Ludington, Michigan
Now for the story:
Our English Cottage was built in 1930 on the top of a dune rise. It sits only 350 footsteps from Stearns Beach, one of the top-rated beaches on Lake Michigan. The house is in an exclusive neighborhood of large and historic homes. You won’t find a better location in Ludington (or maybe the whole world!).
For instance, you can pack your towels and walk to the beach in five minutes. The same short walk in another direction will take you downtown, to the harbor, or to play parks for your children. Many guests tell us they enjoy brewing a morning coffee and walking to the lighthouse or the harbor to watch the S.S. Badger and the herring gulls pass by. (Of note, the first log home in Ludington was built on this property.)
The first floor is renovated with high ceilings, a bay window, French doors, and arches. The floor plan features a center hall, leading to three bedrooms, one with a sunroom facing west towards the lake. There is a private master bedroom bath and a full hall bath. All the ornate, original radiators remain. (We plan to keep them forever!)
The second floor has a kitchen, full bath, dining area, and one bedroom with a queen bed. There is a queen futon and a sturdy rollaway bed for sleeping. You can reach the second floor through either outside or inside exits.
Outside, you'll have a gathering area on a covered porch (great for coffee or cocktails). The yard is sloped and contains a fire pit, charcoal grill, picnic table, and chairs (enough for everyone).
The first and second floor and the grounds are included in the rental. The basement and garage are reserved for the owners' use.
There are two small parking spots on the garage apron and one at the motel office. We have a large corner lot where parking is allowed at the curb for cars, boats, and trailers up to 22 feet in length. (There is a 6-unit motel on the property as well. If you wish to rent extra rooms for your guests, you can book them through us.)

This was a great home to stay in for a week with our 6 children. Plenty of space and everything we needed for the week! We loved having everything furnished in this house! The waffle maker and mixer came in especially handy for big breakfast mornings! We will definitely be back!
The house was large enough for my family of 11. It was walking distance to the beach, restaurant, parks, shops and great ice cream (House of Flavors) We had a wonderful time!
My husband and I rented this property for a family get togehter with children and grandchildren. The location of the property was perfect. We enjoyed walking to the beach, lighthouse, marina and downtown. The house was very roomy and well stocked with towels, bedding, etc., and supplies such as toilet paper, dish soap, dishwasher soap, etc. The only thing that we thought could use some improvement was the outdoor area; the firepit and grill provided were very old.
We had a group of 12 family members stay and the house was great for that size group! We all enjoyed so much thanks! We would rent this house again for sure!
Wonderful place to stay in Ludington. House was very clean and had lots of space, beds were comfortable, living room was comfortable, it was perfect , being so close to the beach was my favorite part of location.
We had 4 families, a total of 13 (5 kids aged 4-13, 8 adults). My husband and I stayed in the master, the family with the 4 and 6 year olds stayed upstairs and another family stayed in the remaining bedrooms. It worked best for us to have 1 family stay in a motel room, much more room for all that way. The house worked great for us. We had a wonderful time and itโs so convenient to the beach and all of downtown especially House of Flavors. Everyone had a great time
The pictures do not do this place justice. We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed all the amenities. There was plenty of room for all of us and the location was perfect to experience all that is good in Ludington. We enjoyed being within walking distance of so many fun things. Will definitely consider this home again in the future.
We very much enjoyed our stay. The house is lovely and quaint, and is perfectly located to enjoy Ludingtonโs beautiful beach and downtown area.
We really enjoyed the extra room, with the large living room and game table. The bathrooms were above average. Everything in the kitchen worked fine, and there were plenty of plates and cutlery and pans/baking trays. The location was two short blocks to the minigolf/ lakeshore park, and a few blocks to the shops along the main street. Sad that Bierkamps was out of business, so had to drive for groceries. We went to Ludington State Park each day but were happy that we stayed in town so we could walk out to the lighthouse daily, walk for ice cream and shopping, and the BookMark bookstore/cafe was only a pretty, half-mile walk, past the marina. Only complaint is that they don't allow laundry use. I could hear the washer going in the basement under my bedroom, and there is a 4 night minimum stay, so we could have really used that! The laundry place was a couple of miles away, back through downtown.
5th annual girls trip with 8 women. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Kitchen and bathrooms clean (although no hand soap provided). Convenient location to wall to the beach, marina or downtown. Owner very responsive to any communication. House is old but maintained well. Upstairs unit was a surprising bonus!
