The space
The Trail House is a great mountain getaway located just 15 minutes from the small town of Woodland Park. Guests enter through the front door which is three steps down from the parking area. Our home is comprised of 3 levels - the main floor which includes the living room, bathroom, kitchen, and dining area. Upstairs is a loft with a queen bed and downstairs are a full and twin bed, another bathroom, and utility room, with a washer and dryer, and a place to hang clothes. There are two decks the larger of which is located off the main floor and includes outdoor patio furniture along with a wrought iron table, umbrella and set of chairs. The other is located outside of the sliding door on the lower level. There is a private backyard but often it is covered with native plants.
On the drive up from Woodland Park you will have the chance to see some of Colorado's iconic wildlife such as elk, mule deer, fox, and wild turkeys. You'll also have some spectacular views of Pikes Peak.
From the summer festivals in Woodland Park, to the eclectic shops in Manitou Springs, to world class trout fishing, hiking and ATV trails, to numerous state parks and national forest recreation areas, to the excitement of casinos in Cripple Creek (which boasts the highest casino in the world!), not to mention all the activities in nearby Colorado Springs, highlighted by the Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, and Manitou Cliff Dwellings. We are confident that there is something for everyone to enjoy!
Guest access
Guests have access to the entire house.
Other things to note
***4WD or AWD is recommended during the spring, fall and winter since guests may experience winter conditions at any time, and Host is not responsible for guest towing.
Also, when using water (flushing the toilet, bathing, washing hands, laundry, dishes, etc.) you will hear the motor-type sound of our pump as it refills the tank. This is normal, and typically runs in short bursts. The pump is located in the laundry room under the stairs.
We loved our stay here with friends. So peaceful and not too far from civilization. The home was very well stocked and well appointed. It worked great for two couples each having their own bedroom and bath. We had a minivan for June/July which worked fine but a 4x4 during the fall through spring would be highly recommended!!
This house was just so perfect! We enjoyed the quiet surroudings, the awesome mountain views driving to the house, watching deer wander by the house to feed, and all the attention to detail in the house. Thank you Jim, Nicole, and family for a wonderful time near the mountains around Woodland Park!
Took my wife here for a birthday getaway. It was nicely tucked away in the woods and close enough to town and to Manitou Springs for hikes, climbing, and good food. The place was neat, clean, and we had a family of deer come visit by the deck each morning! Couldn’t have been better.
A Nice getaway spot. It was exactly what we were looking for on our short notice 4 day weekend. The house had all the things needed in a VRBO. The kitchen was well stocked with all the utensils and cook ware you would need. All appliances worked with no issues. The linens and beds were clean and comfortable. No issues with the bathrooms. Check in was seamless and house was clean except for anticipated small things like some passed away spiders in the sinks. I did not realize the main bedroom was in the loft area and its bedroom was down a flight of stairs on the main level but that was not a problem for my wife or me. The location does have a bit of dirt road to drive. We understood this and was not a problem but by day 4 it was a little tiring. A nice quiet retreat. I really enjoyed reading on the secluded porch and listening to the munching of the deer as they fed right under the deck, amazing.
