Stayed Aug 9, 2025Check in was easy and the host was quick to respond to questions and concerns. The beach is sandy, private, and the perfect place to hang out, build sandcastles and look for cool rocks. We all enjoyed the fire pit and watching the beautiful sunsets. We are a family of 14 with 3 little kiddos. While the beach is sandy the water is very rocky. It is a MUST to bring water shoes or swimming will be a challenge. The house was large enough for all of us and there is extra space on multiple decks. We agree with the other reviews that the house needs work. The basement is very musty and on humid days the furniture felt damp. We think getting rid of the carpeting would help. We found a lot of mouse droppings in a couple of the lower cabinets and behind the garbage bin. We drove 90 minutes round trip to buy heavy duty mouse traps and killed 5 mice in a 24-hour period. It was a big inconvenience to put all of our food (for 14 people) in totes. This will continue to be a problem unless entry points are sealed. There is a corner store which has some items. The nearest large grocery store is about 45 minutes away. Bring enough food and don't forget the totes. Shout out for State Road Provisions restaurant, Legs restaurant, and Pond Hill Farm.

Stayed Jul 5, 2025We arrived to find dog feces in bedrooms (despite being listed as pet-free) and a dead mouse in the kitchen cabinet. The owner said just throw it out and clean up. Throughout the week, there were mouse droppings on the counters every morning, and mice chewed into our food, making the kitchen undesirable and unusable. Making up our own beds we found evidence of mice as well. The yard was overgrown but no problem here, the owner keeps 2 non working weed trimmers for your use in the garage. When we reported our concerns, the owner dismissed it as normal for northern Michigan, which has never been our experience in years of renting in the area. Very disappointing and not worth the cost. Renters should be aware of these serious cleanliness issues. The description sounds inviting however the house lacks maintenance and upkeep. The basement was extremely musty and was difficult to spend much time in. On a positive note the view of Lake Michigan is beautiful through the trees and sunsets are very nice from the beach.

Stayed Oct 3, 2024We didn't get the checkin information until about 2 hours before arrival which made me very anxious. The owner has a website & as I was trying to find anything about check-in, I saw bring your own towels! We had to stop and buy new towels for our group. He did say that if we needed to he had a few at the house. Upon arrival, you're required to make the beds - and then wash/fold the sheets before you leave! Just bring your own everything. The view from the deck is amazing - the surrounding area has lots to do & see. The house is spacious & well equipped but needs some TLC. We would stay again, with our own towels & sheets packed....

Stayed Aug 3, 2024The property is located on the shore of Lake Michigan and what a beautiful view that is! My sisters and I all enjoyed hanging out on the beach and enjoying the mild weather. The house is large and roomy. There were 7 family members on the trip and we didn’t even use all the bedrooms. This is an older home and a comfortable place to stay, though there were some maintenance issues evident. Overall, we had a pleasant stay.

Stayed Aug 5, 2023The house was beautiful, and perfect for a large family - Mom and Dad, four adult kids, and 4 grandkids. Wrap around deck was lovely, very spacious and so well equipped! Beautiful Lake Michigan setting, perfect sunsets, beach walking, star gazing (considerate host even alerted us to the Northern Lights sightings!). Hope to come again next year.

Stayed Jul 1, 2023For the price, this house worked out well for our group. Plenty of space for 12 people, and located in the woods so it feels isolated even though neighbors are quite close. We spent tons of time on the beach and in the lake. Water is shallow here so great for kids (bring water shoes!) The house is older and has some deferred maintenance issues, but nothing that interfered with our trip.

Stayed Oct 3, 2021The cottage was even larger than we expected, and the location was fabulous! The rooms were comfortably furnished. The deck was great for eating outdoors, and the beach was amazing! Our only complaint is that we wished we could have stayed longer! :-)

Stayed Sep 17, 2021My family and I enjoyed our stay and plan to visit again next year. The owner gave clear instructions and was responsive to all the questions I had. We spent a lot of time at the beach/firepit area which is lovely. The steps leading down to the beach can be dangerous at night and would recommend solar lights at least at the bottom of the steps. All things considered, we had a wonderful time and look forward to visiting again in the future.

Stayed Aug 14, 2021Three siblings and their families and their mom stayed at the house which is located in a wooded setting on the beach. Everyone was able to spread out between the two floors so we did not feel crowded. Five kids, ages 6-13, LOVED the loft above the garage. It is a very large room above the garage filled with several beds. (It is listed as being above the garage (which it is) but i thought it was a separate building from the description. The loft is part of the house and has a separate staircase leading to it.) The kids loved having a separate area to themselves. The beach was nice and spacious and you could walk down the beach in both directions. The beach was sandy but the lake had rocks in it. If that bothers you, bring water shoes. The kayaks were a lot of fun. The neighbors we encountered were very friendly. Legs Inn down the street has a huge backyard with a guitarist singing jimmy buffet type songs. The Goodhart General Store has delicious cookies.

Stayed Jun 19, 2021This property on Lake Michigan is really beautiful. Nice beach walking. The beach is a little rocky so bring water shoes. We had 13 people and had room to spare which is a first for our group. The dining chairs could stand to be reglued. You have to bring your own towels. It is a ways to a grocery store but that was not a problem for us. The store in Levering was good for emergency items like milk, snacks, and beverages . The IGA in Harbor Springs has everything including an excellent meat department. The family vote was we would rent this house again. This is a first for our family.
