Our Cottage is situated on a stunning 100’ Lake Front view that is perfect for lovers of nature, outdoors, boating and fishing. Our space can host a maximum of six individuals, consisting of four adults and two children. Dogs are permitted, with a weight limit of 50 pounds, and a $75 fee per dog. Please inquire with the total number of individuals staying in the cottage, including children and pets.
New for 2024 High Speed Starlink (Space X) Internet is here, if you want to connect with your office, stream your favourite show, or play some games, we have unlimited bandwidth.

Our Lake: DEER BAY IS NOT A SWIMMING LAKE, it is known for its great fishing, boating, and any water sports activities (Kayaking, Canoeing, Paddle boards, paddle boats). The water is usually pretty warm, come the middle of July, there is a muddy bottom on our lake, so we recommend water shoes. We do our best to remove the weeds around the dock area, in front of the dock is perfect for swimming till about 15-20 feet out it does get weedy. Our past guests with smaller children have enjoyed this, as their kids were able to play near the dock area which is shallow and has a sandy bottom. We do recommend Sandy Beach (see our guidebook for info) which is a short drive from the cottage for optimal swimming conditions.
*Please note*: There are natural springs that run deep in the ground under the cottage, therefore the front lawn is often on the damp side. We do recommend wearing a water shoe or Croc style sandal when using this part of the property.
While staying at our quaint, board & baton classic designed Hideaway; sit back and relax on our spacious, private, wrap-around benched seating, 32.5' X 14' foot wide wood deck overlooking the glistening blue water of Deer Bay! There is a patio set that seats 6 as well as a few Muskoka chairs where you can enjoy a meal with family and friends. There is a Brand New propane BBQ, with all the tools you need to be a world-class grill master. We have a 36’ dock that has a 12’X12’ deck area that is sure to be great for fishing, swimming or just sitting around and relaxing (see photos). You're welcome to bring your own boat (please advise us at the time of booking) While enjoying your stay at our cottage, we do provide KAYAKS, Paddle Boat, Row Boat, and a few Life Jackets (we recommend bringing your own for a proper fit), if you choose to use them, use them responsibly! By using them, you're using them at your own risk, and we will not be liable for any personal injury, that may occur. You're also responsible for any damages that might occur to them while using them, which would be taken from your security deposit.
We also have a Motor for the Aluminum Row Boat Available which turns it into a great fishing boat, we can arrange to leave you instructions to access the motor, it is available at a weekly rate of $375 per week/long weekend (min 3 days), the payment has to go through the VRBO website, and we have to send you a liability waiver, if you're interested in this option, please send us a message.
After you’re done with your boat ride come on back and relax in our cozy hammock, enjoy a glass of wine, and try to spot some of the many hummingbirds that are constantly fluttering around. Enjoy a campfire at the in-ground fire pit at the water's edge, where you can toast marshmallows, sing songs & tell stories. Listen to the enchanting call of the loons! And if your timing is right, you may be able to watch the moon rise over Deer Bay, and be mesmerized by the moonlight shimmering and reflecting off the water. The property features several mature trees that offer a well-balanced mix of shade and open sunny areas.
We want to make sure that your stay is as enjoyable as possible, so we have a few friendly reminders to share with you. During high season, we have a strict check-in and check-out policy to ensure that our guests have ample time to enjoy the cottage. Check-in is after 4:00 pm and check-out is before 11:00 am. Please make sure to follow our policy as we have a short window to prepare for the next guests. As this is a rental cottage, we kindly ask that you bring your own sheets and towels (if you're coming from out of town, get in touch with us, we may be able to provide you with sheets and towels for an additional fee). But don't worry, we provide pillows, comforters, and blankets. Plus, we offer paper towels, Kleenex, toilet paper, dish soap, hand soap, shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner for your convenience.
Be aware that we have two Security Cameras on our property, one is above the Garage, and it is on 24/7 and monitors people entering our property. The other is above the main entrance and is above the deck, it is there for Check in Purposes only, and goes off after you've arrived. If you have any questions about this, please get in touch.

My husband and I went up for Thanksgiving weekend with our french bulldog. Beautiful Wooden Cabin on the Water! I absolutely loved my stay here! The cabin is stunning beautifully made from wood, spacious, and spotless clean. It’s right on the water, which makes it so peaceful and relaxing. There’s plenty of room to move around and enjoy the space, whether you’re inside or out by the water. The neighbours were also super friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a relaxing and comfortable getaway! We are a big fishing family and I have to say if you’re looking for a good fishing spot! Book away!

