Kitty Hawk, North Carolina
Come enjoy your stay in our Historic "Beach Box" across the street from the beach. This 2 bedroom 1 bath cottage is just steps away from a very exclusive and beautiful beach. We have central heat/air, washer/dryer, High Speed Wifi, Smart 65" TV and plenty of off street parking.
Our beautful little cottage features two queen pillow top beds and two twin pillow tops. We have a full size kitchen with all that's needed to cook a full dinner!
We hope you will love the original wood plank walls and ceilings. This is the way they built these original cottages years ago. Even the cabinets are built from the same wood and by the same carpenters. A very Historic Outer Banks Beach Cottage. This beach cottage can be described as Rustic. We are making improvements to our new addition and you may notice a few minor imperfections. We hope you will love the fabulous location as we are focused on providing a clean and comfortable respite for you and your family.
Even with a thorough modernization the property is a historical home that is now over 75 years old. It has some eccentricities that reflect building standards and designs from the turn of the last century that lends to its charm as an older beach cottage. But even so, we hope that you will love our older and charming home.
Property location great. Limited hot water. Needs yard work and minor maintenance.
Stay away!!! Unclean and unsafe. The property is dated as prior reviews said and we expected and brought our own chairs to sit on. The real issues are the cleanliness and safety. The front door deadbolt does not lock. The staircase and porch have no outdoor light and it was dangerous in the dark to go up and down the stairs. We left the property shortly after getting there and checked into a hotel. There was a cockroach in the bathroom, a dirty sponge in the sink, ants on the kitchen counter, and candy wrapper on the floor. They obviously did not clean the unit properly. The bathroom is sooooo small that sitting on the toilet with the door closed is uncomfortable even for petite ladies. Didn’t go near the shower but if also looked very tiny. The host was curt and has not responded to our concerns regarding safety or pest problems. The cheap daily rate very quickly changes when you hit the pay now button as they added all these cleaning fees. Very disappointed and very glad we were able to find a hotel to accommodate us.
Worked for us! The cottage is old, but in a great location. We were traveling with a dog, and this was one of the few pet friendly houses available.
It met my requirements. Probably would book again in the future.
I kind of knew what I was getting into after reading the reviews. I was looking for something reasonably priced for a short stay that was pet friendly. The pros for this property are that the communication with the owner and check in process was very efficient. There were absolutely no problems with that aspect of the stay. I can’t stress enough the con for this property. It was filthy and smelled awful. I think the odor was mainly from the carpeting. There was a pretty hefty, in my opinion, cleaning fee and the dining table was sticky. The shower was very dirty with mold growing all over. I would have expected it to be cleaner, and it was just not. And there was no fan in the bathroom. The lighting was very dingy and the stairs up to the deck and entrance were not in great shape. But you get what you pay for, renter beware. I will not stay again.
We originally planned to stay here 10/21-10/23 but the app glitched on us, and only was gonna be 10/22-10/23. I reached out to the host and they were happy to help and make accommodations for the times we wanted. They had availability to their home next to this one called the Pirates Lair. So communicating was really good. Overall my husband and I feel the home needs a lot of work and updating. The porch was falling apart and not safe, the railings weren't really nailed in and all uneven if my son or us were leaning on them to much we could’ve fell with the rails not being secured. I don’t know if the carpet is newer and was done wrong but when we had no shoes on we kept getting stuck in the foot with the staples and it hurt. The shower head was held by a nail or screws that wasn’t stable. The kitchen table almost flipped because the legs weren't even right my husband had to fix that. If you barely moved the whole house moved. We feel the home (Pirates Lair) needs a lot of work and updating to stay safely in. Space is good for a weekend getaway and enough space for that so that’s a plus. If home get attention and upgrades it would be a great place to stay.
Worked for us!
1st time renting like this. Super easy.
The porch looks like it might fall down, interior is not much better. On the plus side it is close to the beach.
Had a great short getaway. Convenient to beach and many other sites, restaurants, and stores. Home was nice for a small group.
This property is fantastic and in a great location. Less than a block to beach access and close to all the Kitty Hawk amenities. Highly recommend a stay here.
Went for a weekend trip and had a very nice visit. The location is wonderful, the beach access is about as good as it gets. The linens were clean and comfortable. The host was friendly and accommodating when we arrived a little early.
If comfort and cleanliness are unimportant to you, then this may be the perfect beach cottage for you. Literally, the only positive remark that I can make about this property is its close proximity to the beach; there is a public beach access at the end of Starfish Lane. Upon arrival, my daughter sat in one of the chairs in the den and very quickly found herself covered with dog hair. Not only did we find the couch in the same condition, but it also smelled like a dog bed. We bought large towels to cover the furniture in order to sit on it. I slid the coffee table over in order to do yoga. There was food and other interesting items underneath where the table had been. I laid towels on the floor and put my yoga mat on top; the top of my mat had enough dog hair on it by the time I had finished that I had to hold up the mat and shake it all off. While down on the floor, I decided to take a peek under the couch; I found more of the same. When I went to make a cup of tea, I found not 1, but 4 rotten avocados in 4 mugs in the cabinet. At this, we decided that we would be eating out. We bought paper products rather than use any cups, dishes, or silverware in the house. (Beach towels are not provided.) Bath towels are not as pictured; they are quite thin. Bring pillows also, as the pillows provided are subpar. Fortunately, there is a TJ Maxx nearby, so we were able to purchase towels, sheets, pillows, and air fresheners there. (Belks and Home Goods are both in the area, too.) After purchasing all of these products, I decided to wash them before use. The dryer was full of sand. I am not just talking about the lent trap either, even though it was full of both lint and sand; there was literally sand setting in the bottom of the dryer. I washed the lint filter and cleaned the sand out of the dryer. Every single load that I washed had sand in it, and I was not washing sandy items. I was only washing the newly purchased products. I could go on, but I think I've made my point. We contacted the owner, who then wanted to see pictures. We sent pictures and asked to have the cleaning fee refunded because of the condition upon arrival. The owner never replied to us again. Cleanliness and comfort are important to us. You will find neither of those in this beach cottage.
