Stayed Mar 6, 2025Located on the QUIET side of the island. Lovely. Don’t necessarily stay here if you love Cruz Bay but we hate Cruz Bay so this was perfect for us. This is not a negative but the bed is slightly difficult to maneuver if you are old or have knee/back problems, etc. And ceiling so low over bed, there can’t be a ceiling fan. There is air conditioning but we never had to use it. The kitchen is reasonably sparse but adequate for basic cooking. Total peace and quiet and a fabulous view.

Stayed Jan 19, 2025Very cool little property, with a great view! This is located in a very quiet part of the island, while you certainly are out there you can easily be clear back to Cruz Bay in 20 minutes. Definitely ideal for two people, and with the shower set up and glass bathroom door, you should be very comfortable with the other person, We found the hot water to be a little limited, it tended to run short at the end of a fairly brief shower, but not terrible it is 80 most days on the island. AC is limited to the bedroom. But on most days there is enough breeze there that we didn't care. Definitely not ideal if mobility is limited as there are several flights of stairs in the property. Several excellent restaurants within 5 minutes driving in Coral Bay, and there is an awesome boat charter, FlyAway, that is in Coral as well. All in all we would absolutely repeat if we are back this way again!!

Stayed Nov 24, 2024Wow, what a view! This is our 6th trip to St. John and we have rented a home each time but the view from Sugar Bird topped them all. Sitting on the deck each morning watching the sun rise over the islands of the BVI was wonderful. The cottage as described is cozy but met our needs. The galley kitchen had all the necessary accessories for meal preparation and the deck on the grill was handy. We love the location for quick trips to Salt Pond and hiking Rams Head. If you don't like stairs you should avoid the property as it is a bit of climb back to the parking area and the bedroom on the lower level also requires outdoor stairs to access. The unique platform bed affords wonderful views of the islands but also is more of a challenge than a normal bed for those middle of the night trips to the bathroom. Both the host and the on island property manager were available and responsive. We loved our stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Stayed Apr 6, 2024The place is small and there are a lot of stairs! But the views are stunning and there is everything you need for cooking basic meals, outdoor sunbathing, open air showers, and a very complete guide for things to do and places to go on the Coral Bay end of the island. The bedroom is a bit awkward with the bed up several uneven steps, but it's quite comfortable. Overall a great stay!

Stayed Feb 24, 2024We had a lovely week here! The views were amazing and we enjoyed the privacy. We had everything we needed and loved being away from it all. We didn't mind the (sometimes precarious) drive from Coral Bay and the Cruz Bay on the busier side of the island. Well worth it in exchange for your own private paradise. Parking was a bit of a challenge, especially when the neighboring guest didn't park in a way that allowed us to use the turnaround area. Outside of that, it was perfect for what we wanted!

Stayed Dec 10, 2023We loved our time at sugar bird cottage. We were there on our honeymoon and the location, view, and vibe of the house was outstanding. Jennifer was extremely helpful and prompt in answering all of our questions about the island and local places to eat or shop. The beaches were all pristine and easy to access. It was an amazing time and we’d highly recommend it!

Stayed Oct 31, 2023This rental is exactly as represented on the website. The views are among the best on St. John. Directions to get there are excellent and it is convenient to stores and restaurants in Coral Bay and 5 minutes from Salt Pond. Owner and manager were very responsive for the few issues we had. I'm very conflicted on this review. While it was a nice place with a real treehouse vibe, there are some things to consider. First, this house is in the jungle. At times breezes are limited. Because the jungle is constantly so wet, the mosquitos are insane. The only time we could enjoy the 3 decks was in the mornings. Even with some breeze, they were thick. I think I counted 36 bites on my legs and feet. Obviously the owners can't control that, but you should know. The decks are the main reason we rented this place but they were hard to use especially toward sunset. Had we been directly on the coast, it probably wouldn't have been an issue. Also, there were many little things that the owners and manager need to give attention to. Ripped screen in shower, broken crank in bedroom that affects a/c. Pans too big to fit in oven. Property has many single step downs that you have to remember, especially in the bedroom. Internet was spotty for both of us. Worked great when it worked. Overall a very nice property, but not as nice as some we have stayed at.
