, colorful and comfortable. Private getaway on a unique island. It was perfect for me and the 2nd time I have stayed here. Lovely inside and out if you are looking for a quiet place to drink coffee and read books. Cozy little outdoor spaces to sit and visit with a friend. Convenient to places I wanted to visit. Close to grocery stores and restaurants yet secluded in tropical gardens.
It was a pleasure to stay at this home it worked perfect for my vacation getaway
We really enjoyed our overnight stay at this lovely spot. The host was great to communicate with and provided excellent, timely instructions for finding the cottage. Bed is extremely comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. Garden is fabulous and having morning coffee in the lanai was a real treat. This place offers a different experience from the usual modern holiday condo. Very quiet, comfortable, private; lots of colour and art, and tons of charm. Would love to go back again.
Cute, clean cottage with beautiful flowers and The hostess was very nice.
This place has very dear grandma cottage vibes. The bed is incredibly comfy. Make sure you’re comfortable with your travel partner because the sliding door to the bathroom does not reach the ceiling.
Property was just as advertised. Nothing fancy, just clean and comfortable for a couple. Perfect location in the center of the island. Quiet and pleasant. The owner was charming and very helpful.
This is a cute little cottage located in the middle of Pine Island. If you're looking for a place to settle in and relax this is your place. The patio area is the perfect place to sit and watch the Osprey nest right outside. There's also a beautiful garden area to sit in. The property owner is your neighbor so if you have any questions she's available to answer them. Right now the area is still recovering from the hurricane that hit last year so tourism isn't back up but there is a grocery store available for any needs you have and the mainland isn't that far away. We will definitely keep this little cottage on our list for a return visit.
Susie's Cottage was just what my husband and I needed for a 2 night stay while visiting my parents on Pine Island. Ellen was so friendly and the cottage was cute and the bed was great! We would stay here again!
Ellen was very nice friendly and helpful we will stay here again
A delightful little cottage full of quaint little surprises. A wonderful shower, lani and comfy couch to watch tv. Ellen was a delight.
Absolutely love this little cottage, very quiet and relaxing place. Easy parking Looking forward to coming back again
It was FANTASTIC.
This place was the perfect retreat for my husband and I. We spent most of our time outdoors exploring the natural charm and beauty of the surrounding area: the nature preserves, watching the sunset off the pier, the tropical fruit farms (oh, and it's a great place for paddle-boarding!) The locals are super nice and happy to help you enjoy your time on the island. The accommodations are surrounded by a variety of plants and flowers that invite you to come in and explore. I really enjoyed the abundance of nature outside our cottage. The cottage was clean and pest-free, and our host did a good job of communicating with us about the property and its story. The cottage does have all the amenities you need, such as AC, refrigerator, kitchenette, TV, and WiFi. But the overall vibe of Pine Island makes it very easy to unplug and just appreciate the simple things in life. When life gets too hectic again, and I need some time for self-care and/or to reconnect with my husband, this place is one I would love to come back to.
My husband and I just got home to Atlanta after visiting Pine Island and staying in Ellen‘s cozy little cottage. All the important things were met especially the great working air conditioning, the water pressure in the shower and the comfortable bed and bedding. We did not spend much time there as we explored the island and rented a boat for the day on our two day visit… But it was everything we needed private and cozy. We will definitely return.
Very nice property. Very quite and peaceful. Would definitely stay again
We enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage was perfect size for the 2 of us. It was very relaxing and comfortable. The yard felt very tropical with all the flowering vines and plants. The community pool (about 1/2 mile away) was spacious and clean and very affordable ($2-$3 a person). The pictures on the web does show cottage accurately. We met the owner, Ellen, who was very friendly & helpful with any concerns. We hope to be able to return again in the future.
