Wake up to the sound of the ocean! The Beachcomber Cottage is a lovely low-country cottage with 2 bedrooms (2 queens in each room), living area, kitchen, and a large front porch facing directly onto the ocean and a pristine and secluded beach.
The location of this cottage really couldn't be better! Located on the 'Avenue of Oaks' on Daufuskie Island, the Beachcomber Cottage is within a very short walking distance to the beach.
Please note that a well-behaved canine member of the family will be considered, although there is a pet fee. Manager must review pet requests. See the end of this description for our complete pet policy.**
The equestrian center is also back in operation, and horseback riding is available.
We imagine you will find yourself strolling from your cottage to the beach over and over. This beautiful beach is perfect for long walks, jogging, and even bike riding. Families especially enjoy the relatively calm waters where children can swim and play without fear of a strong undertow. It’s a great beach for building sand castles and hunting for shells and sand dollars after the tide goes out.
Folks also enjoy touring the island by golf cart, by bicycle, and by simply taking nice long walks.
The wildlife is abundant and breathtaking. Melrose is the home of a Great White Egret rookery, and at certain times of the year you will see hundreds of these graceful birds settle in for the night. Nests of American Bald Eagles can sometimes be found nearby, and now and then vigilant visitors can actually catch site of a Loggerhead Turtle coming ashore to lay hundreds of eggs in the soft sand.
THE ISLAND
You will want to spend time exploring the rest of this unique and special island. Accessible only by ferry, water taxi, and private boat (we will help with your arrangements), Daufuskie's isolation from the hustle and bustle of the mainland provides a one-of-its-kind experience for those looking to truly get away from it all. You won't find a friendlier place, and one of the best things about visiting this island is getting to know the local folks, and its diverse and interesting culture.

The cottage itself is very unique and somewhat different from the other cottages in the area. Decorated by the owners themselves, it has a charming interior. If you've ever dreamed about having your own relaxed but attractive beach house, this cottage is the place for you and your family.
In terms of the interior, an open area great room and dining area includes a comfortable seating area with flatscreen TV (with Direct TV cable service) and a great selection of DVDs. The dining room table looks out to the porch and directly to the ocean. Of course, there's a fully equipped kitchen that looks onto the great room area, two spacious bedrooms with two queen-sized beds in each room (with a total of 4 beds) their own TVs, and ensuite bathrooms.
Need even more sleeping space The living room has both a sleeper sofa and sleeper love seat in the living area.
This beachfront home is a find! It is exactly as pictured. Steps from the beach, with a great front porch overlooking the ocean. Everything is in great condition - linens, towels, furniture… The property management was very responsive and provided great information about groceries, ferry and land transportation. Will definitely come back.
The Beachcomber was very comfortable and up-dated. We enjoyed the porch overlooking the ocean with two ceiling fans. We spent much of our time relaxing and enjoying the scenery. This was our second trip to Daufuskie Island and we plan to return next year. The accommodations were as described. A great place to spend a week for relaxation and being in touch with nature.
Already planning next visit.
Absolutely Perfect
Perfect cottage with amazing views! Loved it!
Great place right at the ocean. House was very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. When I needed information property manager got right back to me. Definitely would go back!
My friends and I were so lucky to get this property!!! The home is spotless, beautiful and the ocean is right out the back door. If we weren’t on the beach we were on the back porch. The beach is perfect! No crowds, no stress! The low tide would be amazing for children to run and play. We explored the island some but it was hard to tear ourselves away from the property. If you get the chance - GO! We will definitely go back!!!
Friendly locals, interesting historical facts, fun time driving around on the golf cart visiting independent businesses like the Iron Fish and other shops. Will be back again without a doubtl!
The house is truly steps from the beach with some great trees for Enos! We spent several afternoons swaying in the ocean breezes and napping to the sound of the surf. We loved long walks with the company of our dogs playing in the surf and chasing the birds. Sitting on the beach with only a few other families and seeing crowded Hilton Head across the horizon sharing the same surf was delightful. The house itself was just the right-size with 3 teen boys! The island makes you slow-down and enjoy time together. We’ve fallen in love with Daufuskie!
My husband and I traveled to Daufuskie Island for the first time. The ferry ride was wonderful and they know their stuff! Our cottage was beautiful with a view to match. Let me first compliment Deborah Smith for her assistance and excellent overview of the cottage, island, things to see, and generally anything we needed to know!! The cottage was clean and comfy. People on the island were really wonderful, from the transportation people to the golf cart people and anyone else who wanted to make sure we had a wonderful first trip to the island. The two restaurants were great-I must really call out Lucy Bell's for their mouthwatering food and kind manner. I must really suggest going to Daufuskie Blues, School Grounds, and the rum distillery. We still didn't get to see everything I wanted, but that is what second, third, fourth, etc. trips are for. Can't want to come back. Go to Daufuskie Island - it is great!!!
