Somerset, Pennsylvania
Sited high on a wooded cliff overlooking the valley below with a beautiful trout stream, this cottage is in located in the heart of the Laurel Highlands, just minutes to Vail's Seven Springs and Hidden Valley Resorts, and Short walk or cross country ski to neighboring state park.
This mountain cottage is the former home of the manager of the neighboring ski resort, and has many luxury amenities. It has been completely renovated and practically everything is new, while retaining lots of mountain charm. The living room features a 2 story stone fireplace with tongue and groove atrium ceiling, skylights, and 2 mission style sofas, recliner, Vizio flat screen Smart TV with free on-demand video access and WiFi access.
The new kitchen features stainless steel appliances including a dishwasher, full sized refrigerator, smooth top oven, built-in microwave, and Cusineart coffee maker. A butcher block kitchen island seats 2 for informal dining, while the adjoining dining area with handmade rustic lighting fixtures seats 6. The dining area has french doors which open up to a covered porch and outdoor eating area, providing a continuous indoor/outdoor seasonal living/dining area.
There are 3 bedrooms, including a large master bedroom with built in window seat and high-end, queen Sleep Number mattress, with adjustable firmness to match your exact preference. Each of the 2 additional bedrooms sleep 2, with plenty of closet and dresser space and a dedicated half bath. A top-of-the line LG Front load Laundry center provided further convenience. The cottage sleeps 6
All plumbing and heating systems are new, with new bathroom fixtures, an efficient central heat pump for both heating and cooling, and individual room temperature controls. On a cold winters night, the stone fireplace with low maintenance gas insert provides for additional heat and ambiance.
A big attraction of this property is the access to the outdoors. A large multi-level wrap around deck provides outdoor living space, and sits high above the bubbling trout stream in the valley below. The deck is built around a hemlock tree, which provides for pleasant summer shade. Huge rock outcroppings, mountain laurel, and ferns surround the property. Private trails provide access to a mountain spring and the stream, available for fishing (class 1 trout stream). The property is private, and backs to hundreds of acres of undeveloped mountain resort property. A trail leads directly to the adjoining state park, with lake, sand beach, and numerous hiking and picnic options.
A sun room provides a lovely place to enjoy the outdoors, even if the weather is not cooperative. With windows on 3 sides, rustic timber walls, and very a comfortable Lloyd Flanders Wicker set, it oozes with cottage charm!
Area attractions include ski and golf resorts, upscale winery (10 minutes), Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, White Water Rafting, Amusement Parks, and biking. Additionally, the neighboring resorts offer restaurants, spas, concerts, and summer day camps.
We had a great time and it is a very convenient location to get to both Hidden Valley and Seven Springs. The owner was very helpful especially when there was extreme cold.
Extremely cozy and well stocked. Everything was perfect. We did not explore much due to rain but the cabin was perfect for a weekend in with friends. Will return!
Nice property and great location to ski resorts.
Here are all the words that came to me as my family and I enjoyed Christmas at Rockcliffe Cottage: serene, scenic, cozy, picturesque, quiet, beautiful! The online pictures of this cottage do a great job in putting a spotlight on the property. And while the pics are beautiful, they don't really speak to the deep feeling of coziness that is awaiting you the moment you open the door....actually the moment you drive up to it! I am certain that you can explore more of the landscape and the natural surroundings in the spring and summer, but wintertime......is magical!!! I can't wait to visit again!
We spent a weekend at this cute home and it was perfect for our getaway celebration with friends and family. Dave, the owner, was great with communication and fast with a reply. The home was very clean, cute and quaint. We loved the view in the back with the fire pit and hanging night lights. Plus a picnic table on the covered porch was very convenient. They also had ample starter supplies which was very much appreciated. Newer appliances also a perk. We hope to plan another trip here again in the near future! There was great hiking, fishing and picturesque views. Be sure to make reservations at the nearby restaurant, Out of the Fire. ? Thanks for a super time at Rockcliffe Cottage! Annette
