My family and I stayed for 2 nights, visiting Loon mountain for the Highland games. Upon entering the unit at Deer Park there was a nauseating cigarette smell in what was supposed to be a non-smoking unit. I’m not talking a faint smoke smell, this was strong and overpowering. The master bedroom was even worse. It was stale and overwhelming. Not to mention the unit was almost completely carpeted and it’s common knowledge that when you smoke indoors, the odor tends to encompass everything from carpet to furniture and clothing. You could smell it on the couch and in the bed linens much worse. We woke up after the first morning with headaches from the smell and even worse was that we had 3 young children with us, 2 of which are infants. We consider ourselves very reasonable and never complain, but we did reach out to the property manager after the first night. It was just disgusting. We were never offered to move, but rather told to tell the front desk. Apparently these rentals are private, but Deer Park is responsible for cleaning. They denied any odor, of course. And told us after the fact that we could have been moved to another unit. How would we know or expect that when we booked through vrbo from a private owner? Long story short is that we did complain because it was unacceptable and nothing was done to rectify the situation. We didn’t want to leave negative comments, we know that can negatively impact the ability to book renters, but we feel cheated and don’t want it to happen to another family. They actually tried to blame it on people smoking outside. Another note, we had to wash half of our clean clothes when we got home because they smelled like cigarettes. It was like people had been smoking in there for 20 years.
