Sonja made out first trip to Antigua the best experience. Right from the start she was always available on What’s App to answer any of our questions. I strongly recommend using her arrival service. We were met by Joseph as soon as we stepped out of the airport. He took us to get our driver’s permit and a stop to pick up necessities at the local grocery story on our travel to Pinkshacktoo. Our accommodations were clean and exactly what we needed for a home base. We took advantage of Sonja’s offer of a rental vehicle which she had at the ready. You are a 5 minute drive from St. John’s so we recommend the vehicle. The islanders are lovely people and with 365 beaches there is always something to explore. We will definitely be back to visit Sonja. Thank you for making this trip fantastic.

It was a pleasant stay and a friendly host, it was a little in the middle of nowhere but luckily we rented the car, otherwise a little tough to go around

We spent two weeks at Pinkshacktoo in early March. Sonja has created a hidden gem in a quiet town just fifteen minutes drive from St. Johns. The cottage is basic but completely sufficient. We appreciated being able to cook there or to get local takeout (Friday nights from the woman who cooks Fridays and Saturday nights from her sister, who cooks Saturdays). Although we explored quite a few beaches, our daily favorite was Deep Bay, the nearest, just a few minutes drive away. Sonja is an energetic gem. Her initial driving tour acquainted us with the island. Her suggestions for excursions, or just for the best roadside local food helped turn our vacation into a true exploration of Antigua. It is a fascinating island with loads of all inclusives and daily cruise ships. Sonja and Pinkshacktoo helped us avoid that aspect of Antigua and led us to a more intimate island experience. Keep in mind that she is located in the countryside in a neighborhood with lots of barking dogs, braying donkeys and roosting roosters. Once we learned to close our windows at night we slept much better. Renting a jeep from Sonja is almost a necessity, as is a brave heart and iron will to drive on Antigua. Well worth it, though.

Sonja has built an oasis of palms and other native foliage in her garden, and also managed to fit in about half a dozen holiday homes. The property is fairly remote so jeep hire is recommended. There are shared laundry facilities. We heard no one and were completely undisturbed for our 9 nights there. She has 7 cute dogs and several cats who wander by to say hello, but are not a nuisance. Sonja offers a Meet and Greet service from and to the airport, including a food shopping and local driver’s license stop on the way there. She was very kind and thoughtful but did not intrude in any way. A superb hostess. There are several sites to see on Antigua, but mercifully most of them are beaches. The weather (in February) was warm yet breezy so perfect.

We were looking for a true island experience in a private, non-resort setting. The cottage was perfect! The decor was cheery with an island theme and the open layout, large windows and efficient ceiling fan afforded us fabulous circulation of the island breezes. When we weren't out exploring we spent most of our time out on the cozy front porch. Sonja was a very accessible, resourceful hostess who was truly committed to making our experience relaxing and enjoyable. Our favorite beach was only a 15 minute walk from the cottage. We chose to really explore the island and found renting an SUV right there on the property a real asset. The menagerie of dogs and cats was very welcoming, entertaining and not at all imposing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pinkshacktoo!

We stayed for a week in one of the lovely pink shack cottages, it was comfortable and well appointed with a small kitchen and was quite clean. The room was cool with good airflow, and was situated in a lush garden that felt very private. There was some construction noise from a property next door, and the last bit of the road to the cottage is quite rough, but those were only minor issues. Otherwise, Pink Shack is affordable and well situated on the island, with a lovely host who has obvious pride in her work.

A wonderful find in Antigua. Pinkshacktoo was just what we wanted for our stay. It is one of 4 cottage rooms on a fenced in property full of beautiful vegetation that separates you from your neighbors, with a central area with chairs and a barbecue if you want to be social. The cottage is the most recently constructed one and was clean and well equipped for cooking and the bed comfortable. Sonja was a friendly and helpful hostess who went beyond what we expected by giving us a personal tour of the island on our first day. We enjoyed her sweet rescue dogs and cats (outside, they aren't allowed in the cottages). Unsurprisingly, we met people who have been regulars for years. The property is just outside St. John's, which is a $15 USD taxi ride, so I would recommend renting a vehicle if you stay here. (and driving in Antigua will take some getting used to..)
