I choose this house because the description made us feel like the house was very near the water, which would be perfect for our elderly aunt. Later, I saw other reviews telling the truth. However the dock is across the street and 130 yards away. Twice we saw the owner peeking over the fence at us and not speaking to us. Overall, the house was fine, the location of the river is left out of the description.
Love fishing on the dock right in front of the dam. There are lots of fish there. Dock could needs a little upgrade but overall the best in the area. The house is very cute and clean
We had an exceptionally awesome time at this waterfront (100 yards) property with wonderful shaded patio and grill and very spacious small house. Lots of amenities and very well kept. Officer next door , so very safe. I brought my Hobie Kayak and fished all day. Never had a lane all to myself basically. Wonderful hosts and friendly management. Will definitely be coming back.
House was good but there was a problem with Wifi network, no soap or shampoo was there and hot water problem not satisfied what we paid not worth it. location was also not good
This was my first trip to Camp Wood and it turned out to be an amazing place. Nueces River is truly as clear and pristine as the photos look. We actually went snorkeling in it! This had to be the best body of water in Texas. On top of that, the place is very comfortable and the owner Doug (who lives next door) is super helpful and friendly. We will be back
House was fantastic - amenities were great. Only misleading part is picture online gives the impression that the house is right off the river - which it is not. The river is off his property and there is good river access - but you do have to walk down to the river a bit. Also - the river is not as clear after a major rain. But even after major rain if you go up the river in the kayaks and John boat - you will find some clear water near the mini rapids. One other thing - there are no real great close eating or shopping places, as Uvalde is 30 miles away. The closest town really only had a dollar general with spiked prices. So, recommend to bring your food with you on this trip and plan on eating at the house the whole time. House has a wonderful front yard with great BBQ setup and even night lights. Overall - great place to come to do some river exploring and family relax time at the house.
We loved our stay at this property. It was clean and quiet and exactly as advertised. The owners provided an abundance of linens and blankets. The air conditioning units worked perfectly. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could need. The private dock was great and it was so wonderful the owners provide kayaks and a boat to explore with. The front yard is spacious with a comfortable patio and bench swing, even the neighbor's sweet little puppies came to entertain my children. My children absolutely loved this trip, and we did too.
My husband and I stayed along with our 6 teenagers. The house and property was beautiful and well stocked both inside and out. The water was just a short walk front of home and the lake did not disappoint! As we nervously passed dried up rivers/creeks on the way there, we were relieved to see a beautiful lake upon arrival. The home was comfortable except for one of the guest rooms which stayed very warm for some reason. The master has its own air conditioning and the rest of the house was perfect. From what we saw, Camp Wood is extremely small and this was probably the prettiest place to stay in the whole town. Pack lots of groceries bc there is not much as far as restaurants or stores within 30 minutes. The outdoor patio and cook area was a perfect setting for evening cookouts and the kids loved kayacking, jumping off rock, and floating in the beautiful clear water. LOVE, LOVE,LOVED it!
Love the location, the privacy, access to 3 kayaks, plenty of chairs etc. our favorite watering hole in Texas and still fantastic even in this drought. House has everything you need except bath soap which we always forget.
We love this place. We bring 4 adults, 4 teenagers, and 2 children every year. There's something for everyone to do. The kids will take off fishing/swimming/cliff jumping/kayaking/snorkeling without concern. There are no motorized watercraft allowed in this area and it is very close to the dam which keeps the water level relatively constant even with drought. There is very little traffic off the dock area and further downstream. If you go up by the dam/bridge this is a public/party area and is very busy especially during the holidays but it does not interfere with where this property is located. Neighbors are quiet and to themselves. One works for the Sheriff's department, one is elderly, and across the street is your property manager. This really is a spot for relaxed fun. Don't come here if you're interested in a big party or funny business. We love the front yard. HUGE trees with lots of shade cover during the day so we play cornhole, BBQ, and bring other outdoor games to play when we are done with the water or need a break. House is very cold with great WiFi even though our phone signal sucks here. Bring all the food you need/want. There's not anywhere good to shop close by. You can get ice from the bait shop that's close. This is an older home but it is well-kept. Every year we notice improvements to the property so they really do put money back into the home which is nice to see. A misconception about the photos is that the house is not ON the water. The house faces the water with a private drive to the private dock. We actually love this because we can drive down and drop off our own kayaks and tubes and leave our trailer. You can see from the house all the way down and it is PRIVATE so no one else uses the dock or the driveway. This is truly a great getaway you don't want to leave. Highly recommend.
Overall great experience, the house was very clean and well put together. The owner George was very responsive and helpful when we called to ask questions about the house prior to arrival. The front yard is beautiful and Perfect walking distance to lake.
