Mears, Michigan
This beautiful, custom-built cottage on Lake Michigan mostly finished in 2013 now with air conditioning is off a quiet, dead end road with no houses across the street and has 100 feet of private, dazzling Lake Michigan frontage. Located on the property is a walkable, dune trail as well as some stone steps with a rope rail to easily access the cove, a sandy swimming area that is shallow for quite a ways, perfect for small children. Please note the amount of sand above the water varies due to Lake Michigan and current water levels. Warm up after swimming using the outdoor shower with both hot and cold water. The view of the lake is breathtaking, sunsets are amazing, and the location is great! Delight in walking to the Silver Lake sand dunes where you can climb and jump the dunes. Enjoy access to a fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances including a dishwasher and use of a charcoal grill/smoker for outside cooking. Eating outside on the pretty, cedar deck is relaxing and spectacular while taking in the magnificent views and lake breezes. It is also just a short walk to the state park where there is a very long beach to walk. Two of the three bedrooms have direct, pure, Lake Michigan view and access to an upper deck. Enjoy family time playing pool, foosball, cards, and games. Both the quaint town of Pentwater and fun at Silver Lake are close by.
My husband and I, 1st arrived, with our 10 and 12 year old grandkids. The 4th night 16 year old granddaughter and our 2 adult daughters joined us. Plenty of room for all. This home is as described, well cared for, clean and with everything you need. Just bring your own beach towels and food if you enjoy staying in, like we did! The view is so beautiful! The lake was very active the 1st few days and playing in the waves was never ending! The “private cove” is something special to have and is shared with 2 other homes. Not a problem, everyone is friendly and respectful, fyi, they do have dogs. Take the path across from the house to the upper road, head south 1/2 mile there is Silver Lake beach where you can walk as long as you’d like. Or head up into the dunes, hike and watch the 4 wheeler’s. We went into Silver Lake to ride go carts and putt putt golf. Grocery store is not far. We built fires almost nightly, that is the one area that could use some attention. There is not a lot of room to sit around the fire pit. It goes down hill and seems like it could be leveled out without to much work. This was a concern and the reason for only 4 stars. One thing we would do differently, is close the kitchen window above the sink at night. Fruit flies or gnats had hatched and were hard to get rid of. We had a most wonderful time staying at Bella Vista and hope to be able to again! The host’s were attentive and easy to communicate with. Much appreciated this opportunity!
We shared the home with our adult kids and one toddler grandchild and everyone loved it and said to book it again for next year! It was super clean other than the musty smell in the walkout basement that is probably hard to avoid (due to humidity and no cross breeze down there). The basement smell is reduced when you run the air down there, and the adults staying down there didn't mind at all. The constant sound of the waves and lake breeze coming through are sooo wonderful. The kitchen was well-stocked and there were beach toys, floaties, beach chairs, and deck chairs to make it easy to enjoy the outdoors. The owner was very responsive to all my messages and questions. The beds were okay - we are now used to our cushy memory foam mattresses at home, so the stiff coil mattresses were a little tough on our shoulders and hips. But the place isn't priced for luxury. I miss the beautiful sunsets and breeze!
The house had excellent views and private area to swim. The inside is very clean and well maintained. The manager was very helpful. . The house is not very elderly friendly as stairs are very steep the bedding is modest and furniture is old. The low water pressure was annoying. We were hoping to take advantage of the swimming area but Lake Michigan is too cold to swim in end of june.
The property is as discribed. Owner was easy to work with and check in/out was easy. Location was close to everything around Silver Lake. Our grandkids loved their own sandy beach and spent every waking minute on it. Would rent again.
Wonderful property! Right on the water. Great communication’
The view of the lake is extraordinary, and the swimming is wonderful - there's a little cove with a shallow area for kids, but more serious swimmers can go out into the lake. There are wonderful places to hike and bike, and the home is a great place to spend time - almost every room has a lake view. The bookshop in Montague is worth a trip (about 10 miles) if you're a reader, and the onion rings at the grill at 34th and W Deer Road (I think) are AMAZING!
This location was so perfect. Plenty of deck seating to view the most beautiful sunsets ever! House was clean and check-in was so easy. Owners were so easy and pleasant to communicate with. We will definitely be back!
Fantastic views! Close enough to Silver Lake and Pentwater, but far enough that you feel “out there”. Kids loved the little cove and beach. Adults loved the deck and fire pit. Got rained in part of a day, but played pool, foosball, and board games.
This was a great place for a week getaway with family. Beautiful view.
The most relaxing vacation we’ve had. The dune ride was the best and so many local attractions for children within 30 minutes. We just can’t say enough about how great our vacation was. And the property owners are super responsive which made planning easy.
Beautiful home and amazing view! Owners are very accommodating. Such a fun family vacation! Only think that could have been improved was the shower heads in both showers need replaced but pretty minor issue in comparison to everything. Definitely recommend staying here!
Place has been fully renovated and was very clean. The property is right on lake MI so you can hear the sound of the water while sitting on the deck. The interior has a very beachy feel and there were hiking trails nearby to walk our kids to see the dunes. My only constructive feedback is the furniture and bath towels. Again, the inside is clean and fully redone. But the sofas looks old and dark so it gives off an impression of lack of cleanliness. That is not the case on this property. Then the bath towels were also dated. With those two small tweaks this property will be so fun for future visits. I would stay again and the owner was very helpful, kind, and responsive. Our kids enjoyed themselves immensely and it was relaxing. Appreciate the owners for having this available to spend time with my family.
Great views of Lake Michigan, short walk to Silver Lake sand dunes. Property has everything needed while on vacation. Lori and Zach were great with communication. We’re already talking about visiting the area again in the near future.
