Houghton Lake Cottage - Central Location!

The cottage is absolutely adorable! We enjoyed a weekend there for Tip Up Town and even though it was freezing, it was an easy walk on the lake to the beer tent and a short walk on the road to the Limberlost. The host was communicative. It was a great stay!

I was a little worried that the pictures that showed the house being so nice weren’t legit but they were and it was cozy and comfortable inside. It was also nice to be able to bring our dogs with us on our stay. The rules and expectations were reasonable as was the cost. Some of the neighbors were not very friendly and one was outright rude the first day but we had very limited interactions with them as we weren’t there to make friends with the neighbors. We kept to ourselves and so did they. We had a great time enjoying the lakes and just relaxing before getting back into a school routine.

The owner was fantastic keeping us informed, especially the day of. Helped tremendously with additional parking questions. House was very clean, had lots of extras in the cupboards (spices). Smell was really good. Beds were comfy. Didn't need the extras, like washer/dryer but nice to know if we needed them, they were there. Had extra beach towels set aside. Firewood available. Walk to the water was approx. 1/2 city block. We encountered nice neighbors. Loved the no key entry, that way we didn't accidentally lock the key in the house. Very relaxing weekend. The cabin was wonderful, perfect for our last minute stay and surprising that it was still available. Very welcoming for our pets with beds, blankets and food/water bowls. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking, the bedrooms were great, the wifi was fast. Wonderful details throughout the cabin with lots of little things I did not expect to have - firepit, firewood, marshmallow roasting tongs, flashlights, portable fans, cleaning supplies. If this was the extent of our stay I would rank 5 stars.The only issue we encountered was with the neighbors who were extremely unwelcoming. My wife and child walked down to the lake with our two small dogs - skipped a rock across the lake and were encountered on the way back to the cabin by two different neighbors. One advised my wife I know little boys like to throw rocks, but he doesn't need to be throwing rocks in the lake. Another approached my 11 year old and told him he needed to keep his dogs under control - a chihuahua and a yorkie-poo who never barked once during the walk and did not enter anyone else's property. To avoid conflict, we kept to the rental property for the remainder of our stay and never walked back down to the lake. I can't imagine what their reaction would be if a real rowdy crowd were to stay there. The only friendly neighbor was the one next door.

Come in, put your stuff on the counter, take your shoes off and you’re home. A get away, just for me to relax and get away from the fast pace of life.

We loved every ounce of our week vacation here. Everything was furnished and very beautiful. It was so relaxing. All we had to bring was clothes and food. Our family dog even loved all of the space to play along with relax.

Super clean and nice. Everything you need plus the things you forgot you needed ? great place for privacy.. wish the yard was bigger but it was great for our family of four!

Charming, secluded, quiet, very nice

Low key not alot of distraction other than beautiful sunsets at night.

The communication process was excellent. The checkin was easy. The place was very clean and comfy with plenty of room. The kitchen had all the essentials. The lake was just a few houses down. Overall a great stay!
