There's a large storage room for equipment or belongings/furniture etc. This garden cottage apartment is spacious and tastefully furnished with antiques and vintage collectibles. Original wood floors, high ceilings and large windows add to the ambience. There is a sweet fenced yard in front with patio to enjoy with options for sun and shade. Eat in kitchen plus dining area in living room. You will enjoy convenience, walking to town/NAU plus privacy, a sweet perennial filled garden and off street parking. Natural Grocers is at the end of the street. This unit (attached to two others) has one bedroom, sofa/day bed in living room. updated bathroom and kitchen with dishwasher and washer dryer. High speed internet. Lovely outside spaces that are rare for in town. Lilac is located in a large historic home (Built in 1901) just two blocks to NAU, Route 66 and walking distance to the hip South-side of Historic Downtown Flagstaff with it's unique eateries, breweries, coffee shops & galleries. 90 mins to Grand Canyon. 35 mins to Sedona. 25 min to Ski-ing. Cottage is well-equipped for long stays and located in a central Westside neighborhood but please note: the train runs regularly across the road and up the hill, night and day. If you grew up with trains - it won't be a problem and it's much better than a stay by a freeway or busy street but ask for details if you're not sure. ***For stays of one month or more, no tax is paid. Please read details before booking.

The Location:
This is a safe inner-city neighborhood that is mostly residential (mix of families and young people/students) but with some businesses mixed in such as motels. Old homes have been torn down to build luxury apartments and historic preservation is sadly missing. Don't expect a high-end manicured residential area. NAU is a couple of blocks away as are several motels. There is a community ballpark half way down the street. At the beginning of our street you'll find Natural Grocers, Haven Montessori School, Matador Coffee and across Rte 66, the exceptional, Himalayan Grill. And Mike & Rhonda's is a popular down-home, affordable breakfast spot. But a wee walk further and The Toasted Owl is very Boho Flagstaff. This is a unique urban getaway - we love this low traffic end of Clay Ave. with the forested hillside above, the crickets at night in Summer. A trail along the railway line will take you into Thorpe Park - great for runners. We are walking distance to Downtown Flagstaff, particularly the revitalized South-side district known for unique funky eateries and bars. At the end of our street, cross Milton/Route 66, and turn down Mike’s Pike and you’ll find The Toasted Owl for a more relaxed truly Funky Flagstaff breakfast or lunch on the patio or inside. Mother Road Brewing company is across the street from the Toasted owl. Fratelli's Pizza and Beaver Street Brewery, both highly recommended, are around the corner. It's so great to be in town but close to trails. We love staying here when we visit town and we hope you will too. ANY QUESTIONS, JUST ASK :)

WALKING TO TOWN & PLACES TO CHECK OUT: The best breweries and restaurants of South Side ARE within walking distance, for an English person anyway, IF you follow these directions ☺ Cross the street and walk down Clay Ave, you will reach Matador Coffee. Cross Milton and you will see a sign for Mike's Pike (Road runs diagonal to Milton) Walks down Mikes Pike and you will see Mother Road Brewing, Toasted Owl and around the Corner Fratelli's Pizza; ALL GREAT! And beyond that many more great establishments: Dara Thai, Beaver St Brewery, Historic Brewery, Lumbermans (crowded and noisy), Macey's Coffee, Bellagio for breakfast, Raw with it's stunning rooftop bar, The Patio and more. Across the tracks, you will find The Visitor Center, and North side. If you don't like to walk, stop here. But if strolling around a walkable Historic town is your idea of fun then continue on to Fire Creek Coffee (Live music/poetry/storytelling) and beyond. Karma is a local favorite sushi place, Flagstaff Brewery is good for live music and reasonably priced food. Head up San Francisco St, you’ll find art galleries, boutiques and Creolo, Latin American cuisine, another local favorite and dozens more eateries around Heritage Square plus more breweries, pubs, historic hotels, tea shops , coffee shops, wine bars and music venues. If you don't want to walk more than a couple of blocks from the cottage, try Mike and Rhonda's for Breakfast and Himalayan Buffet for lunch or dinner. Natural grocers is at the end of the street. Matador coffee is truly great Java. Sprouts and Safeway/Walgreens/Target are a super quick drive heading South.

The location allowed for easy access to the activities we had planned downtown. Will definitely return should our vacation take us back to Flagstaff.

Lilac Cottage was awesome for my two sons and me. I really loved the antiques and decor. The location was perfect for touring around the area (Mt. Humphrey's hike & sunset, Painted desert, Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater, lava cave, and downtown Flagstaff). It was a bit warm when would return each afternoon without A/C (but a lot better than the 120 degrees in Phoenix) but very pleasant in the morning and evening. The train was not an issue. With the fans and sleep sound machines we brought, we could not hear the train at night. Maddie was a great host, and we would definitely stay at the Lilac Cottage again.

The cottage fondly reminded me of my first apartments...plaster walls, high ceilings, cute little kitchen. The living room has seating that doubles as beds ( day beds). The main bedroom has double doors. Wood floors. Very clean. Everything we needed. Washer and dryer were handy. Walking distance to historic downtown if you enjoy walking. Sunny. Antique furniture. Comfortable bed. Very nice, restful stay while waiting for my wife to come off of a grand canyon rafting trip.

A great location for walking to the historic downtown. The kitchen has everything you need to get good use out of it. Flagstaff itself is central to a lot of different national parks, as well as within easy reach of Sedona. I'd happily stay at this property again.
