Old Lyme, Connecticut
Our home offers the charm of old and the convenience of the new! We added on to the original 1940 cottage to create a new 2400 sq. ft. home that is perfect for hosting extended families. Now with full AC! Sleeps 12 comfortably with 2 full baths, one on the first floor. 4 bedrooms (upstairs and down) including a 'kids' bunk room that sleeps 6. The game and TV room, enclosed front porch with a children’s play area, and the airy and sunny breezeway for morning coffee or dining offers plenty of room to spread out. Our large private outdoor space is comfortable for cookouts and dining on the covered porch or for visiting by the fire pit. The shaded yard has room to play and we have plenty of parking off the street - not common! Our shed is full of beach gear and lawn games and the outdoor shower is perfect for returning after a beach day. Short walk to the beach, ice cream, conveniences, and the Sound View carousel. Please, no pets or smoking in the house.
We think you'll love our cottage's cleanliness and friendliness as much as we do. The indoor/outdoor spaces are perfectly set-up for families! Ask us about winter rentals! Week-only rental in Jul/Aug. 3-day min/ holidays. Family gatherings - yes! Big party crew, not the place.
We had a great stay. House was very nice and had air conditioning. Walk to the beach.
This is a wonderful property for families. Plenty of space, indoor and outdoors. Very well equipped including, beach chairs, beach toys, puzzles, games, foosball table to keep kids happy. Close walk to beach, carousel, Italian ice and Sound View donuts. We were 3 generations and all had a Great time ! Very clean, comfortable beds and air conditioners in bedrooms
We were able to rent this property near my great aunt's old stomping grounds. Cousins were able to meet for the first time and bunk in the same room - board games and card games provided were awesome and really added to the family friendliness of the stay. We had plenty of room to spread out on the porch each day and the kitchen was well appointed which is important to a mother of 5. Communication with the owners was great and check in and check out were smooth. We would stay here again. It was so close to the beach, grocery stores, shops, restaurants, and etc that we always had plenty of options. The outdoor games and the firepit were awesome too. Just a great time!
One of the reasons for our trip was to revisit Long island Sound and the Connecticut River where my children grew up. Went to Essex, Old Saybrook, Waterford and Mystic. We knew Old Lyme in general, but not the specific area near the cottage. The cottage is a great place for a family gathering. There was plenty of room inside and outside for adults and teens, who sometimes want their own space. The house was very clean and neat. The beach was not crowded.. Thanks to Judy's suggestions of local places to go, we rented kayaks and paddle boards one day. Great fun. Swam in Uncas Pond, which is a hidden gem . One of my favorite places is the Griswold Museum in Old Lyme. Ate lobster; walked to get ice cream at night. What more can i say? Thanks, Judy.
Great house for a group, there are lots of different places to sit and gather, affording privacy if you want that and group settings as well.
We had a marvelous vacation at this charming, relaxed beach house. The neighborhood is full of small cottages, and this house is (just as described) a perfect combination of new construction and old charm. It's simple and comfortable, perfect for a family with small children. The beach is also great for kids as it has lots of shallow area with gentle waves that feel comfortable for those just learning to swim. This is clearly a beloved family home, full of books and puzzles guests can enjoy. We definitely hope to return.
This is a great family beach house just a short 5 min walk to a beautiful beach (That was never crowded -although we went on weekdays only). The hosts were incredibly responsive and wrote back immediately to our needs. We happened to be there during one of Connecticut's worst power outages and they brought us flowers and fresh watermelon. We also met the friendly neighbor Jerry who brought us ice cream several times. The house is a short walk to a snack bar, wonderful ice cream shop and Italian ice stand. The owner also told us about a nearby lake/swimming hole that was great for our son (very calm and warm). The house itself is great for families with toys and games included. The only major drawback was lack of AC. We went in mid August and it was VERY hot. The house is well stocked with fans, but even they couldn't ease the heat. Earlier summer months I'm sure are much more comfortable, I also think they mentioned they might put in AC next year (but just something to keep in mind if your planning to go in August). Overall we had a great stay, it's a great price for a great location!
Great layout, amenities, location!
A real Connecticut shore summer beach experience (heat and humidity included! :-) in a well-stocked, clean home. Owners have thought of just about everything to make one's stay comfortable and well-informed. Only thing that might be added is ceiling fans in the downstairs bedrooms.
Beautiful place to stay very family oriented clean has everything you need would recommend it to anyone the only thing I do purpose is that it get very hot upstairs maybe air conditioner would be nice with only being used at late night to early morning
