Tropical Garden View 2 bed, 2 bath at Sanibel Moorings #232

Rating Details: The property manager was very unhelpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was somewhat unhappy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We were at Sanibel Moorings for 1 week and the place is nothing like it used to be. We have been visiting Sanibel Moorings for more than 30 years and were told when we booked at the beginning of December 2023, that we would be able to get a Condo on the ground floor. We called at the beginning of March to ask about restaurants that were open and were told none of the Ground Floor condos would be available for 6 condos our party had booked. This was the first of many disappointments we would encounter. They are charging double what they used to and offering much less and have the nerve to charge you for a 2nd parking pass when the parking lot is empty. There is only 1 pool available, the beach is full of seaweed, the grounds are beds of mulch and the no seeums eat you alive if you dare to go outside the condo. The only staff friendly to us for the entire week was Bill in the office and when we checked out, the office staff did not even ask us about our stay. They just cared about getting our money. There are no Washer/dryer in the Units, and you must take flashlights, as there is no lighting in the complex at night. Also, lots of noise during the day from workmen. However, we tried to make the best of our time, but the bugs are a real problem, especially for the younger kids. Most of the restaurants and stores on Sanibel are not open, however Doc Fords, Cheeseburger Cheeseburger and Island Pizza are. Captiva seemed to be in much better shape which made us sad for Sanibel. We left very dissatisfied with that experience.

Everything we needed was in the rental, which made our stay relaxed and comfortable. Reconstruction is still happening, but it has no impact on our stay. The crews are polite and respectful and the staff does a fantastic job at making sure guests needs are met.

The apartment was clean, up-to-date, temperature was set perfectly. We used the kitchen for dinner most nights, nicely equipped. The only issue we had was low water pressure in the Master bathroom, but we used the second bathroom and that one had good water pressure. We will be back for Thanksgiving Week...can't wait!

Weather was perfect and the beach was beautiful. The no see ums were furious but that is out of anyone’s control. Jerrys was well stocked with all the bug repellent that helped.

Everyone was upbeat about the recovery. The resort seems to be getting back on it's feet.

Just to list a few... we loved the full kitchens in the units stocked with everything you’d need to make meal for an entire family. The proximity to the beach whether you are staying on the dockside of beachside is wonderful. The front office staff are extremely kind and helpful, and were able to accommodate the few times we interacted with them. If you love lush landscapes, the moorings is the best. It’s a lovely place to just walk around and see all the different plant life they have, it’s all labeled as well, a true botanical garden. Every condo being individually decorated makes it even easier to customize what’s important in a rental for each particular family. For example, we wanted a unit where the secondary bedroom had two twin beds rather than a full, where there units that have a full bed/queen instead. Our family hopes to visit again next year and many times again, thank you to the staff and owners for making this a magical beach paradise.

We love having a boat slip to use for the entire vacation.We work a long year, owning a commercial concrete company, so we come on vacation to relax and get away from paperwork, etc. When we called the front desk to inquire about certain unknowns we were told to READ THE BULLET POINTS and the welcome guide. When we called to inquire about finding beach towels we were told we did not READ THE PAPER correctly. I think instead of making your guests feel like an inconvenience it should be understood that some people do not want to thoroughly read through each piece of paper. It may be a better practice to provide great customer service and simply tell the guest what they would like to know. The condo second bathtub needs some work. The spout is very hard to pull up in order to use the bathtub. There was a dead rodent near the trash can in the kitchen, but due to feeling like an inconvenience to the front staff, we did not call for maintenance to remove it.The sheet of paper states that bedspreads, blankets and beach towels are not exchangeable. I think it would be nice to know, on that sheet, that beach towels MUST be rented. I also believe that a unit, depending on size, should accommodate enough beach towels, FREE OF CHARGE, for the duration of the stay. Charging $5.00 to rent a towel seems very petty when you pay top dollar for a condo rental.

The only issues were the traffic noise and the big bugs. The 232 unit is NOT a Court yard or Tropical Garden view but rather it faced East Gulf Road. Road noise from speeding traffic during the day made taking an afternoon nap very difficult. Fortunately,I only tried to do this once. Thankfully, the traffic died down in the evening. At different times, I encountered four big roaches on the bathroom and the kitchen floors. Fortunately they were dying or dead making them easy to get rid of. Those were the only issues. I paid for maid service after two of the four weeks I stayed there and it was well worth the money. Housekeeping staff did an excellent job. Overall the Moorings is a great place to stay, however, for the money, I would not stay in 232 because of the road noise. I know they can take care of the bugs.
