This is the perfect house to accommodate your family/group and take advantage of everything that Beech Mountain has to offer, including skiing, hiking, biking, and fishing. High-speed wifi and TV's in each room. Fully furnished basement with two sets of bunk beds, great for kids to have their own "hang out area." Please ensure the damper is OPEN prior to using the fireplace.
My friends and I have been using VRBO for our yearly ski trips for the last few years. In all of my years of using the app, I’ve never had a more frustrating experience than this. In the days leading up to the trip, I never received check in information although I had received email confirmation of the booking. While this should have been a red flag for me, I didn’t think much of it. At 3:30 on the day of check in, I messaged the host if they could provide the check in information for our 4pm check in. When I checked the app, all I saw was a notice of BOOKING CANCELLED. No message, no phone call. I had to dig to even get a hold of Laura’s number to ask what happened. She explained that the house had been double booked on another housing platform and the other family booked the house first. Our group of ten was already at the slopes and we live 3 hours away, leaving us homeless. While the owner did try and help find other houses, you can imagine how scarce houses were at 4pm for ten people on the day of check in. Her suggestions were also double the price of what we paid. I would in no way recommend this property or its management.
The property itself is nice but we faced many issues during our stay. The biggest issue is lack of sufficient hot water in which to bath or shower. There seems to be some problem with the water system which runs the home. In our week long stay we were not able to take adequate showers. The water was predominantly ice cold with intermittent shots of scalding hot water and at times water would not even run from faucets at all. The small space heaters provided would cause breakers to flip and the breaker panel is locked. We had to contact owner to get a key to get to the breakers to turn them back on. Being that we visited in the coldest season hot or even warm water and electricity is essential. The hot tub also was not properly maintained it smelled like a porta potty when we arrived. After finding chlorine tabs and testing strips we did our best to balance the water ourselves so that we could enjoy the hot tub. It is not ideal to have to do spa maintenance yourself as a guest. There was also a lack of other essential needs such as no batteries in TV remotes, no lighter to light fire pit, kitchen utensils were sparse, plates and cups chipped. No plastic containers only left over lids. This home has potential to be a good vacation experience but it seems there is just not enough attention given to both big and small details that would make or break a guests stay. The water and electricity issues alone would hinder me from recommending this home to anyone in the future.
This place was amazing. It had this cabin in the woods type of feel. You felt secluded even though in a short walk you could be at the recreation facilities. We were on Beech Mountain for a family gathering/reception. We rented this place to be close to my parents house just up the road. This house had everything we needed. We used the hot tub, played foosball, grilled out... Simply spectacular home to gather with your loved ones.
Great layout! Good for kids. Plenty of space for 2 families of 4.
Stayed for a weekend with 9 friends and this was the perfect cabin and location for us. Great space to hang out and relax after snowboarding! Everyone had comfortable beds and enough bathrooms that multiple of us could shower at a time after being on the mountain all day. Also loved the hot tub and outdoors space. Would definitely stay here again!
This review is two part because there was weather that created circumstances outside of our and the hosts control. The house is beautiful. Property gorgeous tucked away on a beautiful hill of Beech. There is a view through the bare trees of the mountain range and it is absolutely gorgeous sunrise and set. The house was easy to find and well stocked. Lots of sleeping space and room to have alone time if you don’t want to be underfoot with lots of people. The hot tub was nice and is located in the enclosed back porch. Overall it was 5* My concerns are mostly due to weather. There were no provisions for the power outages we experienced, and we could not get out for at least 24 hours. By no provisions I mean no generator, flashlights, or wood/wood starter and very few candles (those did not help with warmth in -34 weather). The other concern I have are the stairs from loft to main level and main level to bottom. They are VERY steep with little space to put your foot as you descend. 4 out of 9 from our group feel down the lower stairs at least once, and 2 fell from loft to main floor. I say all that to say it doesn’t change my 5*, but I am mentioning in an effort to warn other visitors to be very careful!
The property was OK. could be much better. Property needs a good deep clean. Unfortunately the Hot Tub was broken and that was the only reason we stayed there. First day the entrance was washed out, but was fixed the next day. The owner said they would give us a credit of $50 a night and they never did. Very disappointing.
Nice place for the family.
Our group of 8 had the best weekend staying at Bear's Beech House and will absolutely be back! Great location close to restaurants and coffee shop, attractions, and shopping. We greatly enjoyed the hot tub, fire pit, and wildlife around the house! 6 deer greeted us upon our arrival! Laura was a great host and was very communicative leading up to the stay. She was quick to reply during the weekend to help us with any needs that came up at the House. Book the stay - you won't regret it!
We had such a great time here! It was our first time staying in Beech and we loved it! The house is beautiful, super clean, spacious and had everything we needed and more. The beds are super comfy, which made us sleep in for a change! The hot tub was a great addition for the kids. One of the best parts was watching the deer all over! My kids LOVED it! This is one of those houses that we’ll keep an eye on for availability on our next trip. Thanks for having us!!!
We had the most amazing stay at Bear’s Beech House. A week was not enough we did not want to leave! The deer sightings were plentiful so many beautiful deer families! We saw a beaver and fox but the most memorable experience was watching (safely of course) from the sun room a mama bear and her cubs. They drank from the stream in the backyard and the cubs played and climbed a tree. We roasted Marshmallows and BBQ’d and just had a wonderful experience overall! The house itself accommodated both of our families with room to spare. It truly felt like home and heaven on Earth. You can count on the cleanliness and exceptional attention to detail. Our hosts Callan & Laura were very communicative, attentive, and kind. Everything went so smoothly we had no issues at all! Highly recommend and look forward to coming back and even visiting our hosts other properties!
This was a last minute trip for my husband and I to enjoy a long Anniversary weekend. The house was nicely appointed. We enjoyed the hot tub. Communication with the host was easy. We would rent again.
