Barryton, Michigan
The Card's Nest rental cabin is nestled in the woods located on Gorrel lake. Gorrel lake provides a very nice, private setting. There are only 3 dwellings located on the entire lake. The property is adjacent to Merrill Lake County Park, which provides a place for the children to play, including a playground and swimming beaches on two lakes within walking distance. Located near the Pier Marquette snowmobile trail, The Card's Nest offers something for every season. Nature abounds in the surrounding woods, and is great for spotting birds, animals, and just enjoying nature.
We provide a fully furnished cabin, you need only bring your personal items and towels. A rowboat, two kayaks, and a paddle boat are provided. These can be launched from our small private sandy area, or tied to the dock during your stay.
The kitchen area has cast iron sink, range, and refrigerator. We also provide a 'beer and bait' refrigerator in the downstairs entranceway. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, pots, pans, utensils, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and more.
Bedroom 1 downstairs has a double bed, rustic pine furniture (locally crafted) and a beautiful view of the lake. Bedroom 2 has a double bed. Bedroom 3 provides a double bed and twin bunk beds. There are two double sized futons in family room.
Outdoor area provides a large deck overlooking the lake. There is a charcoal grill, as well as a fire pit with cooking grates. Build in benches and a picnic table provide seating around the deck and firepit area. There is a balcony off the upper floor that offers beautiful views of the lake and woods.
While this is a remote setting, basic needs can be met in Barryton, less than 10 minutes away, and a larger town is only 15 minutes away.
Our weekly rentals run from Sunday to Sunday.

Wonderful again
I liked how the property was tucked away on the side of a campground. Everything was great about the cabin, except when we came in, whoever stayed there previous to us left the futon with dirt and gross stains on it. I understand this may not be in the scope of the cleaning crew. We improvised and used a bed cover for it.
property was very nice everything we could of wanted except cleaning service was terrible nobody cleaned grills for us nor did they clean out the fire pit inside kitchen was filty mouse terds left counters were not cleaned we even had to kill the mouse we cleaned more than the cleaners the place is now mouse free and very clean for the next people
Jay was really nice had just hired a new cleaning company and they did a bad job we loved the property very nice outside but be careful when you swing we all had leaches when we got out never went swimming again while we were there but there’s plenty of boats to play with and Jay said he would make it up for the bad clean
It's a great little property tucked in a very quiet corner. If you're looking to unplug and get off the grid for a few days, this is the place.
This was our second time staying at the Card’s nest, and it was just like we remembered it! It’s such a peaceful and beautiful place. We love it, and can’t wait to go back!
Supper cute cottage in beautiful setting. Our group of 11 made use of all the boats and the swimming beach next door. Cottage was well stocked with everything we needed to prepare meals for a large group. Enjoyed fishing, nature walks in the woods and beautiful star filled nights around the fire pit. Perfect place to unplug and unwind! Liked the camp ground setting along with the private lakefront and spacious multi-level yard. Entering and exiting through the camp ground is most convenient. Stop and buy your day use pass when you arrive. I was confused on that point. Watching the local beaver was an extra treat.
I agree with the owner- the easiest way to get to the cabin is thru the campground. It’s nice that the campers closest to this property are long term rentals- we barely knew they were there. We took advantage of the nice beaches at the campground. The one on Merrill Lake is the largest- very nice, has sandy bottoms. We enjoyed fishing, kayaking and the outdoor areas. For the price, I thought it was dirty. My wife would not have found it acceptable.
Perfect place for a getaway vacation!
I took two granddaugthers and my wife and we had alot of fun
My kids were wanting to be outside and on the lake and this was a great location for that. My teenagers had a blast! We all appreciated the attention given to the outdoor areas. We ate outside for almost every meal. The kids spent almost all of the trip on the lake, had success fishing and enjoyed the hammock!
We were trying to seek out a rustic cabin on a lake. While the Cards Nest is just that, we were unaware that the cabin was part of a camp ground. The pictures of the property conveniently leave out that part. I quickly noticed that all of the pictures only show one side of the property; the lakeside. When we communicated with the owner, we specifically asked about the privacy of the lot and what the surroundings were like. We were told the only neighbor is a PARK. It was not a park; it was a campground full of people. I felt like this was intentionally miscommunicated. The lake side of the cabin feels private due to a privacy fence, but you can't really sprawl out in that area because it's full of tables and benches, plus it's on a hill. The lake fishing is not good. You would think it would be full of big bass but it is not. All of the fish are small and there are not many. The shower had no water pressure after a while. The cabin itself is cozy enough, but not the nicest place we've stayed. We make this same guys trip every summer. We probably won't come back here.
fishing is great (son 16). I totally enjoyed reading books in the hammock and being able to relax and see the water to watch him fish. NOT having internet is also kinda great. So much out door time and board games!!!
