Murphys, California
Open now is our newest Vacation Cottage inspired by the amazing lakes and fishing spots in Calaveras County. Recreational swimming and cooking trout by a campfire were popular Calaveras activities enjoyed by the earliest arrivals from the gold rush of the 1840's. Building on this tradition (and the fact that we had a bunch of unused fishing decoration from one of our lake properties), we decided to dedicate one of the Murphys Wine Cottages to Lake Tulloch, New Melones, and the various nearby streams.
We are done cleaning and decorating this unit. We are offering lower rates before it is opening to entice you to book early.
The Fishing Cottage has a brand new comfortable queen mattress and bed, new living room seating, new paint, brand new appliances, and deck with new outdoor furniture. Every stay comes with complimentary coffee, soaps, hand lotions, and other hospitality amenities for your enjoyment. Priced well below other lodging in downtown Murphys, we believe you will find this economy to be one of the best deals in town. For a slight step up, please visit our Old West cottage. To be on Main Street, please visit our Retro Unit.
Murphys Wine Cottages are truly in real downtown Murphys. The units are located just a few feet to Main Street. Tasting rooms, restaurants, coffee, and stores are less than one minute away by foot.
This cottage is in a complex of six cottages on Jones Street in downtown Murphys. This is the first conversion into vacation rental.
With a "Fishing" theme, the cottage is comfortable with a bedroom, bath and living room. The cottage boasts its own private porch, sitting garden, and parking space. The cottage has a small kitchenette with pots, pans, coffee pot, microwave, fridge, linens, and a tv with dvd player. We offer a comfortable cabin that we hope you will enjoy.
The cottage is truly in downtown Murphys; the four leaf clover, at the creek, is 165 feet from the driveway to the cottage. You are steps to Alchemy, wine tasting, and restaurants.. really!!!!
So, the prices are low to get this started and build our clientele. We have been operating vacation rentals in the area for 15 years and operate Calaveras County's largest rental serving several hundred guests per year. When we are done with this project it will be an exciting new place to visit and will be a destination of its own. In the meantime, we want to get people here as we are developing the cottage and the rest of the property.
House has tremendous potential. Property needs work. Lots of carpet stains, damaged kitchen counter top, collapsing bathroom floor with broken floor tile. TV not attached to any antenna or cable input. Gas heater would not ignite. Two small 10 amp space heaters were provided for heat. Good microwave, refrigerator, and stove top. Ample hot water for showers. Furniture was comfortable and cottage is good walking access to town.
Excellent location to enjoy Murphys. One block away from the main street and an easy walk to all attractions. Most things do not open until 9 and many close at 5, so plan carefully. The only time we used the car was to visit Angel's Camp and Moaning Caverns. The cottage is old but quaint, clean, and quiet. Bring your own soap, shampoo, and hairdryer, they are not supplied. We will also bring a few more pillows next time, as we prefer more than one pillow each. We will definitely be back.
The little cabin was interesting. My boyfriend really liked it, and it was definitely better than staying at the cheaper hotels in Murphy’s. I wouldn’t recommend it to many of my friends as it had some issues such as cobwebs, broken curtain rods, curtains in the bathroom that were made of material that was just cut and not sewn hanging from bungee cords, and no air really gets to the bathroom so it was pretty hot in there. Also, the house you have to go past to get to the cabins is pretty sketchy. Just a heads up for future potential stayers so they know what they are getting into. That being said, I would probably stay there again because it was in a great location just a block away from main st, and it is bigger, more private, and less expensive than the other hotel options there.
Great location. Just a few hundred feet from Main street. Nice place if your using it to just sleep. Friendly neighbors too.
Our family came for a wedding and we booked both the Fishing and Old West cabins. We all compared notes with other wedding attendees and had a few over for after the wedding wine and discussions. We felt we got a good deal. We paid only slightly more than the motel on Highway 4 and believe our accommodations were far better than what we saw there. When you add in that we didn’t have to drive once we got to the property we booked and some of the kitchen amenities, which we did use, the deal was very good. There are some very nice luxury rooms in town and these cabins are not the same as those. However, we lodged six people, for two nights , in two cabins, and our total was about the same price as one of the luxury rooms we visited that housed two people for two nights. We want to let people know we enjoyed these cabins. We read the reviews of these cottages and after taking some of the lower reviews into account and comparing with our experience I am inclined to believe that other reviewers may be wanting luxury lodging at unrealistic prices. These cabins were advertised honestly, they had freshly washed linens, were clean, the host was a good communicator, and these things with the price warrant a five star. We do not feel Murphys is a $300+ per night town even with luxury accommodations. Those rooms seemed to warrant 5 stars but we wouldn’t pay that for a Murphy's stay. We were very happy with these properties and this price. If you want to be comfortable in Murphy's and save money go here.
We love coming to Murphys. The only thing we don’t like is that they roll up the carpet pretty early. If we leave Sacramento after work and hit any traffic or delays a lot of restaurants are already closed. If we leave in the morning on Saturday half the weekend is gone. This cabin was a bargain for the price. Almost all of the furniture in it was new. We brought up our own dinner and cooked in the kitchen. We brought a pan but found out one was there when we arrived. You can cook a decent meal in the kitchen for two people if you want to roll into Murphys after 8, have a wine, and then cook at home and hit the ground running on Saturday. These cottages are really downtown - literally right across the street from Gabby’s Mexican Restaurant. Private parking and a very comfortable mattress made this a winner for us.
I am a regular stayer in Murphys and now have a regular place. We loved the cute fishing theme with the aquatic colors and splotchy paint. These cottages are footsteps to Alchemy restaurant and tasting rooms. We were told we were the first stay and could tell all the furniture was brand new, especially the mattress. The price was more than $100 below anything comparable we have stayed in at Murphys. We will be back.
