Richmond, Virginia
The Space:
Our condo is located in an iconic building with over 100 years of history. Spanning an entire city block, we share our building with the Hilton Hotel and have access to all of their amenities (including the gym and pool).
Our place is 1200 square feet with two bedrooms (one with a king bed and ensuite full bathroom, and the other with a queen bed and an additional full bathroom, with washer/dryer). The Gourmet equipped kitchen has granite and seating for four at the bar.
Lots of original art gives the place an eclectic air. Comfy couches and 55" HDTV with wifi. Incredible city views. Original wood floors, 12 foot ceilings. Very quiet!
The Neighborhood
Our condo is beautiful, but what makes it truly special is the city it's in. Richmond is the coolest city you've never heard a recent spate of publicity is changing that as we speak. Richmond ranked #3 in Travel and Leisure's best places to visit in 2016.
Foodie National Geographic Traveler picked the top six places in the world for food travelers in 2016 (to include Tokyo, New Orleans, Peru and Morocco) and Richmond topped the magazine's list. Conde Nast calls Richmond "The Southern food destination you need to know about". USA Today says, "Virginia’s capital has long been a destination for good grub, and in recent years, the dining scene has catapulted onto the national stage." A mainstay on the lists of places to eat in Richmond is Rappahanock (an Esquire 2014 Best New Restaurant) which is just one block away. There are dozens of restaurants within walking distance.
Beer lover Richmond is quickly becoming a major craft beer destination. With more than 20 craft breweries and more on the way, it's clear why the Wall Street Journal said Richmond "is home to one of the region's fastest growing beer scenes."
Art lover Uber over to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, which ranks as one of the top ten comprehensive art museums in the United States. Or, if you plan to be here on the first Friday of any month, you'll be in the middle of the First Fridays Art Walk, where galleries, shops, restaurants, non-profits, and more open their doors in celebration of art and community.
History buff A trip to Richmond provides a window into a past - 400 years as a hub of history and politics - that few other destinations offer. Richmond boasts some impressive American Revolution sites (like St. John's Episcopal Church, "Give me liberty or give me death") and an extensive chronicle of Civil War memorabilia (found in the American Civil War Museum or the Virginia Historical Society).
Outdoor enthusiast Richmond's location on the banks of the James River makes for a unique outdoor urban experience.
Water sports: RVA is the only urban setting in the U.S. with Class IV and V rapids. Whitewater rafting, tubing, kayaking, paddle available as guided tours or individual rentals.
Biking: If you are a biker (and Richmond was the home of the 2015 UCI Road World Championships) there's something for both mountain bikers and road cyclists. Mountain bikers will want to check out the 15 miles of trails in James River Park. Belle Isle offers sweat-inducing intermediate choices, while serious bikers should be challenged by the technical Buttermilk trail. The Virginia Capital Trail is a dedicated, paved pedestrian and bicycle trail that connects the Commonwealth’s past and present capitals of Jamestown and Richmond along the Scenic Route 5 corridor. The Trail traverses approximately 52 miles, four jurisdictions, and more than 400 years of history along one of the first inland routes in North America.
Hiking: For those of you on foot, the James River Park System is a 550+ acre natural oasis smack in the middle of the city. Opportunities abound for hiking, trail-running, rock climbing, fishing and more. It’s a sanctuary for humans and animals, so keep your eyes open and you may spot bald eagles, osprey, blue heron, otters, fox and muskrat. On Belle Isle, consider hiking the tranquil trail that skirts the perimeter of the island. To get to the island, you cross a suspension bridge that provides jaw-dropping views. The Richmond Canal Walk is an easy 1.25-mile paved trail. It is famed for the graffiti art murals that decorate the floodwalls and seamlessly blend with the striking river vistas.
Music Lover From classical to classic rock, from hip-hop to jazz, from indie to metal, the Richmond Region's diverse and exploding music scene means you'll be expanding your playlist after your visit. Whether it's annual music event such as the Richmond Jazz Festival or Richmond Folk Festival, Richmond has numerous music events for all genres and audiences. Outdoor concerts, historic music venues, rooftops and clubs give you a vast array of options to get your groove on. The National is across the street and The Carpenter Theater is next door.
Getting around
An underground, assigned parking space is included. Please note, though, that the space is quite small and larger vehicles might have difficulty parking.
Super convenient areas and wonderful condo!
Wonderful location, felt like home. Close to great restaurants and underground parking.
What can I say... This was as absolutely fantastic place to stay during our time in Richmond. The location is perfect to enjoy the downtown area and all there is to do. Our host, Lizzy, we very easy to work with and responsive to all of our questions and requests. We will definitely look to stay here again the next time we are in Richmond!
This is a delightful property in the heart of downtown Richmond. It's exceptionally clean and well stocked. Check-in was a breeze. Communication with the owner was exceptional. The location felt very safe. I would definitely stay here again.
Had a great time. Beautiful property. Would definitely come back.
Awesome experience.
My husband said that this was probably the nicest rental we've ever had and I agree! We were in town for a concert at The National, so finding a spot within walking distance was crucial. We've also had some issues with parking in the past, so the fact that Lizzy's' place included garage parking was such a huge relief to us. The apartment is gorgeous! It's bright, open, incredibly clean, and has this laid-back luxury vibe. Every detail and creature comfort was included, including coffee, extra blankets, fluffy soft towels, and toiletries. We were really appreciative that the owners were thoughtful enough to provide a large binder of information about where to eat and what to do in Richmond with maps, menus, and recommendations of their favorite places. Lizzy provided thorough directions for check-in and check-out and everything went very smooth. I wish all of our experiences with property rentals were like this! If we find ourselves in Richmond again, we will certainly stay here again. Thank you!!!
An immaculate , well furnished , perfect location with secure parking, within walking distance of great restaurants. Very nice owner
This spacious condo was a nice base for a cousin and I during a recent family history research trip to Richmond. We were within easy walking distance of the Library of Virginia. There were restaurants of different price ranges and food types in the area. We did not have to deal with securing parking each day at the library. Each evening we had ample room to relax. Wifi was available to access the library catalog to plan the next day's research and continue our research via the internet. There were other numerous attractions in the condo area. All in all a nice base from which we conducted our research at LVA!
My wife and I stayed here for 5 days, and the minute we arrived, we felt at home. In fact, it felt so comfortable there, I truly did not want to leave. I don't know where to begin; between the art/decor, the variety of books, the view, the amenities, and the location in proximity to lots of great places to visit (food, entertainment, etc.), there is no better place to stay in Downtown Richmond. I can't say enough about this place, and I have never really felt like I just didn't want to leave somewhere, until I stayed here. Also, the owner (Elizabeth) was very helpful in explaining the details and left no question unanswered. We highly recommend this place to anyone who either loves Downtown Richmond, or has never visited and is looking for a great place to stay while exploring a new, charming city.
