At Little House by the Ferry you can relax in hammocks and hear the ferry boats tooting their horns coming and going out of the harbor. Located near Silver Lake Harbor where all the restaurants and shops are located, you will find it easy to stroll or bike from this convenient location.

This charming 3 Bedroom (plus bonus bunk room) 1 Bath cottage has undergone a complete renovation and addition during the Spring of 2009. You will love the professionally decorated cottage decor. There are 2 hammocks for relaxing, a fenced-in dog yard, dishwasher and washer and dryer. While there is only one full bath, there is an exceptional outdoor shower with a star-filled sky above. You will never want to shower indoors again.

The large screened-in porch has vaulted ceilings and big views of open space which makes for a very private setting.

Bonus Items: We have bikes, sand chairs, beach umbrellas and boogie boards you are welcome to use. These items are not a part of the lease because we cannot guarantee they will all be in good working order at the time of your stay. It seems like there is always a bike or two out of commission at any given time.

Most of Ocracoke Island is owned by the National Park Service and there are no cottages located at the beach front. Little House by the Ferry is located in the village about a mile and a half from the beach. If you have a four wheel drive you can drive out on the beach. You can also drive or ride bikes to the life guarded beach and walk over the dunes to the beach.

Our cottage is now on city water which provides great water pressure and makes the our shower absolute heaven!

Maximum of 6 people.
Maximum of 3 parking spaces.
Maximum of 1 pet with $100 Pet Fee. (well behaved please)

Check-in time is 3:00 PM and Check-out time is 11:00 AM.

We hope you love Little House by the Ferry as much as we do.

We loved this cozy cottage with wonderful porches. Sofas and beds were comfy. The cottage is an easy walk to nearby restaurants. The beaches were absolutely beautiful in October and we took a wonderful sunset sailing cruise. We plan to return!

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. We especially appreciated that the cottage was accessible for my friend who has mobility issues. The screened in spaces allowed us to enjoy the sea air without the mosquitos. The kitchen is small but functional.

We thoroughly enjoyed the cottage's screened-in porch and walking to the nearby local establishments. This was our first time visiting Ocracoke, and the Little House by the Ferry allowed us to enjoy nearly every aspect that the island had to offer. We plan to return soon!

Great place to relax. The back porch is private, shaded and a perfect place to chill. The owner was easy to work with and very responsive. The house is private, but close to everything. You can walk to shops and restaurants. The kitchen is well stocked.

We loved the cottage with surrounding trees. The weather was lovely, so we could leave doors open to feel natural cool breezes! Kitchen is well equipped for cooking. Host answered questions about the surrounding area. One thing I noticed is that the front screen door needs some repair work. Also, it is difficult to turn cold water tap off in shower. Overall, we give the cottage a A rating. We’d like to stay there again!

We stayed at The Little House by the Ferry for Spring Break and had a really nice time. The house was the beach cottage feel we expected from the description. The location was walkable or easy to access via golf cart any of the island but in a quiet area without foot or vehicle traffic. Our stay was cut short due to a death in the family but we enjoyed our stay very much and appreciated Marshall’s instructions and help when needed.

Little House by the Ferry was exactly as described. We wanted a weekend holiday get-away in the off-season and this trip hit the mark. The cottage is as shown in the photos and description. Since it was off-season and only a few on-island amenities were open, it was nice to have the little kitchen details like coffee filters, salt, pepper, etc. The cottage is in a very quiet area and easy walking distance to most places. Morning coffee on the screened porch with bird watching and lazy naps in the afternoon in the porch hammock. It is near a camp ground, which did not have any visitors at the time we stayed.

We had a wonderful stay at Marsh's cottage on Ocracoke and he was an excellent and generous host. The home was as advertised, with comfortable space for the four of us to visit for two nights. As requested, we brought our own sheets and towels, and while we did have a little trouble following the directions to the cottage, once settled we appreciated the location for its proximity to the ferry from Cedar Island and the village. It was lovely there in mid-October, warm enough but not hot as in the busy season. We found great restaurants and enjoyed the beach and other attractions. A relaxed and friendly setting and since we needed only two of the four bedrooms, we had the extra rooms for storing our luggage. Marsh was very responsive when we needed guidance and truly went beyond the call of duty.

The Little House by the Ferry was perfect for our group and for our visit to Ocracoke. It was very well appointed, cozy as a warm blanket, and in a great location. The neighborhood lizards even stopped by to entertain us this morning before we left. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it for anyone wanting affordable luxury in a private home. Thanks!!

Our stay in Ocracoke exceeded expectations. The house offers anything you may need for your stay. Our Hosts thought of everything. You can tell a lot of love went into this home. It's walking distance to most anything you want to see, eat, or drink! After a day of walking the village, the screened in porch is the perfect setting to relax and enjoy the evening. Find the little photo album on the shelf in the Kitchen and see the remarkable amount of work that went into the renovations of this house. Amazing. The Whale wallpaper is a fabulous touch! We will definitely stay here again, Thank you Marsh and Lynn!

Tropical storm cost us one night on property, forgot our linens and the landlord was super kind to advise us of the secret stand by linens inside which saved us from shopping the variety store our only day on the island. The house is charming. The porch particularly so. There are neighbors only on two sides so feels super private. Very short walk to Silver Lake. Would definitely repeat.

The cottage is super cute and was perfect for our family of six. I thought there was only one twin bed listed when booking, but there are actually two queens, one full, and three twins. It was so nice not to hear kids complaining about having to share a bed with a sibling! The home is beautifully furnished with comfortable beds and couches. My husband and daughter loved the screened-in porch and spent hours there. The kitchen is small but nicely equipped with one big exception. There were only four bowls so we ended up buying some styrofoam bowls at the grocery store - not a huge deal. It would have been nice to have more plates too. My family also liked riding the bikes. We’ve stayed in lots of beach houses, and this cottage was the first to have any bikes maintained as well as rental bikes. The cottage is close to shops so it was easy to bike or walk most places.
