Red River, New Mexico
The town of Red River is located in the middle of the Carson National Forest with hiking trails leading, among other places, up to Wheeler Peak, the highest point in New Mexico. The Red River Ski Area offers snow skiing and snowboarding beginning on the Thanksgiving holidays and continuing through Spring Break. Even when the natural snow is not as plentiful, the Red River Ski Area has the best snow-making in the state of New Mexico. Red River is just a fun town and is great for families. The town has wonderful shopping and galleries, nice restaurants, and even places to two-step.
The Fishin’ Hole is nestled in the Valley of the Pines just 3 miles outside of Red River. This quaint, three bedrooms, two bath cabin sleeps 8, has a full-size kitchen, wood-burning fireplace and washer and dryer. Two bedrooms each with queen beds are on the first floor, while the upstairs has another queen bed and a double in separate areas. The best “room”, however, is the new deck out back that overlooks the Red River that flows just 20 feet from the back door. The sound of the river is soothing to the soul, and the excellent fishing will provide the freshest, rainbow trout dinner around! The river is stocked in the summer months, and this location on the river is ideal for a good catch! Fishing not your thing Art lovers will enjoy the numerous art galleries in both Red River and Taos, just 40 minutes away. Music lovers will find plenty of venues, hikers plenty of trails, and horse lovers trails to ride. Shoppers can park at one end of the town and stroll through the many, cute shops, stopping for a bite to eat at any corner. In the center of town is the Red River Community House, built in 1940. For generations, vacationers have returned to this spot for traditions all ages have loved, such as line-dancing, two stepping, guided hikes, boat-building for kids, movies on the lawn, and, best of all, endless egg tosses for all on the 4th of July.
Throughout the year you will have great fun watching the torchlight parade during ski season, enjoy Mardi Gras in the Mountains during February, the Fine Art and Wine Festival in June, the 4th of July Parade, the Hot Chili Days, Cool Mountain Nights celebration in August, Aspencade Arts & Crafts Festival in September, and Oktoberfest in October.
This cozy cabin is a little bit of heaven located high in the Rocky Mountains. It’s sure to bring joy to all ages. If you want to venture beyond Red River, Angel Fire, with a beautiful, 18-hole golf course, is about an hour away in Taos and 2 hours from Santa Fe, with its shopping, art galleries and restaurants. Come refresh you soul at the Fishin’ Hole!
loved the location , back porch was where we spent our time . House had everything you need. Tv is very limited. We plan on a return trip, granddaughter loved being able to play in river all day, and then to have the great loft space, it has a sitting area, she loved having her own space.
Was a great time. Very nice cabin. Able to make anything food wise we wanted, fire in fireplace, river is very pretty. Would do it again
Stay was fine. Kitchen, a sharp knife would have been nice, simply sharpen what is there. Know our dish washing quality, question previous renters. Enjoyed having a fire, the quality of the fire wood left a little to be desired
This is a Beautiful, Tranquil, and Peaceful property. You will not want to go home from this Beautiful home. I am already returning next year as well.
The perfect mountain cabin with everything we needed for the week. Loved the back porch with the Red River just a few steps away, so quiet and relaxing! Van & Rita Hughes
Close to the river lots of shade plenty of Room to park very friendly neighbors
Really enjoyed the house on the creek. Would highly recommend it again.
House was clean and easy to 4 wheel drive trails and to towns. The host was very nice and helpful. Will definitely come back. Awesome place to bring your family
Place is beautiful & peaceful, we had a great family vacation. Will stay there again
Pros: beautiful spot with great river views, can ride utvs into town, well stocked kitchen Cons: floor decking throughout is loose, squeaky and needs to be renailed. If you get up at night the whole house will know about it. Carpet is stained and dirty as is one of the couches. I suspect it hasnt been vaccumed in several weeks or ever deep cleaned. Obvious areas were wiped off, some surfaces were covered in dust and hair (toilet tank lids). Lights didnt work in kitchen vent hood, over the kitchen sink, and several bulbs were out in dining room and on back porch. Could be a great place if the owner would do some maintenace and hire a cleaning lady to really clean.
