Denmark, Maine
Nestled on the shores of Moose Pond under sturdy pine trees on a sandy beach. Our cottage is all set up for relaxing and regenerating. Listen to the loons each night while you have a campfire in the fire pit. Swim from our sandy beach. Situated twenty minutes from shopping in Bridgton and a half hour from tax free North Conway. Have dinner on the deck.
I am hesitant to write this because we had a great time and have re-booked for next year but there are issues and I will try to be honest about them. We are seasoned travelers and have stayed in every thing from tents to 5 start resorts. We do not need fancy amenities or luxury. That said this is our opinion of the place. This place has a great location right on the lake. It's a quiet neighborhood on a cul de sac. 20 min. to stores and shopping. A great place to relax with the family. However, the property is in need of maintence and a deep cleaning. A few hours with a weedwacker and pressure washer would go a long way to improving the place. The owner says the water is drinkable but the dead fish smell convinced us to use bottled water. There is an old well on the property that I hope wasn't the source of our water because it had lots of decaying pine needles in the bottom. We had to scrub all the dishes and pans we used before useing them. It looked like they were put away without being washed. If someone is cleaning the place you can't really tell. We scrubbed the brown scum off the shower, washed the black grime off the doors around the knobs, and washed down everything in the kitchen. The outside of the place looks like it's just been neglected. Moss is growing on the roof, there are two big hole in some wafer board that encloses the underneath of the house. To me, it looks like racoons have gotten in there. The trash barrels were raided one night. What look like they may have been flower gardens, at one time, are overgrown. There is a huge dead pine tree next to the house that will fall someday. I hope when we aren't there. The gas grill was filthyand in need of repair or replacement. If you don't mind these things this is a great place to relax at a very reasonable price. We enjoyed the kayak and peddle boat. Had fun during our stay and hope the owner will address some of these things before next year.
Enjoyed the quiet. Close to everything we wanted to do. Very relaxing.
My wife and I spent 5 days paddling Moose Pond and enjoy every minute. We were able to catch some pretty nice large and small mouth bass... The cabin was super comfortable and set in a great location.
We enjoyed drinking coffee on the deck in the outdoor rocking chairs (super comfy). The cottage had a loft with a king bed with access by a ladder which would be fun for young/athletic adults. We stayed on the first floor, which had a queen bedroom and another with twin bunkbeds. The shower had good water pressure. The only issue we had was the smell of the water in the cottage, which seemed to have a bit of sulfur in it. I would recommend bringing bottled water, though there is a Brita for guest use. The pond has a lot of vegetation in it so it's not the best for swimming but perfect for kayaking. There was a paddle boat for guests, but I didn't use it since I spent most of my time in my kayak (my happy place). I had hoped to hear loons but we didn't see or hear any, which was a bit of a disappointment. There were ducks and other birds. We ventured into Bridgton one day when it rained and enjoyed poking around at Reny's, a Maine family owned dept. store. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Twin Yokes.
Overall, one of the best vacations for my family. We had some hiccups but the owner was very understanding and accommodating. The owner responded very quickly and handled the issues professionally. The house has a great beach on the pond for the kids and the boat traffic was minimal even on the weekend. Felt perfectly safe letting my 9 and 7 year old swim around while grilling on the deck. The fishing was outstanding and consistent! Everyone caught a fish on this trip. I would suggest getting the rugs cleaned and adding covers to the living room furniture. Otherwise, would definitely go back next summer if the owners would have us again. :)
Nice clean and relaxing beach side cabin.
This cabin was perfect for our family of 4. Nice beachfront with firepit and deck overlooking Moose Pond. The Cabin had everything you need even for rainy days. We swam, used the 2 person kayak and explored the area and white mountains. The owner, Deane, was extremely responsive to all inquiries and made us feel right at home.
The was fantastic with communication. Everything was well stocked with all the amenities. We enjoyed our stay.
The house was perfect from the moment we walked onto the property. We wanted a house to getaway and this house checked off all our wants. Having young children, the house was extremely accommodating for our family. It was the little touches that helped so much. From the laundry basket to the high chair, to the beach chairs and baby gates. Not only was it less stuff we had to pack but it helped having these extra amenities at the house. I even loved having the extra hooks hanging from the doors. I feel like they thought of everything for a family with children. My daughter and I loved going out on the kayaks everyday. And she loved the watermelon raft! Oh and the favorite part my kids loved was feeding the ducks everyday. Overall, we absolutely loved loved our stay. Peace and quiet was just what we needed. Deane, you have a wonderful property and look forward to coming back next year.
Our getaway here was wonderful! The place was in a perfect location. We had an awesome time kayaking on the pond, playing games, and cooking out. Very responsive host and easy to understand instructions on everything.
