Quiet Hatteras Duplex with Decks ~ 1 Mile to Beach

Everything was goid, except for the inverted floor plan. I'm handicapped, a d lugging my ice chest and dry goods up 36 steps was a little rough on me.

This is a cute beach house. If you're going with your partner and you are used to sleeping in a small/full size bed, you'll be ok. The beds are definitely NOT queen beds. My husband and I weren't able to sleep in the master bed together as it dipped severely in the middle and measured as a full. My son (who is 6'3) feet hung off his bed. It was also supposed to be a queen. He fits on his queen at home, so this was definitely not a queen. The decks were in disrepair and had soft spots and nails sticking up. Wear shoes if you plan to be on the decks. We didn't sit out much. The back view was less than desirable with a run down home and what looked like just a junk yard. If you don't mind the smell of cigarette smoke, you'll be ok. We weren't in the house enough to even report it. It says it's a no smoking property, but the people next door definitely smoke. There were two roaches that we saw, but those were the only bugs we saw and I believe that might be inevitable. Don't expect top of the line cooking items, they were subpar at best. Some of the pots/pams had dried food on them. We couldn't connect to the internet, again not a big deal for us, but none of the passwords they provided worked.

I thought this would be an amazing property to stay at because it was close to the beach and dining options in the adorable village of Hatteras. From the first moment we opened the door, this place was a nightmare!! The house REEKS of cigarette smoke!! I immediately messaged the owner via text (I have since learned we should always message on the platform). I informed her the house had someone actively smoking in it at the time (the house is registered as a duplex, but it must have been converted as a duplex, and not originally built as a duplex. There is no fire wall between the units, only an interior door so you can hear the tv's and people talking on just the other side. The units seem to share the same air system (Note: I am not an licensed HVAC person, but the fresh cigarette smoke was coming into OUR ventilation system.)) And when I say someone was actively smoking in the unit, I expected to see someone at the kitchen table with a lit cigarette. The owner seemed to brush off my concerns and only said Yeah, it's another tenant. We will speak with them. She certainly knew of this issue BEFORE our arrival!! ONLY after repeated messages to the owner complaining about the stench of the smoke, did the smoking stop INSIDE of the rental. I noticed the lack of fresh smoke on the afternoon of day 5 of our 6 day stay, after our return from the beach.. it smelled like stale smoke. Yay!! Water bugs throughout our stay & the outdoor shower needed to be fixed. It was fixed on day 5

Nice location and lot for fishing and parking with boat and trailer

Property is great, nice location. House is bright and fun. Loved the layout. However, two roaches crawled out for us in the living room at different times, so that was not pleasant for the young one. The glass door does not lock what so ever, so that was a safety concern with a Two Year old who just learned to open doors. Upon check out, two men walked into the house 20 mins before the very early check out time on the lowest floor - no idea who they were, they did not bother us but we could hear them talking. Thought they were cleaning people and we felt rushed out of the house. Did not appreciate that. Apparently they were not cleaning people, so still unsure who they were.

Came down for a fishing trip with some work friends and had a great time staying here. Ideal location, right across from Oden's Dock, and about half a mile from Teach's. Its a great, roomy house, and the owner was great as well! THANKS!
