Santiago, Region Metropolitana
Our 2 bedroom, 2 bath condominium is on the 16th floor of a modern high-rise building with a spacious and secure, wifi-enabled lobby & 24-hour manned security desk. It is located in downtown Santiago, at the intersection of Catedral and Teatinos streets, 3 blocks from two different metro stops (Line 5, green line) and within walking distance of most downtown monuments, Plaza de Armas, La Moneda, the Municipal Cathedral and museums, as well as the famous pedestrian-only shopping street, La Ahumada. It's close to the Universidad de Chile. Nearby Metro stops are SANTA ANA and PLAZA DE ARMAS -- our apartment is between the two. (A map of the extensive Santiago Metro system is found on Wikipedia and In the guidebooks and maps in the apartment.) We are only 1-2 stops (no transfers) from the Bellas Artes Museum and its wonderful collection. On our Metro line (Linea 5) you can travel directly to the Plaza Florida Mall (one of the biggest in the city) and to the Bodega/Winery of Santa Carolina (4th largest in Chile and one of the most historic).
Our apartment has maps, brochures, and ideas for making the most of your visit to Chile, including a road map of the country (for you to borrow while you are here). Our kitchen has some staples, such as coffee, salt/pepper, tea, pasta and other non-perishable foods so you don't find an empty pantry before you find the stores. There are mini-markets right downstairs on the corner and two full grocery stores within 3 blocks. There is a nice spa with gym and pool at The Gran Palace Hotel, also about 3 blocks away ($10 per visit, about $115 per month, including towels, locker, sauna).
From our 16th floor balcony you have a view of the city and the snow capped Andes mountains.
Everything in the apartment is in good condition, including the dishes, kitchenware, linens, towels, and furniture. There is a full size sofa in the living room and two contemporary leather side chairs, and the dining area seats six. Each bedroom has its own bath and both have blackout curtains (new in 2018). The master bedroom has a sliding door to the balcony. There is a separate home office area with workspace for your computer, and a high-speed WiFi connection. (WiFi is also available free in the building lobby and there are cheap internet cafes all over the city.)
The traditional Chilean-style kitchen has a sit-down bar area and outdoor balcony (called a loggia) with a new (2017) electric LG washer/dryer, washtub, and storage space - its window opens to the exterior for fresh air. There are also community laundry facilities on the 25th floor penthouse level (tokens required, available in the laundry room).

Over the years, I have stayed in numerous rental properties. This might be my best experience yet. I used to live in Santiago years ago, and I went back for two weeks to visit friends during which time I stayed here. The apartment was very clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything you could need (especially in the kitchen). The apartment is beautifully and tastefully decorated, and the view from the balcony of the cordillera (Andes) is wonderful. Given the length of my stay, it was great that there is a washer and dryer which both worked well. The building has a person 24 hours at the front desk which makes the building safe and secure. And the location of the building, right in the heart of downtown and a short walk from the Plaza de Armas, the historic center of Santiago, puts you within easy reach of all the sites. There is also easy access to multiple Metro stations, grocery stores, and restaurants. The place is perfect! Last but not least, the host, Hugo Silva who lives in the United States, was extremely responsive, gracious, and accommodating. We spoke on the phone. He answered all of my questions. One of his family members who lives in Santiago was there to meet me on check in day, give me the keys, and show me how everything worked. Hugo even checked in on me upon my arrival to make sure everything went smoothly. From beginning to end, Hugo made the experience stress-free and easy to navigate. The whole experience was extraordinary.
From the moment our booking was accepted, Hugo was making sure all of our questions were answered. He provided tips about the local restaurants and grocers so we were able to hit the ground running. Santiago is a big city with many neighborhoods worth exploring. This location is perfect to discover the beginning of the capital of Chile. Just 3.5 blocks from the apartment is the plaza where it all began in 1541. Plaza de Armas, the heart of the city, features the cathedral, a historical museum, a beautiful park with fountains and statuary. Additionally, it is a station to the subway, along with Santa Anna, 2 blocks the opposite direction from the apartment. Using the subway, you can be almost anywhere in the city within 30 minutes. Two nice grocery stores within two blocks, cafes restaurants, currency exchanges within walking distance make this a great starting place for discovering Santiago. This is a place where people live and work so you can get a real feel of life in this great Chilean city. If you want to explore further, the nearby subway stations can connect (under $1.00 per ride) you to inexpensive buses (under $10.00 each way) to take you to the agricultural/wine valleys of Casablanca or Colchagua or even all the way to the coast where you find the beach town of Vina del Mar or the port city of Valporaiso. All within 1.5 hours. The owner's brother and nephew live and work nearby. They met us when we arrived and were very responsive to questions that arose. The unit was secure, very comfortable, very clean and met our needs admirably.
Great location, clean, well supplied (kitchen, bathroom and a wonderful welcome gift!). Highly recommended!
Hugo and his brother Patricio are great hosts. They even brought us wine as a gift! The condo has a doorman so feels very secure. The condo itself has everything you would need. We appreciated having the second bathroom which is hard to find. There is a lovely bakery and deli 2 doors down.
My adult daughter and I really enjoyed spending a week in this well-located, artfully decorated apartment in downtown Santiago. We were walking distance to many tourist attractions, restaurants and public transportation. The hosts were very accommodating and treated us so well before and during our visit, making our stay extra special and comfortable. The unit is located within a secure high rise with 24-hour security at the front desk. The views of the mountains at sunset and sunrise from the balcony are spectacular! We highly recommend staying here.
Beyond the fact that the apartment is wonderful, sparkling clean, and in a great central location (loved all the wonderful pedestrian walkways and markets), what REALLY set this apart was the support and responsiveness of Hugo, the owner. We ended up having a medisl issue, requiring a trip to a local clinic. Reached out to Hugo for advice, and he called immediately to ensure we were oksy, gave us a referral to a wonderfu private clinic, and offered to have his brother come over to assist. Thank you!!!
Our host went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Arrived to welcome goodies and a well furnished apartment. The property is secured and staff very friendly. The location was great for walking to the museums, restaurants etc. They gave us many tips for food and things to do. Thank you Hugo and family. We leave with very nice memories. Aloha, Linda and Terry
The apartment was even more than we expected. The central location encouraged walking everywhere. One can see the Andes from the balcony. The owner has anticipated your every need. Be pleasantly surprised when you rent this condo. Marilyn Jensen &Judith Tracy Tucson, Az
Hugo and his brothers were incomparable in their welcome, their availability and their kindness. The apartment is very comfortable, very well equipped and strategically located in the city center close to public transport. He is very safe and a guard is on duty at the entrance. Two grocery stores are within a 5-minute walk. The terrace allows you to enjoy the view of the Andes. We enjoyed our one month stay in Santiago largely because of the comfort of the apartment. We highly recommend this apartment.
We just spent a week visiting our daughter who is taking a semester abroud in Santiago and we could not have had a better stay. Hugo, the owner was incredibly helpful before we got there and his brother Patricio took really good care of us while we were there. I rarely give a 5 star rating but I do so for this property without hesitation.
