This is a very comfortable home. Very clean and conveniently located. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back.
We arrived 12/26 around 6pm. The property has no external lights on, which was a bit of a bummer. Location is great for Tahoe Donner resort. The issues we had with the unit were that some of the comforters needed washing (smelled of body odor) and the heating system . There is no forced air in the whole house, just a heated fireplace that only worked briefly on the first night and a radiator/heating vent in the kitchen. There were space heaters in the bedrooms but they did not do much so we ran them a lot out of fear of being cold. The radiator in the kitchen brought warmth to that area and heat rose to the loft but it was worrisome the whole time. The instructions for the heating system was also terrible and incomplete and when we called maintenance, we got lots of you need to reset the heater and I don't know that house well that was also very irritating. One should not have to be an HVAC tech to turn the heat on. It soured our stay for sure and now I now why it was still available in early December when I booked. There was also some strange things like no handrails on the MANY of the steps up to the unit, which felt dangerous. The hood for the stove also juts our farther than the stove so while cooking I was worried I was going to smack my head. It does not seem up to code in that sense. Bathrooms were good and plenty of hot water. This rental is cheaper per night so if this oddities don't bother you, it's a solid location.
The A frame cabin is spacious and thoughtfully decorated! You can observe the night sky from the deck, and enjoy hot chocolate by the fireplace! The place was very clean and equipped with good amount of towels, cutlery, kitchen utensils. The dishwasher is not in an excellent condition though, the first time we ran it the pod did not get released, resulting in the dishes not getting cleaned.
We had stayed here for couple days, few problems that we had to go through on our vacations Pros : 1. The area is quiet, roomy and had lot of toys for kids. 2. The house is near to Donner lake and also to the grocery shop Safeway. 3. We enjoyed the patio in the night it was quiet, and airy. Cons : 1st Day 1. The garage was not available, we had to park the vehicle outside the garage, 2. The room smelled and it was dusty, my baby boy started sneezing the moment he entered. 3. There are spider webs, grass hoppers, beetle in the house, may be because of the forest area around. 4. The utensils were not clean and had to clean them before we could use. 5. The dishwasher did not work and clean the utensils, post a complaint the maintenance got it fixed the next day. 6. It was very warm the entire night we could hardly sleep, post a complain the maintenance Mr. Daniel got us 3 fans that helped to get a good sleep the next day. 2nd day 1. The shower handle broke and the water kept going on, on complaint the maintenance local manager helped to get a temporary fix. Thanks to the Vacasa maintenance that helped us as soon as possible to get the issues fixed.
This home has a rustic 80/90’s vibe. Best and important aspect was the two beds in the bedrooms were very comfortable. There are other beds to sleep more people if needed especially if you have several kids. Bathrooms were fine, showers have aged. Kitchen worked well but appliances such as the dishwasher might need to be updated since the panel fell off and the door falls open. TV worked and had good WiFi. Plenty of couches and all were comfortable but aging. Only issue and the management offered to spray was spiders. Big spiders in the lower bedroom and bathroom. While it was clean they had not removed spider webs and there were plenty. I am guessing it wasn’t occupied for a few days or so. I killed a total of 6 in 2 nights. Mostly from the bedroom and bathroom. Sorry I can’t sleep with spiders on the wall looking at me LOL. Overall it’s comfortable, nice location and useable kitchen but if you prefer more updated feel this isn’t the place for you.
Location and affordability
Many stairs to climb. Upstairs bedroom so crowded couldn’t move around. All beds and furniture uncomfortable and stained. All carpet was badly stained. Cleaning probably did the best they could. Outdoor deck furniture broken and completely uncomfortable. We left two days early -Just floor fans place in bad shape.
We booked a 4 night stay so we ( grandparents) could be with daughter and granddaughter as the 12 year old competed in a major divisional climbing event in Truckee. We were told we might be able to an earlier check in if no one was there the day before us. No one was there before but we were told, “Sorry, no early check ins” so we waited in the chill for 3 hours in front of an empty house. When 4 o’clock came we entered and it was very clean n looked perfect. Took 6 hours to get heat up from 44 to 54 degrees and a very helpful man was sent to help start fireplace heater but no luck starting so he returned with 3 space heaters. They helped a lot. The rest of the 4 day stay was great temp and a very nice place. Would stay again, n just ask they start the warming early as only one heat source took 8-10 hours to get inside up to 65 degrees.
Overall the stay was good. Tahoe is such a gem, and the weather was great so it'd be hard not to enjoy being up there. I took my folks for the weekend, and they were very appreciative that I got them out of town, and away from work. There were a couple issues, coffee pot didn't work, front of the dishwasher had fallin off, and the place had an unpleasant odor upon arrive but I wasn't going to say anything. I brought candles, we aired the place out, and there was a coffee shop not too far away. It wasn't that big of a deal, my family rolls over the bumps in the road, we don't get stuck on them. But I just listened to a message from the Vacasa staff that said, It's past 10a. check out is not 11a. it's 10a. and if you're not out of the property in the next 10 minutes I will contact law enforcement and have them escort you off the property! Are you serious!?! You're going to threaten us because we took a few extra minutes to double check the place? Because we left it immaculate, with no dishes to do, trash already out, minimum towels and beds to change? My folks are in their 70's, that would have been a nice end to the weekend. I'm just glad that they didn't hear the msg! As for me, I work in hospitality running a charter boat on the Sacramento River, and that's not how you treat your guests. No, that was totally uncalled for.
We had constant trouble with the heating system. Pilot light had to be restarted several times and the fireplace would not stay on despite multiple adjustments to its thermostat. It was exceptionally cold our first two nights, so this was a real inconvenience. The main heating system for the house is one floor register on the first level. With this unit turning off constantly, it is hard to keep the house comfortable. The dishwasher is falling apart - front panels fell off whenever it was opened and the soap dispenser did not open when we used the dishwasher. Needs to be replaced. Vacasa management company was very responsive to my texts and calls, however, the remote phone support did not solve the problems. The heating system is a serious distractor to the comfort of the house. Otherwise, the unit is well equipped and clean other than some cobwebs in the light fixtures and ceiling corners. The sliding glass doors need cleaning so guests can enjoy the views. Kitchen drawers need cleaning - crumbs in the silverware drawers. Carpets and couches are stained. It's a very worn look, but clean and adequate.
