Welcome to the historic Sallie Lee Cottage, a charming mountain retreat just two blocks from downtown. The cottage is amongst the oldest homes in Asheville, built in 1883. This beautifully preserved home blends historic character with modern comfort, featuring two cozy queen bedrooms, a full kitchen, inviting living room, fast WiFi, and multiple porches perfect for relaxing. Enjoy morning coffee on the porch swing or unwind after exploring downtown shops, restaurants, and local attractions.r>

I stay in the downstairs apartment. I am very respectful of personal space, but always available for any questions you may have!
Guests will enjoy a convenient self-check-in for a smooth arrival experience. While we respect your privacy during your stay, we are always available through the booking platform if you need assistance, recommendations, or help with anything during your visit.

Sallie Lee Cottage is located just two blocks from downtown, making it easy to walk to local shops, restaurants, breweries, and entertainment. The surrounding neighborhood is quiet, historic, and perfect for relaxing after a day exploring the mountains, hiking nearby trails, or enjoying local festivals and markets.

Guests have full private access to the entire first level including the living room, dining area, full kitchen, two bedrooms, bathroom, and all outdoor porches. The property also includes a private driveway with parking for up to two vehicles.

Proud to be a Victorian, the Sallie Lee Cottage is an exquisite example of the architectural wonders of the late 1800s. Around 1880, Sallie Lee built a stick-style Victorian cottage on Ashland Avenue. In doing this, she became the first woman to own a home in Western North Carolina. The cornerstone of this beautiful home centers around the exterior architectural displays of lines, angles, and ornate grids. Furthermore, the interior is equally exceptional, centering around its unique triangular fireplace; which results a distinct Latin cross floor plan.

The home boasts two bedrooms and one full bath. The Butterscotch Room has a fully functioning gas fireplace and access to the Mahogany Tea Room. The Tea Room is bathed in sunlight and offers access to the homes' two front porches! Enjoy a warm cup of tea relaxing in a vintage velvet chair. Lastly, the Terracotta Room has a full sized wardrobe which was built using the original flooring pulled from the home during the restoration process. Each bedroom has a brand new queen sized bed and plenty of natural light.

The bathroom offers a full sized bathtub and shower, plush towels and essential toiletries, just in case!

The cozy living room is inviting for great conversation centered around the gas fireplace. Shared with the dining space, the home also utilizes Google Home for anything and everything the internet has to offer.

The unique floor plan continues in to the kitchen where you will find the cabinets completely stocked and ready for any chef!

The property offers off-street parking with a private driveway and fits up to two vehicles. Additional parking available on street.

Downtown is just a short two-block walk from the cottage, making it easy to explore shops, restaurants, and local attractions without needing a car. For exploring the surrounding mountains and nearby towns, having a car is recommended.

A lovely place to stay! The cottage was comfortable, clean, and well stocked. It was right around the corner from a cafe that became our go to breakfast spot. Communicating with the hosts was a breeze as well. We would stay here again!

Cute little historic house with driveway parking. Neighborhood felt safe and kinda funky/fun but quiet. Everything worked and was exactly as described / pictured. Hosts were helpful when we had a question but otherwise gave us privacy. Highly recommend!

My daughter and I enjoyed our stay in this beautiful, historic home. It was our first time visiting Asheville. We found the home very, comfortable and clean. The location can't be beat. Very close to the downtown area and just a short drive to the Biltmore Estate. Our last night, we walked to Tall John's to celebrate my birthday. We absolutely had a wonderful time.

So MUCH enjoyed this visit to Asheville. The aesthetics and coziness of this location was unexpected. I often travel to explore the city, but this particular location was so inviting. I was never in a rush to get out the door for any event or reservation. The layout of the bedrooms, sitting area & spacious bathroom were ideal for a restful getaway. The location is ideal – a short walk to downtown Asheville or enjoy an extended neighborhood walk through the beautiful streets of Montford. For the Coffee aficionado’s out there – the All Day Darling is minutes away to meet your morning or late afternoon needs. Their dining options are worth noting as well. Thank you for an incredible stay!

House was comfortable. Couldn’t get the dishwasher to work. Drive way was a bit tricky to exit my due to a narrow street and parked vehicles opposite of the driveway. I accidentally set off the smoke alarm while heating a pizza in the oven but got th smoke out and turned off the smoke alarms.

Justin & Christina's place is exactly what we needed in between two work trips. It was the perfect urban R&R, conveniently located blocks from downtown Asheville. You wouldn't think it for a second though, with the shaded bamboo surrounding the private driveway on the quaintest one-way street. We really didn't have a single surprise, except the ironic concern its an old house, wonder if the a/c will work well in the dead of summer?... boy did it! I'm a total dud and couldn't figure out how to keep it at 74, but this was an unexpected treat! Old house, modern stay! While we're pretty easy with needs, we did notice the house was equipped with literally anything you could need. My favorite thoughtful detail being the dark makeup towels keeping the main ones fresh for others. Just a delightful stay, and they also answer questions along the way. Thanks!

A beautiful VRBO, in a great location. The atmosphere was wonderful, as pretty as it looks in the pictures, and there were lots of sweet little places to rest and read - porch swing, back porch, comfy sofas. Communicating with Christina was easy and she was very friendly. My only desire would have been receiving our check in code before we arrived - it was a call-for-code situation and I would have preferred a way to receive our code that wasn't as time sensitive.

First, let me say this review is based purely upon our experience and bears no malice. I only want to give my honest opinions. The location is great. The neighborhood is very pretty. However:The two front porches were inaccessible from the house interior. Only easily accessible patio had rickety doll-sized chairs and overlooked the trash cans. Shower water turned cold in mid-shower (after 5 minutes ). No broom, dustpan, vacuum, or any other cleaning utensils. Dishwasher impossible to start.. Both mattresses too hard; I had a backache every morning when i got up. TV choices minimal. Netflix would not play, for example, even though I am a subscriber. Overall? No, I would not come back.

It is perfect for a family of 4 wanting to walk to downtown Asheville —a 10—to 15-minute walk. The rooms are nicely decorated and have comfortable beds. We ate dinner out, so the small kitchen was not a concern for us. It had just rained the days before our arrival, and there were many mosquitos, so we did not use the small porch much and took advantage of the bug spray in the pantry.
