This historic log cottage on the banks of Lake Superior was originally built in the first part of the 1900’s as one of the early fishing camps of Shelter Bay. Over the years there have been numerous modern improvements, but much of the rustic charm, such as the large stone fireplace and the low ceilings and exposed rafters of the second story, remain…and the character does too. The shoreline is stones and boulders which make for lots of action and adds to the aesthetics that come from the sound of lapping waves. The site is wooded, peaceful, and private. This classic, up-north cabin has a main level with an eat-in kitchen, a spacious living room with the fireplace, an additional dining area, a ¾ bath with a low-threshold shower, and The Lake Room with two full sized futons, offering an amazing view of Lake Superior and Au Train Island. There are literally windows and views everywhere! Upstairs, facing the lake, there are two quaint bedrooms with queen sized beds and, toward the rear, an additional sleeping area with two single beds. If you’re keeping track, the place sleeps up to 10 people. Shelter Bay is conveniently located less than 30 minutes from Marquette or Munising. The cottage is situated close to the snowmobile trails and the circular drive allows for parking the truck and trailer combo for hauling your machines. Park and ride right from the cabin. High speed internet and Wi-Fi is available! This is your opportunity to experience part of history in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Arrangements for pets are available.

What’s nearby Deer Lake is an all sports lake, has a public boat ramp and is just down the road. The Brownstone Inn is a great place to eat and is 3 miles away. The public boat ramp to Lake Superior is less than 3 miles from the cottage. Au Train is only 7 miles away and offers food, party supplies, gas, and canoeing on the Au Train River. Au Train Lake is another all sports lake in the area with a public launch site. Grand Island National Recreation Area and Pictured Rocks are close-by.

Great place! So warm and cozy...and those views! Like the other reviews said the upstairs is hard to manuever but it was worth it to wake up to that view. It adds to the charm. Lovely property and location. Clean and welcoming. We didn't need contact with the hosts during the stay but they were great to deal with while booking. Will definitely go back!

House was clean. Kitchen well setup with pans plates etc…. stairs to get to bedrooms were too tight to deal with so we slept on futons on main floor. No big deal worked great. Slept literally right next to Lake Superior.

We came to the area to ride snowmobiles. The host was very accommodating for us and even gave us tips on how to get to the trails. We had a few mechanical issues but the host was very friendly with checking in to make sure we were enjoying our stay and gave us suggestions on where to find parts for our machines to get us back on the trails. The property was just as described. We had a real wood fire at night (bonus points for a real wood fireplace!) and we could hear the waves of Lake Superior crashing on the shores while we slept. 10/10 would recommend!!

We decided to take a UP fall color tour and bring our two dogs. This place was perfect. We loved being right on Lake Superior and the 4 season room right on the Lake was so awesome. We had coffee in the morning and wine at night. We also loved the bedrooms that overlooked the Big Lake. Our one dog got us up early and we saw the Northern LIghts for the first time.It was also a great location as was not on a busy road and could walk the dogs every morning along the Lake. We loved it so much that we are now looking for property on Lake Superior.Very convenient location between Marquette and Munising. It would be awesome in winter months too for the snowmobiles.

We enjoyed our fall getaway at this cabin! Beautiful views of Lake Superior from all over the property. Location was perfect - we explored Marquette, Pictured Rocks, and went on a few good hikes. The cabin is rustic but appointed well, cozy, and very clean. Bonus: we had big waves and were able to see the northern lights during our stay!

Loved this camp! Rustic yet very clean. My husband was occupied with the fire most of the time, by choice. I use a walker, so couldn't get to the bedrooms upstairs, but we slept on one of the futons in the lake room, and slept to the sound of the waves. Incredible. And the view phenomenal. If you're looking for a cozy camp, this is your place.

All good. Very clean and great location. Upstairs is a little tricky to navigate, but after a few times figured it out.

The cabin is definitely old, but it was very clean. It has all the modern amenities that you would need. The furnace cranked warm air, the fireplace was great to use and the hot water was hot, be aware that it is well water if your not use to it you may not like it. We brought our Clearly Filtered water pitcher with us and it still smelled like well water so bring plenty of bottled water with you. The floors are not flat and are very very creaky. The staircase upstairs is very tight, low ceiling and steep. I'm only 5 foot so I didn't have an issue ducking under the roof to get the other side of the upstairs, my husband bumped his head a few times. We didn't get in until late and the cabin was hard to find in the dark. The sunrise in the morning was beautiful on the lake. Kitchen is stocked with everything you would need. We visited all of the waterfalls, Miners Falls was my favorite waterfall and trail to walk, Miners Castle trail, took the Pictured Rocks cruise (highly recommend), drove to Manistique for the day, went to Whitefish Point on the way up. Ate at Roam Inn, carryout at Border grill. Stayed in October and some of the places and restaurants were closed for the season or had different hours, so be aware of that. Over all we had a great stay in the U.P. the hosts were also great

We loved that place so much, it was hard to leave. We don't even have words to describe how charming and comfortable it is, the spacious living spaces, the inviting vintage kitchen, the ever changing views/sounds of the lake, the sunrises in the porch room...If like us you like the lake, this is it! Thank you Thomas and Tammy for sharing your little piece of heaven with us.