Beautiful area with a river running behind the house. Lots of other houses around the cabin. Cabin was basic and rustic--no dishwasher or garbage disposal. Beds and pillows are not new. Pets are allowed so cleanliness is affected. The back porch is the best spot with the sound of the rushing water!
Beautiful cabin along river great place to stay we will return again soon!
Amazing experience
Going back this summer, excellent location.
The cabin is nestled in a beautiful valley and just a short distance from Red River. The spacious cabin is perfect and our family of 7 and two pets were very comfortable. The sound of the River just 15 feet away was wonderful. The hosts are very friendly and quick to answer questions. Highly Recommend.
This cabin was in a beautiful area. The river is right out the back door.
My wife and I had a great stay! Loved it. Very close to River! Will definitely be back!
Not secluded but not in town. Nice access to the river and excellent back porch to relax on while listening to the rushing stream. We do wish it had been more separated from other cabins. but we were very satisfied with the property and amenities. We did have a great time.
Property exceeded out expectations. Cabin was sufficient for our needs. We could have lived on the back deck it was so pleasant.
We had a great time. Very nice cabin on the banks of the Red River. Couldn’t ask for more. The owner lives next door and was very responsive to any issues that arose. Would definitely come back to this cabin. Thanks!
Beautifully weather & private porch, right on the Red River. Loved our time. Perfect for some fly fishing . Wonderful host!
We have rented many cabins over the years and this one was, by far, the best one. The river is running behind the back of the cabin about 15 feet from the very large, comfortable porch. The cabin itself is beautiful, well maintained and clean. The owner has stocked the cabin with games and books to enjoy. The breeze coming through the windows was amazing and the sound of the rushing river was peaceful and can be heard from one of the downstairs bedrooms. We enjoyed our own cooked dinner on the gas grill, the kitchen stove and clean dishes. This cabin is only about 10 minutes or less from the heart of Red River. The owner was very friendly and made himself readily available if we needed. If you want a great location, quiet and private, this is a perfect spot. We are already planning our next vacation in the cabin.
This was such a GREAT trip because the location of our stay was PERFECT. This cabin sits 30 feet from the Red River. We sat on the back porch and listened to the river run while the boys fished. There's an upper balcony as well that over-looks the river from a higher vantage point - and my daughter loved the upstairs bedroom/loft area. We started each day with a fire in the beautiful stone fireplace and ended the day star-gazing from the front porch. The owner (nicest guy you'll ever meet) was literally right next door and delivered firewood and any other requests we had within minutes. This location is about 7-10 minutes from Mainstreet in Red River - close enough to all the action, but far enough for some peaceful solitude when needed. It was so hard to leave this little piece of heaven! Going back is not even a question. We will definitely be Fishin' Hole regulars. We loved this place!!!
The location was perfect! Personally, cleanliness is #1 for us. The place was filthy. Dried toothpaste and soap on bathroom sink, dirty tub and toilets. I had to clean before we could use them. The shower curtain was about two feet too long and scrunched up in the tub. The kitchen drawers had rusty utensils, completely disorganized, no can opener. We found dirty socks under both downstairs beds, and a few candy wrappers. Nothing had been dusted. Unbelievable! The tv had little person fingerprint smears. Disgusting! We paid a pet deposit. There was so much poop at the side of the house when we arrived. I cleaned up ALL the poop! Unacceptable!! The grass was 12-18 inches high. Nothing had been weed rated. I came home with chiggers bites all over my feet, ankles, and legs. We spent way too much money for a week long stay, to have to clean. Additionally, morally speaking, it would have been nice to have been told about the wildfires. There were very few activities that could be enjoyed. ***we pay a cleaning fee, pet fee, and $399.00 service fee. For what?? The place is in an excellent location. The river is beautiful!
Great location and view. We were impressed from the moment we walked in. The river is literally a few steps away yet it’s shallow and safe for children. We walked around in it together and caught a few fish. The sound, the view and the clean smell of pine make the experience. We’ll be back.
