Winter Park, Colorado
Our Winter Park, Colorado condo has all the amenities:
* Largest one-bedroom layout
* Corner unit offers additional light, air, back-door entrance for convenience.
* Full-size kitchen with granite countertops and new appliances
* 55' LED TV with Blu Ray
* Living room is comfortable and spacious with gas fireplace
* Pool and hot tub right down the hall
* Back door connects to large shared patio with mountain views (patio not shoveled in winter)
* Comfortable queen-size bed, plus a Murphy bed and pull-out couch with upgraded memory foam mattress for comfort
* Ski Depot just outside our door--rent your skis here or store them overnight for no charge
* Shuttle stop just outside--one stop to the base area (or just ski there).
* Four people sleep here comfortably.
We have a great location and have put a lot of care and expense into upgrading the unit but there are some things you should know about Iron Horse that fall outside of our control yet may affect your decision to rent:
* The unit is warm when all windows are closed. The source of the heat is unclear (we've researched it with the HOA board and apparently it's just a fact of Iron Horse). We installed all new windows in the summer of 2016 to ensure that every window (five total) can be opened, as can the back door. We installed a ceiling fan in the bedroom and provide a floor fan in the living room. When we stay, we keep at least one window open all night, summer or winter, even in subzero weather. A few inches is usually enough in cold weather, and we love the mountain air. Fortunately, nights are cool winter and summer at 9,200 feet. If you are uncomfortable having windows open, you may be unhappy in our unit.
* Because the unit is ground level near the driveway, you may hear buses or snow-removal equipment when they are operating. The snow-removal machines start early in the morning and beep while backing up (although only on days with new snow). We've raised it with the Iron Horse board and they insist they cannot adjust the time the machines operate, so be aware that if it snows, you will hear beeping noises early morning for ten or twenty minutes. We've provided earplugs if you are a light sleeper--please check under the bathroom sink.
Iron Horse has a lot of fans (including us), and we book fully during the high seasons, with many happy repeat guests. We want you to be aware of these quirks of Iron Horse so that you can decide for yourself whether it's the right place for you.
THE RESORT:
The Iron Horse is located at the base of the mountain between the Winter Park and Mary Jane sides of the ski area. We're a short walk or shuttle bus ride to the main base area, which features many shops and restaurants. Be sure to visit Vertical Bistro & Tap, the best full-service restaurant in the area. Say hi to the owner, Tim Hubbard, a longtime friend (he's the guy in the photo at the top of a chute on a powder day).
The Iron Horse has a hot tub onsite, an indoor/outdoor heated pool, and a steam room, with luxury locker rooms included for your use. There's also a fully outfitted exercise room with weights and cardio machines.
THE SKIING:
Winter Park is the third largest ski resort in Colorado and a local's favorite. It's known internationally as a mountain for serious skiers, with plenty of good runs for beginners and novices too (generally the steeper bumpier terrain is on the Mary Jane side and the blue-green cruisers are on the Winter Park side). There is a massive terrain park with half pipe, rails and jumps. There are also separate beginner and intermediate terrain parks. You can rent equipment onsite at Ski Depot, just across the drive from the condo.
Note that we will withhold $50 from the damage deposit for each missing parking pass (currently there is a main pass and a 2nd pass for less-busy periods). We have to pay for a replacement if they disappear.

The location of this condo was great. Quick access to the ski locker and the Corridor trail with access to the Winter Park Base. There is a fairly flat section of this cat-track, so be prepared to pole/skate a bit. Coming home in the afternoon for lunch was quick & easy and a great way to save money vs. on-mountain food, however, you must ski the blue square Mary Jane run, which may be difficult for beginners. The description & noted warnings of the condo were accurate. It is a warm unit and we had windows open, even with single-digit temps. The tile floors felt heated, which was great for cold toes and wet ski boots. Each morning, our boots were dry and warm. The snow plows started 5:30AM, although they quickly moved on to other areas. One of the most important aspects of a good condo for us is the bedding. The master bed and the Murphy bed were both extremely comfortable and plenty of linens, blankets, and pillows were provided. My family of four all got great sleep on the beds. We did not test out the sofa bed. Ned was very communicative and easy to reach pre-arrival and during our stay and was a great host. We experienced an issue with the shower which was quickly addressed. Our only other concern was the overall cleanliness upon arrival. Perhaps because it was New Year's Eve, the cleaning crew wasn't as detailed as they should have been. Ned had a crew out the next day to address our concerns. Overall this is a great condo in a great location with great hosts!
Perfect location for siso to winter park. Host communicated very well. Will come back!
The property itself was very nice but the condo I stayed in was ground floor and had windows looking out to construction which was very loud every day and everyone could walk by and see in my condo unless I kept the blinds and windows completely shut. It was very warm in the condo which the owner had said, but you had to have the windows open And prop the front door open to get some kind of draft through the condo! Workers were right outside my window, working on the patio and people using patio outside my windows! ! Ifelt very unsafe and I am a single female staying there. The condo had a new TV but when I called the owner to get some direction on how do use all three controllers, all he said, is it self-explanatory. When I was trying to check in, I could not get on the Wi-Fi so I could not check my phone for the numbers to get in the property. It took me two hours back-and-forth with the owner just to get him to finally give me the codes again when ever I did ask him a question he never really answered. Just beat around the bush. Needless to say I was exhausted by the time I got in the unit , once again, the property itself is beautiful and after self exploring, I found everything in the building and was able to hike into the village from the property. I would recommend the property, but would never recommend this particular unit for anyone you had to move furniture to put the Murphy bed down and hit your shins moving around. Unit dirty & not Covid cleaned. I had to clean!
Well appointed space close to the slopes. Would stay here again!
Unit has been completely updated/renovated and in a great location in Iron Horse. Had all of the amenities for making meals or just enjoying time in front of the fireplace! Would definitely recommend and we will put this at the top of our list for returning to Winter Park.
Couch is very uncomfortable to sit on because the seat area is so large. If you want to sit on the couch with your back against the couch’s back then your feet won’t be on the floor. I liked the Murphy bed. Kitchen is fine and well equipped. Bathroom is very small. Tub/shower has no place to put a bar of soap except on the edge of tub.
Loved the first floor location and ski in ski out. Nicely updated.
My sons and I stayed the weekend here and were pleasantly surprised at how close to was to the resort and how easy it was to take the Lift bus to the resort. It was small, but as advertised, but just enough for a couple or small family.
We will definitely come back!!!
I thought this place was very nice and met all of our expectations. The location of this specific place is the BEST!!! My only complaint is the couch. It looks nice but is not comfortable at all. An upgrade to the couch and chair would be a great idea. The rest is awesome.
We lived our stay here! The condo was clean and comfortable. We were able to use the pool and hot tub without any issues. An easy walk to the Winter Park Resort area… so much to see and do. We would love to come back during ski season as well!
The floors had not been swept, mopped. The rug under the table was just disgusting(really dirty) the stove had grease all over it. Table had a film/dust on it as well.
Perfect for our quick trip. The owners were very easy to work with.
Ned is a great host. We’ll be back next year.
Enjoyed the condo and the skiing. Hard to get more convenient
Wonderful place to stay with ski-in/ski-out @ Winter Park. Excellent communication when we had questions. Fun place to stay!