I was lucky enough to have two weeks at Deer Bay Hideaway. Having spent all my childhood summers on this lake, it felt like a homecoming and was able to share the same experience with local family who also came out for visits. The cottage has a great aesthetic, with lots of space for our needs, and is comfy and relaxing. (Hint: dock coffee in the morning and shady hammock in the afternoon)The kitchen was well stocked with all the things you’d need; like dishes, cookware, coffee, etc…The use of the watercraft is awesome for local exploration, and the boat and motor was great for getting out fishing throughout the lake! We were able to have a fish fry dinner for the family as a result of the great fishing!Host’s Charmaine and Gary were responsive and helpful with any of my questions and even suggested local family friendly events as well. Definitely a great place to stay and a recharge of my soul. Highly recommended!Murray Vancouver July 4-18, 2025

Enjoyed our stay at Deer Bay Hideaway. The cottage was clean and comfortable. Good selection of activities for inside (games, puzzles, movies) and outside (kayaks, paddle boat, swimming). The hosts were readily available to contact with any questions.

Clean, comfortable and rustic (in a good way!). Kayak, paddle boat and fishing boat were great for every day water adventures. Hosts/Listing provided all the details required to plan our stay. Thanks for sharing your cottage.

We were looking for a nice place to head up north for thanksgiving weekend… the location was great, cute lake, beautiful and very clean well maintained cottage with all the cooking supplies we needed to make meals and bake a cake! Lots of nice options close by if you want to treat yourself for a night out in town. The hosts were very accommodating for early check ins, late check outs, make sure we were comfortable etc. highly recommended!!

Pros: - location location location! (cottage is right on a quiet & beautiful lake). Pictures are accurate. - well stocked & decorated (very cozy). If you forget to bring something, chances are, you can find it inside the cottage (kitchen items, bug spray etc.) - check-in instructions are clear & everything was easy to find - kayaks, paddleboat, canoe & life jackets available for use - BBQ for use Cons: - No recycling bin on site, which is not disclosed in the listing. We had to bring our recycling home, which was inconvenient. I've booked cottages before and this is the first place I've stayed where there was no recycling bin & you cannot dispose of recyclables in the garbage (or risk a fine). The lack of recycling bin was not communicated in the listing. It felt like a slap in the face when we were checked out and driving away and saw many of the neighbours with their full recycling bins out & ready for collection while we had our recyclables with us in our car. I get that different municipalities have different recycling rules but should consider offering renters a recycling bin if the municipality collects recyclables. - Not the most pet friendly. We had to pay the dog fee ($75) for our 4lb 4month old kitten. - There was a constant damp smell in the cottage during our 5 day stay. Granted, it is an older cottage situated close to a lake so that's sort of expected I suppose.

Absolutely delighted with our stay at this charming cottage! From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the place was just as picturesque as it appeared online. Every corner of the cottage exuded coziness, and it truly felt like a home away from home. What truly stood out was how well-stocked the cottage was. It's as if the hosts had a checklist of everything you could ever need for a comfortable stay, and they nailed it. From kitchen essentials to cozy blankets and even those little extra touches that make a difference, they've got it all covered. And let's talk about location – perfection. Just a short 10-minute drive to a quaint little town that had everything we could possibly need. It's nice to know that grabbing that last-minute item wasn't a hassle at all. But the highlight of our stay? Without a doubt, it was the water. We practically lived by the water's edge. Our wildlife encounters were like something out of a dream – loons gliding gracefully, kingfishers darting by, hawks soaring above, ducks making a splash, falcons commanding the sky, water snakes slithering, Canadian geese in their signature formation, fish darting beneath the surface, and to top it off – an otter, just before we left. We reluctantly packed our bags to leave, but there's good news – we're already counting down the days until next year's getaway. This cottage has given us memories to treasure, and we're already itching to create more. Until then, thank you for an unforgettable stay!

Loved the place, it was exactly like we pictured it to be, lots of plates and cutlery and cooking tools ready to go! It was super conveniently located, went to Sandy Beach not far away, and the kids jumped in off the dock a few times. It was awesome to take the boats out and do a little fishing! Honestly, a really fun and relaxing few days just a short ways away. Thank you so much, Charmaine!! We'll be back next year!!
